Us liberal hand-wringers keep to our principles! Yes, we personally wear poppies and support the good work that the RBL does... but why should that mean that everyone else has to conform? I believe in the right for everyone to have a different opinion and for everyone to be different, even where that opinion and outlook doesn't match my own.

Union money?! Come on now... you really think the money which funds the premiership is 'union money'. It's far more complex than that today. And as for the whole, is he a **** for not wearing a poppy debate... of course he isn't. I wear a poppy every year on the 11th of November, but why the hell should that mean that someone else is a **** for not wearing one?! What happened to choice? Perhaps this article provides a nice summary - http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/ruthdudleyedwards/100185697/lets-call-a-halt-to-poppy-fascism/ Jon Snow Interview - http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-11-10/brits-protest-poppy-pressure/4365180

Thankyou for replying to one third of my post.

I think the reason why they didn't broadcast the Jimmy Saville allegations is clear now after this current disaster. You have to have investigated thoroughly and know for 100%. It sounds like everyone suspected Jimmy Saville, but you need proof, not just suspicions. Remember, it wasn't just the BBC who failed to properly identify him for what he was. Those in the Murdoch press have made many many more mistakes down the years than the BBC, who I still trust over the likes of the Sun. And do you really think the likes of the Sun would have publicly investigated and laid itself out like the BBC is now. Part of the reason Entwhistle is going is because he was shown up in an interview with a BBC employee... and just look at the BBC news front page, or the panarama programme on the BBC and I could go on and on.
-
What a load of rubbish. And I see the Murdoch press really have it in for the BBC over this one. At least the BBC have had the integrity and honesty to own up to their mistakes publicly. I still maintain that the BBC's journalism is among the best and most trustworthy around, even after this one mistake. Just look at the way the BBC is reporting itself at the moment if you think they are biased.

Well, it's a better performance and it's points. Let's see if we can build on that. Our midfield is back to full strength, but I feel like our defence isn't good enough.

Even though the BBC has monumentally cocked up over this one story(though they never named anyone on Newsnight, so the names must have come from another source , I'd still believe anything they broadcast over the likes of what is written in the Sun and the Daily Mail. No organisation can be perfect, and if anything this mistake is a product of the witch hunt against the BBC over the past few weeks.
-
I don't see the point of banding around names before anything has even been stated. Judging by the amount of names flying around, they are probably all invented from the murky depths of the internet. And as for those getting into a political orgy over this, stop. Left wing, right wing has nothing to do with it. And whether it be Conservative, Labour, Lib Dem or whatever else... it is irrelevant and it doesn't make all people from that party a paedophile.

And get Ramirez and Cork back.

Where do you think we'd be if Pardew had stayed?
Saintandy666 replied to Islander's topic in The Saints
Probably in the premier league. We had a lot of resource behind us and Pardew is a good manager. Though saying that, there does appear to have been some major breakdown in trust so who knows. -
Oh yes. In a way, it's quite ironic...

That's a bit silly. You should vote based on what a candidate would actually do. And I think the US will be fine. It's Europe that we should be worrying about. If you look at proportion of world GDP over the past generation, it is Europe's which has been declining, not the US. The US has an extremely resilient and large economy and I think they will come through fine and balance well against China. The only hope for Europe, if they want to still be a world player, is further integration. Together, we'd be a force people might listen to. Apart, not so much. (The US is also busy redefining itself as a pacific nation, as opposed to an Atlantic nation due to our declining significance) On the election itself, Obama should win. I don't sense too much enthusiasm for Romney, even from his core base. And he can't even attack Obama on his health care reforms because he introduced an extremely similiar system as governor of Massachusetts A lot of the republican heavyweights seemed to think this election was a write off too. The field will be much stronger in 2016(I can't believe Rick Santorum was ever in contention) I expect perhaps with Jeb Bush and Mike Huckabee and so on running.

What absolute rubbish. The BBC is the best TV channel there is. Okay, there are some programmes I don't want to watch, but that is why it is national broadcaster. It caters to the needs of everyone. It is also almost certainly the least biased news provider there is. If you don't believe that, just look at its current coverage of the Saville scandal. They are scathing of themselves.

Makes perfect sense. The EU has kept peace in Europe for a long while after a time at which there was constant war. It isn't the Nobel Prize for Economics, so I don't see the controversy.
-
I hope so. Let's change to stripes and stay at that.
-
I think we're playing well too.
-
Can't fault Adkins after all he has done for us. The Premier League is hard and even if we get relegated which is a real possibility, I would like to see us keep him.
-
Our attack is without doubt premier league class. I think we are capable of scoring against pretty much any team in this league and that is good. However, our defence lacks.

Everton 3 - 1 Saints - Post Match Reaction
Saintandy666 replied to Saint_clark's topic in The Saints
Well, I knew we'd lose because Everton are a fantastic side. So not too bothered. The performance in the second half was better than the first where we were just outclassed. Gazzaniga looked excellent. On to the next one, and it's at home to a non top 8 side so hopefully better. -
Gazzaniga is looking good though. At fault for none of the goals and getting everything he should and more.
-
Well, at least we are getting the ball more now.
-
Our defence isn't good enough.
-
He predicted a win against Villa. I hope he is wrong, but I fear he right about the outcome. I do think we will get a goal though. It'll probably be 2-1 or 3-1.

I actually lol'd.

I do agree with you that a lot of degrees are utterly pointless/useless, and now that it is 9k a year, it's not only sad for the taxpayer, it's sad for the individuals involved. I don't really have the heart to tell people who have told me they are going to do a phototography degree at Farnham that they are never going to pay off their fees, and almost certainly won't get a job in photography. But at the same time, I think it is good that as many people go to uni as possible in degrees that stretch people. We need a well educated country to compete in the high-tech market of tomorrow. But at the same time, just as a Doctor can't fix leaking pipes, a plumber can't fix an unhealthy body. So, I think we need less stupid targets in this country, and more emphasis on practical, as well as academic routes because both are worthy routes to worthy careers and not everyone is suited to university. As for me I head off to Oxford on Sunday to study Human Sciences(http://www.ihs.ox.ac.uk/). Because it's a science course, I would be eligible for the accelerated medicine course. So the plan is I would try to get into that afterwards, but Medicine is extremely hard to get into and good grades aren't enough. That's what I hope to do anyways(unless this course inspires me to take a different route)... but either way an Oxford degree should stand me in good stead for something even if my plans do fail.
