I wouldn't say that is the reason. It's much more to do with giving it a fair hearing - women's sport is too often shoved away. I'm glad it's getting the exposure it deserves. The increased exposure will lead to better quality as well, as resources improve so it's a win win.
-
If we are still in it come February then we are in the last 16! I'll take that and happily finish a bit lower. A european adventure will be fun.
-
I doubt it was more than a vocal minority who were saying it was a distraction, and a vocal minority on a board that itself represents a minority of saints fans probably isn't much to go by. I suspect most fans are happy just to go to the games, game by game and are thrilled come what may.

Though more important no away goals conceded.

Solid. Double that in the second half and we should be safely through bar a disaster.

Chris Perry on commentary on BT Sport!

I suppose given we have knock out as first game of the season as opposed to league, that must change the structure and intensity of the pre-season.

What even is that kit?

We will have to see about this poll, and what actually happens going forward. Some have already looked into the deeper numbers of this poll and notice some odd points in the demographic picked, which shouldn't be unexpected given how hard it is to pick for this kind of poll. Corbyn may do alright in Labour heartlands I guess, but will lose the kind of seats in England they need to win to get back into government. At present though, something does need to change as they simply will not be in again as long as Scotland remains SNP and they struggle in the South. (and as long the Tories dominate the South West at the expense of the Lib Dems). I have to say after observing the hustings, I do admire Kendall somewhat. She is talking her mind against the grain to some degree and with some substance. Burnham is not much except a northern accent. I guess Cooper is alright. But Corbyn had very little substance and very little ideas. I can see why what he is saying is very populist and nice to hear, but I'm not sure he is actually saying that much at all when you think about it. Plus the small problem that the parliamentary party don't seem to want to play ball if he gets elected. I do wonder whether we are going to have another split like in the 80s. On the welfare abstention. Such weakness and disarray from Labour, after running an election against welfare cuts and bashing the last government so much on welfare. In particular the disdain they reserved for the liberals who blocked the very items coming through now, and voted against them this week as well. These are policies which are much worse than anything to come from the coaliton, but Labour are happy to do nothing. What exactly are the Labour party for if not to oppose this kind of thing?

He definitely needed to win it in 3 to stand a chance against Djokovic who has a similarly tiring game to Murray - so it's very good for him he came through in 3 sets. Allows him to be fresh. Needs to serve the ridiculous way he did today against Djokovic as well.
-
Well, that was completely incredible from Federer. Murray didn't even play badly, he played very well - his first serve percentage so high and so on. But you just can't beat Federer when he plays like that, and I hope he goes on to beat Djokovic.

For now, that is the case. But as it spreads and quality of illegal streams improves there's a danger of a tragedy of the commons occurring.
-
Problem is of course if every cheats by watching sportsmania etc, there will be no streams at all. Someone has to pay for it. I appreciate the ever rising cost of sports subscription through 'legal' means.
-
Which one?! Jamie Murray looks in with a decent shot in the doubles as well!

I love how you are trying to be all equal and fair, but then refer to 'birds' and 'chicks' - well done. *Women* and *men*.
-
And I suppose you know a lot about being a 'proper player' then? Why is everyone so determined to **** all over this success. It's great news for them, above all expectations and I hope it contributes to the continuing development of the women's game in this country.
-
She should have perhaps, but that's why Williams wins so much. She is never down and never out. The whole 'plucky loser' line is predictable as it is boring. Give her a chance, and she will develop over the next few years into a top 20 player I reckon and there is no shame in being a solid professional.
-
Williams looked quite emotional and drained at the end. I really think she's had far too many easy matches recently and genuinely pushed to her limits there. Top win though, and I suppose that's why she's a champion because she nearly always finds the next gear. Venus vs. Serena match up in the next round will be interesting as Venus is on great form at the moment, and will know Serena's game inside out.

How a Billionaire Heiress Cracked the Premier League Boys Club

It's nice that we are succeeding after the misogynistic press she had to experience. Long may the success continue! -
How does the draw work? There's no chance we can get west ham or liverpool or something like that is there?
-
It was in a small reception of people! So no escape from him. Another person there pushed on similar lines! Though some were happy to just chat Gareth Bale...

Will post what I posted on the other forum here... Had the 'joy' of meeting Sepp Blatter a year or so ago. Every inch the politician and paraded himself as if he was a world leader. I asked him about Qatari workers rights and he was exceptionally dismissive, effectively saying there was no proof. On the issue of voting for the 2018/2022 world cup, he said that the corrupt individuals had been kicked off the executive. I asked him if this was the case, given that they were corrupt at the time of the vote, shouldn't there be a revote? He just tried to push that the issue is pretty much now closed and that they can move on. I also asked him, even if he is clean from the corruption, the fact that so much has been found under his watch, shouldn't he take some responsibility for that. Again, just flapped aside as if somehow he is in some bubble of purity. -

None of the societal stuff we just discussed applies to them, and they are universally of school age. But more importantly, society in no way treats them like an adult. It's a matter of consistency for me. The cut-off is somewhat arbitrary, but you have to base it off something. I used to be against votes at 16, even when I was 16, which is reasonably rare. But having seen how 16 year olds conducted themselves in the EU referendum plus a couple of other facts, I think it seems reasonable to lower the age. They are cognitively capable to consider the question, and society treats them as adults.
-
Of course you can, but at 16 you can also work and contribute in tax to the economy. Although given the recent compulsory education rise to 18, this is becoming less so. But being in education shouldn't be a block to having the vote. Obviously there is a certain arbitrary feel to all this in terms of cut-off. For me, given the way we currently treat 16 year olds as a society, I think they are just as capable of making a decision in the EU referendum as your average 19 year old.
