If we were to have any chance of playoffs then we had to win all our games - draws or defeats were utterly meaningless to us - it really was a s**t or bust situation. Therefore why play 4-5-1 and have one of the divisions top goalscorers on the bench? I'd rather we went out all guns blazing and lost than playing defensively and scraping a draw. AP is more concerned about not losing than winning and it's that mentality that's sunk any promotion aspirations that we harboured.

...and then there is the infamous quote: 'I liken the situation to that of the Starship Enterprise. The shields are up and the Klingons are shooting at us every time they land a punch they sap our power.' What a muppet.

I love Lambert but sorry - there's absolutely no chance of an international call up - he may be able to do it a lg1 level but he would get absolutely nothing out of international defences. That said, I suspect he might be able to do a job for a lower premiership team especially as he takes a mean penalty - he wasn't out of his depth against pompey after all.

I can remember a friend of mine telling me that the KFC in Harlseden served him food through a perspex hatch......mind you that was a good 10 years ago so maybe it's changed.

Thank heavens the JPT journey is over this weekend

Would love to think that they will get another chance to play there at the end of this season -
Martin Samuel, Daily Mail on Coretese: "self serving" and a "buffoon"
Cabrone replied to trousers's topic in The Saints
I don't care what Samuel says, as far as I'm concerned NC saved this club by getting his rich friend to buy us and then went on to persuade him to give us sufficient funds to hire a decent manager and rebuild our team with some good players. We haven't had as good a season as this since arguably the 80s and it's basically down to NC. This ambitious guy is a total breath of fresh air as far as I'm concerned. Long may it continue. Now just enjoy it and stop obsessing over what some irrelevant hack spouts off. Wembley is what you need to focus on. -
Money talks in this game and if the right offer came in then he'd be sold. However I think a winning bid would have to be pretty big (£4M+) and who of all the clubs that might be interested has that kind of cash?

Great win today but playoffs are a fanciful idea now I think. Whilst it's still mathematically possible then of course we should go for it but I'd say it's something like a 25-1 shot now as we need at least 2 teams to implode and us to win everything. Looking at our fixtures I can see definite banana skins at Bristol Rovers and Gillingham but that said, we are definitely capable of winning the lot if we have the will to do it. Whatever the final outcome we should attempt to knock everyone over and harden up for 2010-11. I'd also like to praise Ricky Lambert - what an awesome goal machine the guy is. Without his enormous goal power we wouldn't even be talking about the playoffs and we must make sure we have him fit and ready to start in our team next season, the guy is absolutely key to our chances IMO.

No, too much to do and too few games to do it in. We just need to pick up as many points as possible and keep on developing the ruthless streak we will need next season for a top 2 place.
-
That would give the new stadium a capacity of around 300k. You could fit the whole population of Southampton in one end and most of the population of Pompey at the other. Now that's what I would call a derby.

I hope Leeds go in at half time 3-0 up. Then we score 4 in the 2nd half.
-
Seabourne just stands his ground, nothing wrong with that - it's what I expect a CH to do. TBH if we had been awarded a penalty like this then I'd have considered it a very lucky break for us. Unfortunately the rub of the green was against us this time but we've had our fair share of rubbish decisions too (some absolute Uriah Rennie shockers at SMS spring to mind).
-
Yes, we didn't get the rub of the green on that one as it looks like Seabourne just stands his ground. That said refs are only human and you are always going to get dodgy refereeing decisions - both for and against - that's just the nature of the game. No excuses - we lost - if we had played at 100% the pen would have been an irrelevance.
-
Not acceptable to be turned over by another team that cost tuppence. Playoffs are over and if we don't learn how to get ruthless then we are going to be spending a lot more time in this league than we'd like. Lallana needs some finishing practice too.

Just read that Leeds have signed [sarcasm]my favourite[/sarcasm] player Dickov till the end of the season. Another reason (if I needed another one) to kick their sorry asses when they come to SMS.
-
Being as the players know that they have to win to have any chance of playoffs then I'll go for 3-0 or 3-1 to us. Each game from now on in is a cup final and we've got the bit between our teeth. I hope we smash them.
-
Superb stuff. Hopefully after taking a good pummelling Huddersfield will now have a wobble and let us in. We must follow this up and get 3 points at Tranmere now. Every game is a cup game from now on.
-
Being as Huddersfield are still in the thick of the playoffs they will be well pleased to get out of SMS with a point so I predict that the team bus will be parked infront of their goal. Although our playoff hopes are all but extinguished this season we must use this season's fixtures to develop a killer mentality for next season. 3-1 to us.
-
On Tuesday we have a golden opportunity to try and hammer Huddersfield as hard as possible, maybe causing them to wobble for a couple of games. Might be enough to give us a chink of light but a very long shot. Trouble is even if we did that we'd still need at least one of the other teams to have a wobble too and at the moment they are all doing really well. I had a go at predicting the fixtures yesterday and I think Saints can only afford to drop 2-3 points till the end of the season. Can't see it whichever way I look at it but if we did manage to pull off a miracle then we'd be red hot favourites to win the playoffs.
-
Great score and great result. Now we just need to keep on winning to prepare for next season. It's a shame it's probably too late for playoffs now. Just looked at the Swindon\Huddersfield\Millwall games and I think we could only afford to drop 2 points till the end of the season (funnily enough we have enough about us to win every single one of those games IMO but I wouldn't put any money down on it).
-
Yes, I think us and Charlton have drawn more than anyone in lge 1. I think it's because AP has been more interested in not losing rather than trying to win but that's just my view based on what I've seen. Fair comments by Claridge I thought, AP should be given more time but he has to step up a gear now.
-
Poor result and by the sounds of it a very poor performance. Playoffs or no playoffs we have got to get a darn sight more ruthless and learn how to knock over the Wycombe's of this world. The rest of this season needs to be treated as a dress rehearsal for next i.e. use these games to develop a hard nosed winning mentality. Consistently taking out the mediocre teams is an absolute pre-requisite for promotion - after all 3 points is 3 points whether it be against Norwich or Wycombe.
-
If the players approach it with the right mental attitude and AP sticks with the same team then we should win it. I think the players know that every game is a cup final now. Hopefully Tranmere and MK Dons will do us a favour too.
-
Having really thought we'd blown the playoffs after the Exeter game I'm not so sure now. I thought that by now the others would be out of sight yet after that brilliant result yesterday we are still just about within striking distance. The 2 teams that I believe we really need to overhaul are Huddersfield and Millwall (maybe also Swindon). From what I've seen I think we will overhaul MK Dons, Walsall, Bristol Rovers and Brentford. Huddersfield's next 3 games are Tranmere (a), Leeds (h) and Saints (a). Being as Huddersfield are distinctly average on the road I can see them getting 2 draws and losing to us. That would put them on 56 points and 34 games. Millwall have to play MK Dons (a), Hartlepool (h) and Walsall (a). I reckon they could get 4/5 points which would put them on 56/57 points and 34 games. If we can get 3 straight wins against Wycombe(a), Walsall (h) and Huddersfield (h) we'd be on 46 points and have 2 games in hand. Win those and we'd be within 4/5 points of Huddersfield\Millwall - breathing down their necks. Maybe the playoffs aren't as far away as I think?
-
Superb result and performance by the sounds of it. AP finally plays an attacking team away from home and takes the 3 points. Shame it's taken this long for the penny to drop. If we turn up for the rest of our games with an offensive team capable of taking it to the opposition then we'll win most of our remaining games.......and who knows, maybe the playoffs might still feature in this season.
