Man U generally treat cup matches differently to Arsenal. They do tend to rest certain players but keep the spine of the team the same. However, if the likes of Rooney and Ronaldo are rested you can bet that they will be on the bench ready to come on if required.

TBH, for a player that gets picked week in week out, we cut him too much slack. As for 21 year old strikers in the CCC, anyone who was at KC Stadium and saw Fraizer Campbell's performance against us (albeit last season) would beg to differ. DMG will never be capable of that standard.

Saints Greatest XI - Best Centre Backs Poll
krissyboy31 replied to St Landrew's topic in Golden Posts
Ah yes, but if you are picking a sub, the best man for the job is David Puckett. Picked No 12 week after week and would spend all game every game warming up along the West Stand running track hardly ever actually getting on the pitch. Best sub we ever had!! -
I doubt it. I watched the Blackpool game on tv in the States, which although was on Sky in th UK, was on Setanta USA over there.
-
TBF he did say 2 in 48 hrs, although it is actually 2 in 53 hrs.
-
Exactly. Seems some on here would rather have a Brett Ormerod type player that will run and run all day but couldn't hit a barn door, than a Rasiak or John who instictively know how to be in the right place at the right time (therefore don't need to do as much running) and score 20 goals a season.

Will Saints be reducing store prices with the VAT cut as of Monday?
krissyboy31 replied to Big_Bald_Si's topic in The Saints
This is very true but I'd like to see them try and get it signed off by the auditors that they have raised the prices at the very same time as the VAT has dropped and by exactly the same amount. -

Suggest you don't let the government know who your company is then! -

I think you'll find there is. The price of the garment is ex vat and a further 17.5% goes to the goverment. As from monday it is the amount that goes to the government that changes, the price of the garment remains the same. If the club tried to pocket the difference they could be prosecuted for fraud and the fine that would follow would almost certainly bankrupt us. -
Well we couldn't do much worse! Could we?

Brought a tear to my eye reading the OP. Mickey Channon, legend and my all time hero. There have been more talented players to wear the old red & white stripes but none as endearing.

We've always been crap at corners. MLT could deliver a mean corner but we still never managed to get anyone on the end of it (a few Monkou, Ruddock and Svensson headers aside). Claus went up for every corner we had over about an 8 year period and I don't think ever manager to get his head on one. I always thought he might as well had stayed back for all the use he was, in the opponents box. What really riles me is the second ball. If the ball goes loose in the opponents area, they are always on the end of it to make an easy clearance. If it goes loose in our box, all hell is let loose, either the opponents get a second, or third shot at goal or we panic and either slice the clearance, or worse still, give it straight back to the oppo without clearing the box.
-
We have had to get Pearce in because of the Svensson situation and he seems to have been doing a resonable job (although not played in the last 2 games). I don't think we would have loaned if he had remained fit and my argument is that the club should of acted in the close season to make sure we had decent cover from first kick off. As for Perry, Lancashire and Cork being adequate cover. Perry is not going to be able to play week in week out, especially if we are playing Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday. Lancashire is going to be in and out because at this stage of his career, he lacks consistency (oh yes, and has so far been suspended for 5 games and "off the field" for part of 2). And Cork half of the time is covering at right back and in any case is wasted in the back 4 IMO, because he is better as a holding MF player.
-
I agree with that but if anything last season taught us, is that we needed a big f'off centre half, which was pretty effectively cured when Lucketti was in the team. The club were rediculously optimistic that the second (or third) coming of Killer, would cure the problem and therefore save them having to sign somebody for that position.
-
Rugby League has had a similar system working for several years, only they have got 3 criteria. Home-trained (i.e. academy players), UK trained (players either born or learned their trade in the UK and qualify for the home countries) and overseas (quota) players. Over the next 5 years they are phasing in more home-trained players and less quota players, which seems like a good idea if we want England to develop more quality players.
-
I don't particularly think it was the fans that were relying on Killer returning. Most of us hoped but held reservations. It was the management that was relying on it, probably signing Perry as a stopgap in favour of Lucketti because they had pinned there hopes on already having the big, physical, experienced centrehalf, available on the cheap.

No thanks. Either would be a complete embarassment.

The thing is Surman is not a defensive player. Last season he was poor by his standards because he was being played mostly at left back. This season he has been one of our better players but his instincts are as an attacking midfield player, where he's at his best. He has a good shot and times his runs into the box very well. In the holding role he is stifled and that does not get the best out of him.
-
Cork and Schneiderlin should be playing as the defensive midfield pairing, enabling Surman to play in a more advanced position. This would give the back four extra protection and also give us more fire power further up the pitch. Unforetunately, Cork keeps being slotted in to cover deficiencies at right or centreback.

I also think admnistration is inevitable without investment. Player sales in January and at the end of the season, may well delay the process and appease the banks temporarily but IMO it will come. The question is, whether it is better to go through a slow lingering death, selling off what is left of the family silver until there is nothing left of value to offload? Or do we just cut our losses, file for administration and call in professional people to try and get us out of the mess we are in? Devil and the deep blue sea comes to mind.
-
All were mentioned on the nominations thread. StL put the top 5 nominees to the vote.
-
Exactly right. For several years we have offloaded many of our better and adequate players (which by the way has got us where, on the financial front?) and every time, we get so called supporters stating they will be NO GREAT LOSS!! Wake up people!! By keep selling our better players, we are accellerating our downward spiral. If this policy is not reversed (and pretty damned fast) we will hit the deck with one almighty crash.

Saints Greatest XI - Nominations For Best LB.
krissyboy31 replied to St Landrew's topic in Golden Posts
Stuart Pearce came slightly later. Kenny Sansom was England LB at the time. But I agree Dennis should have played for England because he was the best in the country.
