That's how we all work roughly in the real world Phil. Not sure that football works like that. Lots of illegal approaches and underhand things going on. If Cortese hasn't learned that by now he soon will. He knows from Saturday's game that we need to get someone in quickly. We can't afford another three performances like that.

I agree. I don't think it will be O'Neil, Adkins, Brown or any of the main names talked about. One thing that Cortese has done since he's been here is to keep his cards very close to his chest. That will be more so than ever now. Apart from him there will only be a couple of others max. who know what is going on and if they leaked anything he would sack them immediately.

Yesterday was the first time I've seen Saints since last season and hence the first time i've seen Lambert since last season. Have to say I was quite shocked. My immediate reaction upon seeing him was that he looked a good stone or so overweight. If I'm correct in terms of his weight that's probably all you need to know as to why he's off colour at the moment.

The starting point I suppose is who will definitely start in the first XI next season and build from there. Two people for each spot in the team. Certs to start are in my view (assuming that they are not sold!): Davis Fonte Harding Schneiderlin Puncheon Lallana Lambert I think you build from there. Need another 17 players. I reckon that we'll get in another 3 or 4 over the summer but probably no more. Right back is the obvious problem area. Question whether Bart is a good enough reserve goalie - he probably is. Do we buy Antonio? Yes, if we can. Is Papa good enough? Maybe not. Touch and go on him I think. Can we squeeze another season out of Jaidi? Probably. I reckon though assuming that they're fit and haven't been sold that only 4 starting positions are up for grabs over the summer.

Don't normally like Martin Samuel but I agree with everything he says in there. He's bang on the money. We did well to get Pardew considering the state we were in last summer.
