Skacel back in consideration + article on Stern John
krissyboy31 replied to NickG's topic in The Saints
How many more times is this myth going to resurface? It seems like every Skacel thread, someone brings this rubbish up. -
It's a pretty futile argument now though isn't it? But I wouldn't blame Pearson for a little bit of gloating as he waves to us in passing between CCC and League1.
-
Yes and look where that got us!
-
Indeed, Wright was signed on 20th, Perry on 27th and Lucketti on the 28th. All in the aftermath of the Hull City game, where the back four were Ostlund Thomas Powell and Vignal (all Burley signings if I'm not mistaken).
-
TBF Trousers, he does at least go to the games, when he's not touring (more than can be said for many of our higher profile supporters).
-
Actually Jonah, were you at that game? Because I was and it was embarrassing but there were mitigating circumstances. You correctly say that Powell played but as for being fit, I beg to differ. Hull City were on a run that we could only dream about and they exploited Powell's lack of mobility perfectly. Fraiser Campbell was near on unplayable that day and we actually did pretty well to keep it down to five. Oh yes, we also had the 3rd/4th keeper in goal, who happened to injure himself in the warm-up and played the whole game virtually on one leg. As I say, it was annoying, it was embarrassing but would probably have happened whoever was in charge.

You can see it now. Kids all over the country raiding their piggy banks, beg stealing or bollowing the money because they just can't seem to get Olly Lancashire!!

Did BWP & McGoldrick attack a Saints fan?
krissyboy31 replied to StuRomseySaint's topic in The Saints
Plenty of boobs but nay t!ts (as they say in Glasgow!!) -
I agree with a deal of what you say here but with regards to your last sentence, the reason that Wotte does not have the fans support is because they (and I'm typing from my POV) believe that he is at least partly culpable for the dire performance we have seen in the first half of the season. He and JP came as a pair, they were introduced together and hailed as two parts of Rupert's revolutionary, continental style coaching set-up. It matters not that he has tried to distance himself from that since he took over, he is tarred with the same brush.

I agree with this. We don't know what happened, if indeed anything happened. In general, if someone attacks someone else, it's within their rights to defend themself but to lash out for name calling or petty abuse is unaccepable. -
No. Dodd and Gorman were a disaster and that period was the main reason we took until the final game of the season to be safe last season. If Pearson had taken over when Burley left, IMO (and I am convinced of this) we would have finished comfortably lower mid-table. What he could have done with this seasons playing squad is anyones guess but I'd put money on us not being in the bottom 2 at any stage of the season.

It is "fact" in as much as Crouch actually said it. Now, if you think he was lying, then that's your perogative but I don't believe he would lie about something as fundemental as that.
-
Hang-on! Neither side have ever said the decision was based on results or performance. Lowe made the decision on "cost" and he wanted to set up his revolutionary continental coaching team and Crouch's side are convinced it was because he was Crouch/McMenemy's man. Pearson, who's record wasn't the greatest, had done enough to suggest he could have been a decent manager for us at this level and should have been retained. Bringing in the Dutch contingent has been an absolute disaster for this football club and it was wholly predictable by all bar people close to the current Boardroom.
-
Fair play Trousers. I was dying to post something similar but didn't have the guts!!
-
Plus the fact that Crouch had (according to him) had his budget for the season already agreed with the bank.
-
I don't see what relevance that has got. Are you saying that Lowe is vindicated because Pearson would only have left us in the lurch and gone to Boro? Well if only one of our two managers had been good enough to get interest from a Premiership club, then I, for one, would be delighted because we wouldn't be second bloody bottom, would we?
-
At the time of the EGM. NP was fully expecting to be staying at Southampton and was already making plans for the new season. The national press had rumours that Lowe had lined up a replacement, if he managed to wrestle power back from Crouch (although the name being bandied about was Hoddle). NP had Crouch's 100% backing and when Crouch knew that he was on his way out made a statement that he hoped that Lowe would keep him on as manager. I suspect it was Crouch's backing, more than anything, that sealed Lowe's decision to get rid of him.
-
But that is completely different to what JFP was saying.
-
http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/?page_id=10167 Lowe had these two lined up all along. It states that NP's contract will not be renewed when it RUNS OUT next month.
-
The club never said anything of the sort. The official line was that his contract had not been renewed!
-
Chelsea have done it too according to SSN. Sacking Scolari!!
-
How do you know that? Unless I have missed it and you can enlighten me of where the evidence is? I would suggest those are indeed anything but the FACTS!!
-
Yes but in most walks of life they are accountable to the shareholders and if they fail, they are sacked, voted off or given a golden handshake. The problem we have is that most of the people empowered to do this at SLH, are all dependant on Lowe for their own positions and these turkeys aren't about to become Christmas Dinner.

Dyer is the only player with true 'winger' pace that we have but obviously he is elsewhere and therefore unavailable. Who else do we play out wide? Holmes (when fit), Smith, BWP, Surman, Gobern or McLaggon. IMO Gobern and McLaggon aren't yet ready to be thrust into those positions full-time and of the others, probably only Holmes is able to get to the by-line using skill (but even then, on many occasions he has been played on the 'wrong' wing meaning he has to cut inside all the time). We therefore have a series of crosses coming in from our pseudo wide midfielders and our full-backs, from at least 25 yards out. These are the type of cross, that if you are a Central Defender, you are delighted to defend because you can see the whole flight of the ball and the position of its potential targets within your peripheral vision.
