  1. I'm currently reading Philip K D1ck's 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep', which as most will know is the novel that Bladerunner was based on. never actually read any of his work before and haven't watched Bladerunner since I was about 17 so thought I would give it a go. Very strange book so far.
  2. Watched Persepolis the other night. Hugely enjoyable french animation charting the life-story of a girl growing up in Iran during the revolution. I understand it was based on a graphic novel which itself was based on the real-life experiences of the author Marjanne Satrapi. Very moving and in parts very funny - the story charts Marjanne as she grows up and relocates to Vienna to escape the Iran/Iraq war. Well worth watching - 8/10
  3. First I've heard of it, but I wouldn't rule it out completely. Perhaps our F1 mole Ponty could enlighten us.
  4. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/motor-racing/massa-doctors-encouraged-by-signs-of-improvement-1761980.html Good to hear. A friend of mine suffered a similar head injury in a motorway paile-up last october and he's only recently gone back to work. They can take a long time to recover from so I reckon it could be some time before we see Massa driving again. All the best Felipe.
  5. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8166851.stm Not sure exactly what changes Maclaren have made recently but what a turnaround! Will be interesting to see them challenging at the front with Brawn and Red Bull
  6. I thought Eto'o was going to pompey with Villa and Silva though
  7. I would just like it to be known that I too would be willing to act on behalf of these players pfc123 - seriously, if you believe this then you are living in cloud cuckoo land. Do you really, genuinely expect eto'0, Silva & Villa to sign for Pompey, just because they are hoping to appoint Maradonna as a global ambassador? :smt075
  8. I came across a thread on another forum recently discussing the demise of the local pubs in the UK, and one poster claimed that it is because a very large majority of local pubs are owned by national companies, chains etc.. who have massive debts to pay off due to the recession. This combined with the amount of duty to be paid on alcohol at present means they are much better off selling the property for redevelopment than they are continuing to run the pub as a viable business. I'll try and find the link - it's an interesting discussion.
  9. I just came across this on another forum and I thought I would share it with you all because it's quite hilarious... http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=497332 Oh and FWIW, I think there is more chance of Tony Blair apologising for the Iraq war than there is of Leroy Lita joining Saints.
  10. No. I was wondering who Daren Brown is. I know of an author called DAN Brown and a hypnotist called DERREN Brown. I think the poster was getting confused between the two, but I suspect he was referring to DAN Brown. I was also only being pedantic
  11. OK, fair enough. I think when you mention the 'nutjob sonspiracy theorists' (still a shocking prejudice IMO as I have never yet met anyone who fits that sterotype) you are referring to a very small minority. You are correct of course when you say that people on either side of the coin are capable of doing their own research. It just angers me when I see people who have absolutely no knowledge on a particular subject ridiculing and dismissing those who actually investigate for themselves because their 'nutjob' theories do not fit in with their own world view and so therefore must be wrong. I'd just like to add that I wasn't specifically casting you in that category. It was more of a general statement.
  12. On the flipside of that though delldays, it could be said that anybody who just blindly believes the BS they are spoon-fed without questioning it and doing their own research, and who dismiss others whose views don't match their own as 'clearly mental and lacking something in their lives' is just a sheep who is incapable of thinking for themselves and feels the need to apply stereotypes to others in order to maintain a false air of superiority.
  13. Who's he then?
  14. I disagree. Bush was no criminal mastermind, that much is for sure. But they only needed to cover it up enough to make sure they didn't leave a 'smoking gun' and this is what they did. There are dozens/hundreds of individual aspects of the whole saga that just do not add up. Each one of them on their own could easily be dismissed as circumstantial or just plain coincidence, but when you add them all together the chances of coincidence becomes infinitessimally small.
  15. I think the point that Baj was making is that if they got away with faking it once, why would they attempt it over and over again and risk getting found out?
  16. http://www.naturalnews.com/026503_pandemic_swine_flu_bioterrorism.html Will be very interesting to see the outcome of this case. One journalist against some of the most powerful and financially-backed organisations in the world. What's the betting she ends up committing suicide?
  17. I think that's a bit of an unfair generalisation Gingeletiss. You are right about the doubters of the moon landings, I agree because the evidence to prove them as real is overwhelming and, the case against it is easily disprovable. However, I have read various books on the subject of 9/11 and I am 100% convinced that the US government was involved in it. This isn't based on blind, irrational belief in global conspiracies, because I'm not that gullible. It is based on a lot of research I have done into this subject, which has so far failed to provide any evidence that the 911 comission report and the NIST report on the collapse of the WTC towers are anything other than politically-motivated works of complete fiction.
  18. Sorry Ponty but there is a big flaw in this. The rocks that fall to earth as meteorites all suffer from scorching and oxidisation as they enter the atmosphere, and there is a simple test to determine this. Independent geologists have confirmed without any doubt that the rocks that were brought back from Apollo 11 did not have such properties, therefore they must have been genuine.
  19. Like Surman and DMG you mean? I do agree with the previous poster though. This has a ring of deja vu about it regarding Pinnacle. Just a few legalities that need ironing out. what if they can't be ironed out? There still seems to be some doubt about where the actual finance is coming from, so I can't see the PL approving the deal. They can't carry out a FAPPT if they don't know who the main investor actually is.
  20. I looked at the photographic evidence supporting the hoax claim a few years ago, and while some of it is quite compelling, there is overwhelming evidence to prove that the landings were definitely not faked. There is equipment left on the surface that can be seen from earth with a telescope for starters. If that isn't enough evidence for some people then there is no hope for them. Add to that the laser reflector left there for distance ranging and the rocks they brought back (both from the first mission I might add) and the hoax theory dies on its arse. As to why we have not been back. Why? What would be the point? It would cost $billions to get there and it's nothing but a big rock floating in space. There is no value in any further scientific study of it.
  21. Agreed. When I first watched this film the ending actually moved me to tears, and that is the first time a film has done that since I first watched Watership Down as a child. Can't recommend it highly enough.
  22. I remember going to Top Trainers there once as they had Gary Mason (ex British Heavyweight champion boxer) doing an appearnce cos of his sponsorship deal with Troop (remember them?) This must have been about 1990 and Lennox Lewis was just making a name for himself as a professional boxer. This lad just in front of me in the queue to get his poster signed asked Gary if he wanted to fight Lennox Lewis, and his reply was "don't be stupid, I want to be world champion". Ha ha. Gary retired shortly afterwards after losing his british title, and we all know what happened to Lewis. I also remember a story about somebody buying some locusts from the pet shop and letting them loose in the shopping centre.
  23. Not exactly a surprise. They were talking about this happening all weekend on BBC on their coverage of Nurburgring last week. Let's see how this Alguersuari chap gets on in Hungary. On another note, I know that Hungary isn't renowned for exciting races but I'm looking forward to it. It's always a lot hotter in Budapest this time of year, so hopefully Brawn will be able to overcome the tyre temperature problems that have plagued them for the last two races and Button can get his title charge back on track. I think he likes this track!
  24. Very interesting to read some of the comments on there. Not so long ago, pompey were on the verge of relegation to tier 3 and financial obscurity, and we all know now how that feels. Yet some of these fans are still able to get 'angry' about the fact that some of the massive debt on which their recent success was built now needs to be serviced. Instead of complaining, perhaps they should be grateful for some of the relative success they have enjoyed over the last few years, and accept that sometime the people that funded that success would need to be repaid.
  25. Love some of the sarcastic comments under the article. Most of them would be hilarious if they weren't so true. I have to say though, Southampton - European City of Culture?
