http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20100124/video/vuk-seventeen-arrested-at-right-wing-pro-37e89e1.html Or not, as it would appear. Still, I'm sure our resident defenders of the EDL will come along soon and tell us that they are actually a non-violent organisation and are just the victims of propaganda, or some other equally less believeable load of BS.

I need a cup of tea and a biscuit after that finale! Sounds like we totally deserved the win though.

Didn't he play under Pardew at Charlton? I reckon he could be a very good signing at this level from what I remember of him.

Couldn't really ask for much more than that. I only saw the second half and missed the penalty incident so can't make a judgement, but I thought Saints kept the ball well and didn't panic when we went down to 10 men. Ref had a bit of a shocker but we should be used to that by now in L1. Clean sheet away from home and now we have the psychological edge for the return leg at SMS. Bring it on!!!

Man who attacked robber is freed on appeal
Sheaf Saint replied to INFLUENCED.COM's topic in The Lounge
Of course I understand them. You 'believe' he was morally wrong, because that is your reasoned opinion after clearly giving the matter some thought. I totally respect that. But whether you are correct or not, do you think he was capable, in the heat of the moment, of thinking "Hmmm, perhaps I had better not give this guy a beating because it might be morally wrong"? Somehow I doubt it. It's all very well you saying that you think he was morally wrong, but in my opinion he wasn't in any position to make such a judgement himself at the time, so it is not for you or I to judge his actions because we clearly have no concept of what emotions he was feeling when he did what he did. I agree that he should have faced some kind of reprimand because what he did to the guy was clearly a violent, unlawful act and nobody should be above the law. But his sentence for it should reflect the circumstances of the case and I am glad that his appeal has been partially successful on that basis. -

Maybe he was morally wrong Bungle, but who are you, or I, or anybody to judge the actions of somebody who has just seen his family tied up and threatened? How can you know how you would react in that situation? There is, I believe, precedent in the UK legal system that sentences can be reduced on grounds of diminished responsibility. Well I believe that the pure rage he must have been feeling after witnessing what this intruder did to his family is more than sufficient to claim that he was not of sound mind and judgement when he reacted in the way that he did. -
You just don't get it do you Alpine. I'm not saying that these people should not be criticised - far from it. If there are people who are conducting improper research and twisting data to fit their agenda, then yes I agree that they need to be outed for that. But, and I'm getting really tired of repeating myself to the likes of you, Dune & St George, there are plenty of climate scientists who are not corrupt and do not carry out improper research, but you just can't bring yourself to see it. The failings of the few destroy the reputation of all in your eyes, and you do not seem to be able to grasp just how irrational that attitude is.

Sorry if I am being dim, but could you please tell us who you are referring to by Gordon Brown's foot soldiers? Seeing as I am not a CC denier, do you include me in that sweeping generalisation? For the record, I have never, and will never support Gordon Brown or any of the rest of his pathetic excuse for a cabinet. I think the guy is an absolute joke of a PM and I would rather stick hot needles in my eyes, cut myself with rusty razorblades and then have a bath in my own p1ss than vote for his rent-a-quote bunch of clowns. For the umpteenth ****ing time Dune, why are you so utterly incapable of seperating the scientific principle of climate change from the political agenda of our government? Why can you not see that they are two completely different things? Just because certain people are using the issue to further their own agenda, DOESN'T MEAN IT ISN'T ACTUALLY HAPPENING!!!!!!
-
All of them? Every single one of them? I hope you have some evidence to back that claim up Alpine, really I do. So a small percentage of scientists have been discovered to have ulterior motives or a conflict of interest. What about all those that haven't? Care to give us your expert opinion on them. Of course not. I guess that applying an ill-informed prejudice is so much easier than actually doing some resarch on the subject.

Maybe the FA should send an official down to take a reading from their water meter to find out!
-
Why? The Labour govt in this country have been doing that for years!
-
Out of interest, how much do you expect to spend on this all in? I haven't been able to afford a boarding holiday for the last 3 seasons now and I'm itching to get away again. Would be interested to see if this is do-able for me.

Seeing as it was on Channel 4 lastnight, and because my girlfriend wanted to watch it, I finally got round to watching Slumdog Millionaire. I won't give a full synopsis or even a detailed review, because I'm assuming most people have seen it. Suffice to say, I thought it was a lot better than the trailers I had previously seen had made it out to be (they seemed to give the impression that it was a musical???), but that it was badly, badly let down by the last 15-20 minutes where it ceases to be a hard-hitting, gritty story about the difficulties of growing up in the slums of Mumbai, and descends into an all-out 'Hollywood meets Bollywood' vomit-inducing cheese-fest. 5/10. It would have been a lot higher if it weren't for the terrible ending.

Now illegal for police to conduct stop and search
Sheaf Saint replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Lounge
But doesn't everybody get subjected to the same security searches at airports already regardless of whether they are a blue-rinse granny or a 20-something muslim? So what's the problem? They still get searched either way. The point mof this thread is not about airport security - that is a completely seperate issue - what we are discussing here is the repealling of the police powers to stop and search anybody in the street without needing any cause or suspicion to do so. Can you not see how such powers can be abused, and go against the basic human right of freedom to walk the streets without police harrassment? -
Well according to my clock the 5pm deadline for them to pay up has been and gone. I wonder what BS excuse they will come up with this time?
-
Isn't that what I said? :smt102

I think this thread is overdue a change of name, seeing as the takeover is just a distant memory and theyu have more pressing concerns right now than finding yet another owner. May I suggest we call it 'The Pompey Pantomime' or perhaps the 'The last Days of Pompeii/Pompey'?

He would be better off getting himself to calais and stowing away in the back of a container lorry.
