  1. Took us down 2 divisions, has any other chairman managed that? For the 2nd relegation all he had to do was keep the existing manager - and he screwed that up. If we are being dispassionate then you have to say that we had a very favourable set of fixtures on the cup run - apart from Spurs it was a string of emminently winnable games. We lucked out that year. Sorry - joint worst chairman in our history along with Askham.
  2. Really enjoyed the match although it would have been nice to have scored from open play, still 3 points is 3 points and confidence levels should be on the up. Players that I noticed were Harding: Another rock solid performance. Fonte: A Coke player in a league 1 team. My MoM. Schneiderlin: Personally I don't get the hero worship for this guy but he did the 'engine room' stuff very well today. Lallana: Skillful and tricky. Always good to watch. Barnard: Worked his tail off. Pure determination. Chamberlain: Not on for too long but looked a real livewire. Injected energy on the right side as soon as he came on. I'd drop Puncheon for Holmes as I just don't think he's giving enough decent service (although credit where it's due he did rob the B'nmouth right back to cross in and set up the 2nd penalty). Lambo needs plenty of quality crosses to get up and running and Holmes is the man to supply them. Finally Lambo, the guy looks shot of confidence although he did take the penalties brilliantly. One moment that stayed with me was at the start of the 2nd half when he was in a decent shooting position but tried to tee it up and was robbed of the ball. Last season he would have taken a swing at it and probably drawn a save or scored. He's the KEY man and needs a goal from open play - BADLY. If we can get him scoring we'll rapidly rise up the table - until that time we'll be spluttering along.
  3. I never really liked Ian Wright, always thought he was a bit of a chav BUT if fans give a player a load of stick then they should be prepared to take some back. Can't stand hypocritical whinging supporters.
  4. Wow, great signing. Surprised we got him as I thought he was a decent Coke level player when he played for us last time. Hope he gets in the team ASAP.
  5. I didn't understand why we had to go waltzing off to Switzerland to play a few teams that we were never going to ever play competitively and weren't going to give us anything like the experience that we needed for lge 1. It all smacked of a jolly and the start that we've had would enforce this view. We should have lined up a string of blue square prem, league 2 and coke teams to get us battle hardened and ready for another season in the english leagues. Instead of bigging ourselves up in Switzerland we should have stayed in SE England and got a much better pre season.
  6. We're all really disappointed with last night's draw but I think it's very harsh to hammer NA after only 4 games. You have to give him the season and see what he can do. For me the biggest difference between this season and last was the form of Ricky Lambert. An on form Lambert would have taken us to the top of this league and it's not NA's fault that he's in a slump. Now I don't know why he's off colour but I do think that if there is anyone who can get his head right its NA. Give the manager a break - he's only had a handful of games to change a shattered team and his record so far is decent. What is more the team appear to be finally waking up again. 'No point in crying over spilt milk' as the saying goes. AP is gone, get over it.
  7. Being as this crazy club always goes and does the opposite to what I predict I'm going for 2-1 to Yeovil. COYS.
  8. LOL - this club is mental. I give up predicting how we're going to do. Delighted with the 3 points and fingers, toes, arms and legs crossed the team can push on from here. They ARE good enough to get top 2 if they apply themselves.
  9. I'd have Holmes in next game. With our forwards not able to buy a goal at the moment we must give them as much decent service as possible and Holmes is the best crosser we have. He might just be able to provide the service which kickstarts Ricky back into life.
  10. From the comments on here: Sounds like at least some parts of the team are starting to fire whereas in the previous weeks none of it was working. That's a big positive. Hammond and Puncheon need to take a look at themselves, start digging in and producing the goods. However by far the most important message coming from yesterday is that NA is already getting to grips with what he has and how to make it tick again. The subs sounded intelligent and the half time talk must have hit the spot. Whilst the players are important the manager is always the key. Fingers crossed we have landed a good'un in NA. I hope so.
  11. Still far too many games to go to rule out promotion. If NA can get a win out of these players and get their confidence up then they are good enough to go on a run. We are still in a much better points position than we were last season so plenty of opportunity yet. Top 2 is looking quite difficult though.
