I like them TBH. Gives me a weekend away from the razor blades and the rope.

Negotiating contracts with out of contract players
krissyboy31 replied to Chez's topic in The Saints
I agree completely. Some of our youngsters are NOT good enough but Fish Mills certainly is and will be a cracking player for us in the future (if we can keep hold of him). His problem, like some of the others, was the sink or swim (forgive the pun) policy of the "Revolutionary Coaching System" of throwing in youngsters regardless of whether they were ready or not. -

I agree with that but I think unless he can become No 3 GK (i.e. lose 2 of Davis, Bart, Forecast or Poke), I'd release Pernecky because he won't get a game for the Ressies or the U18's next season. -
Forum match at SMS - one space remaining (away team manager!)

Not trying to be pendantic but 8 and 9 used to be the strikers (IR and CF), 5 and 6 the Centre Backs and 4 and 10 the Central Midfielders. -
Quite often in the past, senior players have had a poor attitude, when playing for the Reserves and have quite rightly been criticised. However, when it is youngsters being given a chance to show that they can step up and may be play a part in the First-Team's survival push, this is very worrying. Remember, several of these players have already represented the First-Team this season and some under JP were first choice.

Lancashire, Molyneux, Gobern, Paterson and Smith all started and Holmes came off the bench. They may not be seen as first teamers but have all been in the first team this season.

Four year deal in May 2006. Watford do have an option to make his signing permanent though. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/?page_id=6853

I may be wrong but I thought Rasiak had another year left?

Agreed. The only scenario where we would stay up but take the points deduction for admin next season, is if we avoid the drop by 10 clear points and that "aint gonna happen!"

SSN just said 5 pm tomorrow is the deadline.

So now any bugger can play on the hallowed turf

One of the main problems with the stadium is that it only generally generates income from matchdays 30 days a year max. The odd pop concert helps but for the rest of the year it's basically a white elephant but one whose pitch has to be tended and stands have to cleaned etc. etc. etc. all costing money. Anything to generate extra revenue outside of this period, should be applauded IMO. The pitch hiring is a good idea but I think that the club should make more of the much lauded catering/hospitality and open one of the suites as Southampton's Top Restaurant venue, open every evening apart from match nights. The Dell bar should also be used more, open most evenings and weekend lunchtimes and should, outside of matchday, be open to all Saints fans and not just members. -
Wotte says he will be in charge and has a plan for next season, if we stay up. Presumably that means he'll be gone if we go down?

Tony Husband just made an off the cuff remark about this week being "interesting" because Thursday is the deadline for clubs to go into administration and take the points deduction, this season. He didn't mention any names but I can't think of any other clubs in the South Today region, bar us, that could be about to make such a decision.
-
Nick, we've been through this before and there are rules about emergency service access and a minimum distance between stands and pitch (although this doesn't seem to apply for redeveloped stadia, such as Stamford Bridge, where the crowd are almost as close as we were at the Dell). However, the distances at SMS are much bigger than the minimum laid down by the FA/FL. As a regular visitor to Hull's KC stadium, built around the same time, all of their stands are much closer than ours and they've also got extra in-goal areas for the Rugby League.

Not so sure, he'll probably score a hattrick against us on Good Friday now.

It is one of the 3 or 4 adverts if you go to [http://www.saintsfc.co.uk]. You've probably got a shortcut set up to take you straight to the index page [http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/index.php], where you would think they would also be advertising the fact as it is the next home game but you are right, there is nothing.

Were Still In The Same Position Jan Left Us In
krissyboy31 replied to St Marco's topic in The Saints
Do you think so? I reckon we need at least 10 points, possibly 11. -
For Blackpool this was a point gained because it kept the gap between them and us the same, whilst using up a game. If the positions were switched we would be happy to say 'point gained'. However as we are the team playing catchup, this is most definately 2 points dropped. Three 'must-win' games in a row and we've failed to win any of them.
-
All the other games had finished before the game restated after the pitch invasion, so the late equaliser was irrelevant.
-
To say that Strachan didn't invest in quality is a little unfair because when he tried to, he was vetoed. Like all of the managers before him and certainly since (apart from the Wilde/Hone/Crouch's reigns), the quality of the players signed was dictated by Lowe's rigid wage policy.
-
You're right but you can only off load players other teams want to sign. The only ones that he could have sold were the ones he wanted to keep. He also had to bring in his own players, which added to the problem.
-
The reason for this was the amount of mediocre managers we had, all aloud to bring in their own players (and some of Lowe's himself). Remember, both Strachan and Saggy Chops commented that they had "never seen so many players," when they took over.
-
And people forget that if it wasn't for a world class Seaman save, he would have scored in the final, as well.
