Yes, we have lost many players and it is sad that a lot of them are academy players. But we have a lot of money now, and have bought two decent replacements so far and it seems another may not be far off. We also have a couple of promising academy players coming through too. However, there is little we can do when top 6 clubs come knocking. That is apparently the modern game and there is little we can do about that. As for Katharina Liebherr, she had to take over from her father in league one and has evidently invested and continued to invest a lot since then. Things are not going badly, and I don't think they necessarily will next season. We have a good manager and good players. We'll probably finish midtable once this is all done and the money is reinvested.

This is pretty offensive. None of you know her, or anything about her and therefore you have no idea what her intentions or motivations are and so this is just pointless speculation. Leave her be.

There would be no Saints without the academy. We would have been out of business long ago. Or at least, we would have had to have been a differently run club in the past given the hole it would have left in our finance if it didn't exist.

Because it's a discussion board about Southampton, so why not. I'm not worried *yet*. I'm sad to see a lot of the players leave this summer that I have been able to watch at Saints over the past few years, and especially academy ones as it is always nice to think that we have the academy out playing for us. But at the same time, we have a lot of cash now, so lets see what they do with that over the next few weeks. If we don't get anyone in in the next couple of weeks or so then I will panic (or at least concede we are unlikely to match last season).

Would this have happened with Cortese in charge? The exodus we have and continue to see...

This probably needs a new thread as there is no connection between the two events causes.

I do blindly put in 3 saints players - last season it payed off well because we did so good. I think I had Shaw, Lallana and Lambert iirc (which I later changed to Rodriguez).

Koeman's first Southampton press conference 11/7/14

A lot of people on twitter don't tweet ever! -
Birmingham is a russell group which'll make a huge difference. Yes, you want a uni with a decent social scene (and Birmingham is good - I have a friend up there and have visited him), but ultimately it has to be about the academic experience.

How will you be voting on Thursday in the Euro and local elections?
Saintandy666 replied to TopGun's topic in The Lounge
My local councillor is a lib dem and has been doing it for a long time and when I've contacted/others have contacted has always been quick to respond etc and seems to work hard. I will vote Lib Dem in locals. In the Euros I'll also vote Lib Dems because they have a clear pro-EU policy, unlike the other 3 main parties. -
But it really isn't comparable to other forms of debt. As well as paying nothing now, I don't pay anything back until I can afford it at 9% over 21k a year, which is a higher threshold than the previous system. It doesn't go on my credit rating, and if I fall below 21k I stop paying. And then it gets cancelled after 30 years. At no point does someone knock on my door and repossess. I just pay steadily according to my means. I know you know this, but I'm not sure a lot of people do. It really isn't a lot different from the old system and I think a lot of people are realising this now, with record applications and encouragingly record applications from people from poorer background.

If you want me to come up with more examples, we can go... how about the EHIC card which guarantees you free treatment whilst abroad in the European Economic Area? Or the eramus scheme which is something close to tonnes of students given the support it has offered in exchange programmes over the years. This and plenty more here - http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/european-debate/so-what-has-europe-ever-done-for-you-9099786.html and the website I linked above. The main one though is obviously the single market and it's not a coincidence that business is generally pro-EU. UKIP and other eurosceptics like to pretend we would be able to keep that arrangement, but leave. They point to switzerland and norway, but conveniently forget to mention that norway and switzerland have to follow the vast majority of EU laws and regulations in order to get the benefits of the single market. Have a look here if you want: http://www.jcm.org.uk/blog/2011/05/why-britain-leaving-the-eu-for-the-eea-or-efta-will-not-solve-any-of-the-anti-eu-crowds-complaints/

Pap: What is your point? So one particular Liberal Democrat changed his mind on the EU and is now UKIP. Makes sense really as the Liberal Democrats are a pro-european party. Sour Mash: Because we gain and can do so much through Europe. We gain financially by being a driving part of the world's largest economy, and one which we do plenty of trade with ourselves. We gain politically because we are much louder together than apart. Just look at the effects the EU-co-ordinated ban on the chemicals used in lethal injections is having on the US debate on capital punishment. We also have our freedoms protected at a higher level, just look at the way in which the EU has recently struck down the unfair roaming charges companies bill whilst you are on holiday. As a person who is also currently on the £9k fees, and also marched against the rise back in 2010 and again in 2011, I will be voting for the liberal democrats. I want a strong pro-european voice and the Liberal Democrats are the only serious party that can provide that. I really think because this election is about a lot more than it usually is, pro-europeans should consider lending their vote to the Lib Dems or we will just get a bunch of MEPs in Europe who either are against the organisation or can't properly commit to it.
-
The Liberal Democrats are the only main party with a clear in policy. Labour and the Tories are all over the place, and UKIP are the party of out. As someone who believes the EU and the good it can and does do, I'll be voting Lib Dems.

Ermmm, maybe I'm a bit thick but how does telling the Mail that Lallana/Shaw is linked to Man U destabilise anything at board level?!?!

There's a halal subway just down the street from where I live (there's also a non-halal one) and it is very clearly labelled. The policy has been in place since 2007 and has been applied to new shops based on the demographic of the area. 185 out of roughly 1500 are halal, so it's a small number which'll be in areas of large muslim population where there is demand for it and where not much pork would sell anyway I expect. More mixed areas like where I live will have both in short distances from each other. It really isn't duping or anything like that at all, and no one is being forced to eat anything they don't want to. Also, point in relation to subway - all their meat conforms to EU directives on animal slaughter - i.e it is all prestunned. 90% of Halal meat in this country (RSPCA report) follows the prestunning method.

I grew up in Basingstoke, and know there is definitely a lot tongue in cheek bigging it up - but always in a jokey way. Including Heathrow and Farnborough airport in the same sentence sounds like exactly the kind of joke thing someone from Basingstoke would say!

The guy who gave the quote must be being sarcastic... Farnborough airport?!

Post-Match Reaction: SAINTS 2-0 Everton
Saintandy666 replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
I don't agree with imploding - but we could certainly lose a lot of our academy first team players which would be a shame. But we would get a lot of money for them which would hopefully be invested wisely and no doubt we could be in upper mid table again next season. But I kind of like the idea of keeping the academy together. -

Indeed, and he also said that Southampton could get in another couple of players in the transfer market and then challenge for Europe. I think it is very much in the balance. If we make a statement in the summer and sign a couple of big players to move on to just outside to challenging for European spots I reckon we might be able to keep hold of him. -
Perhaps, all the rumours were that he wanted the job.

If the Ferguson ever present rumours are true, they should have gone for Mourihno. He wouldn't have taken any **** from anyone. Although if Ferguson wasn't picking the successor they might have done that in the first place.
