Not particularly surprised as this is Saints, we always seem to win when no-one expects it + I really fancied a result at their place. Huddersfield fans must be distraught as I'm sure they would have pinned their hopes to a Saints loss. Now they must go there and hopefully a stung Brighton will beat them. Brilliant 3 points but we MUST follow it up now and get the job done. Would be typical Saints to beat Brighton and then lose to the likes of Walsall. Don't screw it up Saints!!!

At least we know what we need to do tomorrow - WIN. On another note, being as the Posh have now dropped out of top 2 but are all but guaranteed play offs they will have the next 3 weeks to conserve their players before those play offs. That makes it even more important to get top 2. I don't want a tired Saints facing a rejuvinated Posh team.

How about Andrew Davies? We all know how good he was at champ level and at 26 he's still got a lot left in the tank. Get him back to what he was last time he was here and he'd be a perfect partner for Fonte.

Being as we tend to do well in the big games I think we'll do OK on Sat. It's the 'easy 3 points' games against the lesser teams that make me nervous. I think we'll get at least a point and fingers crossed Hudders will lose. That would leave us needing 8 points from 4 games with 2 at home.

Forget about Brighton, let's just concentrate on our own performance. If Adam is back and we play to our full potential then I fancy at least a draw and quite possibly a win. It's just another 3 points up for grabs as far as I'm concerned.

Saints 1 V 0 Bristol Rovers, post match sighs of relief..

Never a dull moment following this team eh (we've just assured the playoffs BTW). -
For a long time this season I thought we were a bit glass jawed but finally we look like we mean business. Not sure about the scoreline but I predict another determined 3 point performance.
-
If we got 12 points Huddersfield would need to win 4 out of 5 + not lose in the 5th as our superior GD should act as an extra point. Looking at their remaining fixtures I don't see them getting 13 points so 12 should do it for us. That means winning all our home games + Plymouth (a).

Can't decide between Lallana and Fonte. Both have been immense for us this season and thoroughly deserve to play at a higher level.
-
Over the first 7 games of the season Brighton: Won 4, drew 2, lost 1. Saints: Won 1, drew 2, lost 4. We've been neck and neck ever since. The difference between us is that we had our usual poor start and they had a good one. We must work on pre season and get our heads in the right place from day 1.
-
I'd agree with that. Thought that they would have slipped up by now and we would have caught them but all credit to them, they have been consistently mowing down the opposition week in week out. Just a shame we had such a terrible start. If we'd have started winning from August rather than the end of September then we'd be vying with them for the title now. How many points have we stupidly squandered just by not being ready in time?? The club really needs to professionally prepare itself for next season.

Looks like we really have the bit between our teeth now so I could honestly see us winning every game. However, if we win our 3 home games (Rovers, Hartlepool and Walsall) and Plymouth away I think it would be enough. Even if Posh were to win every game they'd only be able to match us (with an inferior goal difference) and Hudders would have to win 4 out of 5 plus win\draw the 5th - too much for them IMO especially considering the places they have yet to play at. Really feeling that we have 1 foot in an auto spot now. Been following this club for 30 odd years and I've never seen us get promotion. Please don't blow it Saints!

What would you rather hand - 2 games in hand or 2 points?
Cabrone replied to Red and White Army's topic in The Saints
Three points would be par for the course IMO so it's got to be the 2 games in hand. Fingers crossed for 3 points against a recently wobbling Orient and a win\draw at the Spotland. -
People are saying that Huddersfield have a tough run in but do they? They have: Posh (h) - pretty ropey on the road. Charlton (a) - in mid table mediocrity with nothing to play for. MK Dons (a) - genuinely tough game. Daggers (h) - can only see 3 points from this one Brighton (a) - probably already up and with little left to play. Brentford (h) - mid table, little to play for. I'm not convinced that Huddersfield's run in is a difficult as many on here think so I'd favour a draw followed by a Posh win.

I loved BT when he was here but the club would have to look at the BT circa 2011, not the BT of 2001-2004. Good points: - Whilst he is 33 as long as he's looked after himself he could still have another 3-4 years left in him. That should be enough time to effectively use him in a promotion push back to the prem (assuming we got promoted this season). - He has a strong affinity for the club + a large amount of goodwill from the fans so I'd imagine he'd settle quickly. - I believe that if he could get back to form he'd be a formidable champ striker, maybe something along the lines of Steve Howard at Derby. 15+ goals wouldn't be out of the question IMO. Bad points: - Wages could be a big stumbling clock. - We already have a good striker in a similar mould i.e. Ricky. - How is his fitness? A 33 year old BT that is constantly breaking down would be no good. Overall I'd welcome him back as long as: i) We got promoted. ii) He accepted a 'realistic' wage. iii) The club didn't sign him over a decent younger pacy striker like CMS (who would be my no.1 target).
-
Looking at those fixtures I've got Huddersfield to get another 12 points so we'll need another 17 points off 9 games or 2 per game. Although we've also got a tough run I think we'll do it. If we could go on a run of straight I still haven't given up on top spot. Would need a big wobble from Brighton now though.

Sounded like a pulsating match and a great win. Love it when we have to win by digging deep, shows a degree of mental strength.

Hughes, Speedie, Groves, Lee, Grobelaar, Dixon, Hurst................. and any other old mercenary that came here to loot the place rather than play.
-
What would you rather have - 3 games in hand or 5 extra points?
Cabrone replied to kpturner's topic in The Saints
I'd rather have 3 games in hand............just. If we were at the bottom end of the table I'd plump for 5 points but being as we are trying to get promotion we should have high expectations of getting at least 6 points from 3 games. -

I slightly favour our position but only just. It's frustrating having to constantly play catch up though. -
I'd take that but my goodness Plymouth would be a real nerve jangler (I'm assuming we'd beat Walsall if we had to).
-
I also think 20 points should do it. Two points per game over the next 10 games should very doable if you have aspirations to get top 2. The relevant games on the final Saturday are Hudds v Brenford. P'Boro v Dag & Red. Saints v Walsall. I just hope we don't go into that final match having to rely on one of the others to cock up......
-
Unlike us they know how to consistently turn a narrow lead into 3 points, especially away from home. The difference is mental toughness IMO.
-
We've lucked out getting Charlton on a low so it's up to us to ram home the advantage. At least 7 points but every chance of bagging 9.
-
Their negativity is a worry. We all know what we're like when we're expected to win at a canter...............
