Except it isn't funny at all - this whole event is not funny. We should not laugh at the fact that Ched Evans has ruined a person's life by raping them.

Do you honestly believe we are in any danger of not getting to 40 points? i.e of losing every single remaining game - all 18 of them. We are basically guaranteed a top 10-12 position even if we have a **** second half to the season.

Very good year this has been, especially considering where we were not so long ago. Seems over the past year or two, we have started to consolidate ourselves as at least a 'best of the rest' team, which is good progress. Can we break the top 6 though? Definitely think we can usurp the merseyside duo this year, but in the longer term worry they have more support and more resources. What do we all think?

Makes it all the more crucial that there has been a coalition these past few years; to temper the tory's worst instincts.

Let's calm down. We're in 5th and we are well placed to weather the storm. At Arsenal and Manchester United, we were far from out of it and we could have beaten Burnley with a bit more umph. We'll be alright, I have faith we'll get out of this and finish in the top 8 come end of the season.

Woops

Although having said that they've had a couple of decent chances now.

They are staying in this via fouling our players. Patience and we will win this I reckon.

http://www.sportsclubstats.com/England/Southampton.html According to this 72 point will guarantee us champions league football. Although anything 64ish upwards should be fine too.
-
You really do make some incredibly sexist points.
-
The BBC are making a push of it. I think that is fine - does it really upset you that it is given a position on the webpage of prominence? Why not... obviously, we all know the relative standard of Women's football isn't as good as the men's at present, but there's also a big gulf in attention and money. Just look at tennis to see what can happen when women's sport is put on an equal footing.

ITV probably have a bit of extra cash floating around post losing the champions league rights, so could potentially outbid? Add to that the current daily-mail fuelled anti-BBC budgeting stuff I think we should all be worried.

I had the pleasure (or perhaps not) of getting to meet Sepp Blatter last year. We got a good 30 minutes with the guy in a room of about 10 or so people plus him and his team, so enough to assess his style and this was after a talk by him as well. He was a proper slick politician in his style, but squirmed a reasonable amount under pressure. I pushed him on Qatari workers rights which he totally failed to address, and another guy pushed him on how the Fifa votes on Qatar and Russia can still stand when by his own admission there was corruption in FIFA at the time of the vote. Again, vague answers about what FIFA is supposedly doing now as opposed to what should have been done then and whether what did happen then should invalidate the present. For what it is worth, I admire the idea of taking the world cup to a new area, but I don't know how FIFA can be okay with a world cup being built on such open slavery and abuse.

Can't see this with the injury he's had. No one is going to splash the big cash on him until they see him back on the field again for a few months. Maybe if he returns in january and has a storming close season?

I'm not going to get into an extended argument with you over this, but I will say just once that you can not quantify what you are trying to quantify in terms of the effect upon the victim. There is no 'not really up for it'. If the woman in question 'isn't really up for it', then she isn't giving her consent and it is rape. And the effects of that on an individual you can't quantify unless you are in that particular situation. Rape is rape and it ruins people's lives and that is regardless of whether it is by someone they know and trust (which is by far the most common way) or whether it is by a stranger (which is much rarer). I'm not going to comment on Duckhunter's comment about 'chucking drink down' throats to 'loosen their inhibitions' other than to say he should read it back.

Most rape (9 in every 10) is by someone the person knows. And it isn't up to anybody else except the victim to decide how traumatic it was for that individual. I'm not therefore going to compare rape situations because I have no idea what it is like to be raped. All I know is that from talking to victims in the past, it is traumatising in all cases. And there isn't degree of rape. Either there is consent or there isn't consent, one is consensual sex and the other is rape. And I really don't get what you mean by ''if she is ****ed up and claims she didn't consent''. Either there was consent or there wasn't, and studies have shown that when it comes to reporting false reports make up a minuscule amount of overall reports. Another tragedy is that many individuals don't feel they can come forward at all and instead have to live with it for years and in many cases have to continue to deal with the person who raped them on the daily basis.
-
Have to take issue with the use of 'grey rape' here. Rape is rape is rape. There is either consent from involved individuals or there isn't. Use of that phrase helps perpetuate the idea that there are some forms of rape that aren't really quite full rape; something I'm sure you weren't trying to do.
-
Why are some of you lot so desperate to entertain the idea he is innocent? The guy was found guilty unanimously guilty in court. Do those who are pushing this have any idea how rare that is? Most rape goes unreported, and then if it is reported it rarely manages to get to trial because our legal system is not fit for purpose for dealing with rape (and I will be the first to admit I do not know the solution to that problem). I also think we should stop for a moment, and consider the woman who we should be concerned about in this, the one who was raped and most likely has had her life haunted and ruined by that. In comparison to that I honestly could not care about the welfare of a convicted rapist who wants to be allowed to immediately return to his super-privileged position as a representative of the community. I passionately believe in rehabilitation, but Ched Evans is firstly refusing to go along that route and secondly I think there is an important truth in what Charlie Webster has been saying this week. Footballer is not a normal job, it's a job of heightened responsibility in terms of you being a representative of that community and I get that it is a massive slap in the face to survivors of sexual violence who support Sheffield United to allow him to walk straight back into that role. Also think it is important to note that his punishment is not yet over; he's been let out early on parole.

You could say the same about most team's main striker! And who is to say without Pelle, we wouldn't have someone equally as goalscoring as him.
-
Makes perfect sense for him. Would still be in a top league and so playing for a top team, and also gets a much better shot at first team football in the longer term here.
-
Would rather a draw in West Ham and Man City - ultimately West Ham more likely to be rivals and gives us the chance for the 2nd place for a bit too.

Farage is exactly of the same background. He went to public school. He is not some man of the people.
