  1. We can only hope.
  2. On the actual topic of the thread, I do not think I support a boycott. I think if all athletes do a symbol when they win, that will be a lot more powerful.
  3. I don't really see what this has to do with debate. It doesn't matter whether gay people have children or not. If it wasn't 'natural', it wouldn't exist. As for your question, obviously it's going to be very similar to other animals; kin selection etc. When I said people are different because of our intelligence, I was referring to memetics - so culture and so on and how ideas spread and much of that can be perhaps at first glance contrary to reproduction endgoals. I know you are taking the ****, but I'm finding this quite hard to describe in a few lines.
  4. That wasn't what I was saying at all. I was talking about birds, not humans, and humans are very different from birds because we have higher intelligence. Obviously, no one should be compelled to do anything. Edit: Just to get it straight, I was addressing the idea that reproduction is the only way of gene propagation as some people seem to have been suggesting.
  5. Quick note on evolution. Most evidence points that it is not species or group based, but instead gene based. As in each gene's 'aim' (and I say aim in a very loose way as it isn't a conscious one) is to multiply itself as much as possible. And there are plenty of ways to multiply your genome outside of reproduction - for example, it is very common in birds for many to stay behind for some time to help bring up relations in conjunction with their families and so hence multiplication of the genes they share with them. I think all those that are saying that reproduction is the only way should bear that in mind.
  6. There is plenty of research and it points to it being fundamentally biologically based, just skin colour. So yes, there is plenty of evidence to disprove you. As for the second part of your answer, it's frankly bizarre!
  7. It's normal and natural because it occurs everywhere down to natural, and so normal means.
  8. You are entitled to your own beliefs, but you aren't entitled to your own facts. You are wrong, and offensive on so many levels. Homosexuality exists in organisms just about everywhere that you look for it, and it is perfectly normal and natural.
  9. Keep it up. These are very informative Finished 3rd in the league last year... so definitely tough competition again. Turkey's league is 11th in the UEFA coefficient...
  10. China and the US are in different spheres of the world economy.
  11. If we want to stay competitive in the modern world, alongside the US and China and so on, we have to stay in the EU. This is just one more piece of evidence showing how vital it is to our economy.
  12. Very harsh to put Ramirez in the bad transfer category. Yes, he hasn't been a star player for us, and I understand with the price tag we might expect that. However, he certainly hasn't been bad and has been very good at times and good the rest of the time. Let's wait and see this season.
  13. Just putting an idea out here... what about an EU-wide nuclear weapons programme (or even shared with France)? When would we ever possibly want to use them if not in association with the rest of Europe?
  14. Thank you for your deletion of the vast majority of my post in favour of one small part of it. Next time, I won't even bother replying if when you answer my post you don't even address any of the points within it.
  15. No, I would say it has given people the evidence to finally have a meaningful evidence based debate, although I would add it seems you are choosing bluster and hyperbole over engaging with the findings of the report. Interestingly, the actual Liberal Democrat proposal of a cut in submarines from 4 to 2 and non-constant surveillance whereby it is cranked up and down in times of need is not examined in this report. I'm sure that would save a lot of money, but obviously money isn't the only key aspect here as we do need to maintain an effective armed forces which can protect this country from outside attack if needed. I've yet to be convinced of nuclear disarmament by the UK or renewing trident, so I'm very much on the fence here. What I do know though is that the attacks of the future won't be like the old. One of the 'glories' of capitalism is that you no longer need to nuke a country to 'win'. You can quite easily dominate the world or protect yourself via economic means. As for attacking other countries - digital espionage is the method of choice for the future. So for me, we should concentrate on our economy and grow our cyber capabilities. Though of course, trident renewal doesn't have to distract from either of those, but it could re-route money away from other areas more vital to our defence in the modern world. Also, your post says 'your heroes spend months'. I was under the impression this was a 'Liberal Democrat ordered report', not a Liberal Democrat written report.
  16. I don't really see how your title for this thread in any way reflects the reality of the current Lib Dem position on this report. I think you have an axe to grind, and should step back from that. I don't see a problem with this report at all. I bet it cost virtually nothing, whilst adding a lot to the debate.
  17. Parties are broad churches. There's never going to be full agreement on every issue, especially when you go intergenerational. However, one thing is sure. Tony Benn and co could not be further from UKIP's policies. Being anti-EU is fine, even if I vehemently disagree with that position, but many of their other policies would set this country back a long way. Read their manifesto and tell me that is really what you want?! The end of the progressive tax system, then end of state education as we know it and a ridiculous expansion of our military to name but three.
  18. I don't really see how this makes much difference. The ruling doesn't change the justice system's ability to lock anyone up indefinitely if it so wishes. All it means is that every x amount of years(which can be a long amount of years), a whole life tariff is reviewed. There are only 49 irrc people that this applies to in the UK. I doubt that any one of them would be released, and if they were it would be under the correct circumstances.
  19. Again, why the such aggressive response?! It's not abnormal for people who have achieved something to be invited to downing street. Also, I can forgive Cameron and Clegg on this as they both play/played tennis, so it's not like they are inventing some sudden like of the sport... not that that would be a problem as they are just recognising his general sporting achievement. I just think there are far worse things that politicians can do than being seen to enjoy some sort of function with a Wimbledon champion (which I think most people probably would).
  20. I don't see why a response that aggressive is warranted! People get knighthoods for sporting achievements all the time, and Andy Murray is a very successful sportsman who has pretty much dedicated his whole life to the pursuit of tennis working ridiculously hard in the process (and brining joy to many people!). If Bradley Wiggins deserved a knighthood, so does Andy Murray.
  21. I really don't sense that big of a change? What am I missing?
  22. People have always said it used to be better. Nostalgia.
  23. Fantastic stuff. Second grand slam for Murray. Hopefully many more to come!
  24. Managed to get myself on centre court for the last bit of the Murray match yesterday. Fantastic atmosphere, and the standard of tennis in the men's game is truly amazing.
  25. That joke got old a long long time ago.
