What the hell.... I have to say in 10 years of doing this I've never seen that.... Sounds like it could be a hardware fault tho... if the cam is losing power then when the device manager refreshes it won't show.... Does seem very strange that one! Possible could be an OS issue and a reinstall of the OS would fix it!!???

No pbs... it's always hard for people that can't see it. I've done a bit of digging on the Dell support forums and a few people have the same issue. a couple of people have cracked it and believe me it wasn't without a headache! Ok so the 2 users that cracked the webcam did the following: Go to Add/Remove Programs and remove any webcam software or drivers that are listed. Give the machine a reboot Insert the Dell Application CD that came with the laptop and search for the folder called "Webcam Central" Install this software and reboot the machine. From what I can see, nobody can get this running using the software/drivers on the Dell download site so there must be a difference in the two. Let me know how you get on....

I had the same issue... I emailed them because I only signed up for Saints TV on the 28th July and was charged £3.99. They told me i needed to resubscribe, so I emailed them explaining i'd paid for a month already and that it was only on the 28th. Within 24 hours they'd replied saying they'd activated my new account until 5th Sept!!

Yea but doesn't that mean you can take 5 people in the car for that £35 quid, which IMO doesn't work out too expensive (that is if you can get 5 people that want to go )

Got the same problem on a laptop at the moment Jeff.... tried everything I could find online and now resorting to a reinstall!!!

Jeff can you get the exact error... sounds like the OS Installation files are corrupt on the disk... i'm sure you'll still be able to get data off the disk but if you can get me the exact error then i might be able to help you a bit more.....

Cost will really be down to where the problem lies... It's quite hard to cost without knowing the problem. A couple hours of labour from someone to take a look and work out the issue should give you a better idea.

Yea, a graphics card issue could prevent it booting. To be honest the symptoms sound like it may have taken a whack at some point. The issue you stated sounds like the screen, however the boot could be another issue...... Check the screen first and let me know how you get on.... If you need any help on the OS config side of stuff give me a shout, that is if 'Son of Bob' only does hardware

If you plug in an external monitor into the laptop do you still see the dashes etc? If so then I would suggest an issue with graphics card on the motherboard. If not then I would say it's more than likely a screen issue and you will need to just get the screen replaced.... http://shop.laptop-parts.eu

I know... I really like safari too.... the other problem I have is it prompting for my network credentials everytime I want to use it in the office.... Bloody frustrating!!!