  12. That's not an excuse though, the players should be professional enough to get over it and roll their sleeves up for this season. Their response has been pathetic. As far as the winger issue, yes I think it has been detrimental but not enough to explain 4 straight losses and next to no goals. No, the players need to take a lot of the blame for this and AP needs to take a fair chunk of blame for a powder puff pre season that reeked of arrogance and complacency. We can still turn this around, 1 win could spark us back into life and I sincerely wish NA the best of luck. Either he'll get this shower of prima donnas licked into shape or we could see a lot of departures in the coming months.
  13. I'd imagine a week ago MK would have been thinking 'finally - after all the defeats they are ready for the taking'. Now they are probably thinking 'New manager - oh s**t'. No excuses - we have the players. 3 points please.
  14. I didn't want AP to go because I think he could have achieved top 2 but that's history now and I've warmed to NA. Standing up for Scunny's compo was an honourable thing to do + he has a proven track record in this division playing decent football. Fingers crossed he can kick start this team back into life in the next 2-3 games and go on to have a serious tilt at top 2.
  15. Confidence. The only difference between the team that spanked Rovers 4-0 away and lost 2-0 to Rochdale at home is confidence. We have the players - we just need to get the performances out of them.
  16. I'll look forward to Adkins if he does finally turn up. He has a track record of getting out of this league with scant resources and comes across as a decent, intelligent and honorable guy. I really like the sound of him. To those of you who question whether he is prem material may I remind you that we are in league 1 and will never get to the prem if we don't get out of league 1. One step at at time please folks. The trouble is we have already messed up our first 5 games and with confidence so low will probably need another 2-3 to get back up and running so even if he joined today we have a huge challenge to get top 2 now. I can't believe how much of a **** up we've made of this season so far.
  17. When I first hear of him I wasn't blown away but he's grown on me. Seems like a decent bloke and has a track record of league 1 promotion. I just hope we can land him now (as long as he stops talking in the 3rd person).
  18. If NA has not agreed because he thinks that Scunny need to be better compensated then he sounds like a principled guy. Just a shame that we might not be getting him. If the shoe was on the other foot and he was our manager refusing to go to say Man Unt because they didn't want to pay proper compensation then we'd love him for it. Good on you NA, I just hope NC learns from this experience.
  19. If NA has not agreed because he thinks that Scunny need to be better compensated then he sounds like a principled guy. Shame we might not be getting him. 20. If it's their job on the line then it's perfectly understandable that they'd want to control the football side of things. How would you like to work in a structure where your work colleague could meddle with your job and get you the sack whilst he remained in place? No manager worth his salt would agree to this.
  21. Don't agree with this power structure and if this is how NC is going to set things up then it will lead to instability. Why should Reed have the same authority as the manager when it's the manager's neck on the chopping block if it goes badly? If the manager is the one that pays the price for failure then the manager must be given total authority to manage - Reed gets to interfere and meddle but doesn't get the sack if things turn out bad? This would indicate to me that the manager has LESS status than Reed and that is daft, don't blame AP for leaving if he wasn't happy with this! An independent minded good manager is pivotal for success but I struggle to see any decent manager accepting this structure. We'd end up with yes men all the time.
  22. If that is true then no stability will ever be achieved. The manager MUST have authority over his no.2 - any other arrangement will not work. If NC were to pull that elusive rabbit out of the hat and get a top manager like MoN (not saying it's likely - just an IF) then I'd be fairly sure that the new manager would let NC know in no uncertain terms just how the power structure would work. That all said I can't believe that NC wouldn't know this already and that's why I don't believe this piece of gossip in the first place.
  23. MoN is a maverick in the Clough mould and as such I could see him, like Clough, doing the unexpected and joining us. The job at SMS has 'potential' written all over it - maybe MoN sees it as a tasty challenge??
  24. Good up and coming manager who seems to tick quite a few boxes. I'm warming to this one. I really like the fact that he has got Scunny of of lge 1 not once but twice. He obviously knows how to get promoted out of this league.

    Promotion?

Really, you couldn't have timed this any worse if you tried. Decent manager sacked just as the transfer door slams shut. There must be more to this than mets the eye - surely??? I thought AP would deliver top 2 - now it depends on how the new guy can adapt but he's already going to start with one hand tied behind his back and a disgruntled fan base. That said, Lambert did it at Norwich and there's still a long way to go but my expectations have now dropped down to playoffs. What a crazy mess.
