  1. I sat GCE (before these GCSE). If the ever improving GCSE results are not a result of dumbing down or devaluing, then it is nice to know that the youth of today are becoming increasingly intelligent. By that token, it means older people, such as myself, must be as thick as two short planks. And if these youths are so intelligent, why is the standard of spelling on boards such as these so **** poor?
  2. why do Pompey think that these billionaires want to pick a football club up on the cheap? wouldn't they prefer to spend a fair few million more and get a club which is much healthier? Why settle for a BMW when you can have a Ferrari?
  3. Villa are in for Distin. Will be interesting to see if he gets sold or not.
  4. While I do hope that Po*pey find some stability, I really can't see what the attraction of buying the club is, especially given its financial status. Can anyone honestly (and seriously) tell me the attraction of buying PFC?
  5. I don't know who you could possibly be referring to but I am with you in liking coincidences!!!
  6. TomTom is the easy to use. Bought the wife a NavMan once and that broke fairly quickly and it was no way as intuitive as TT. I got her TT1 and even she can use it (so it must be easy!!!!). I had a TT Go 910 but that broke. I think that they did go through a patch of dodgy products. Just bought a European version of TT1 IQ for £160. If you don't need Europe (but is very useful on holiday) I think that it is £30-40 cheaper. It depends what else you want your SatNAv to do. If you just want for directions then that's fine. TT1 doesn't do telephone calls but even when my TT910 did, I never used cos its a bit crap. I don't want an MP3 player. Text messages can wait so don't need those read to me when driving. Only thing the 910 had that I liked that I dont have now is a remote control but that's no great problem. Not tried Garmin but would suspect that TomTom is probably the market leader due to its simplicity.
  7. what happens if a club goes into admin and is still owing other clubs money for players bought and not fully paid for?
  8. the most successful person to rise from obscurity is Ian Wright (and I suppose Dion Dublin didn't do too badly going from Cambs Utd to Manc Utd). Went for trials at some professional clubs, but Palace signed him from a Sunday League club. Nice to see someone looking down the leagues rather than just importing foreign players.
  9. Would be nice to see Samuel Eto'o, Sergio Aguero, David Villa and David Silva playing in the same PL team!!! PMSL
  10. Lombok - bit strange being guest of honour at a **** fight Irian Jaya worst **** hole ever been to without doubt was Marseille. Walked from train station to centre of town and was surprised not to be lynched for being a WASP.
  11. Not sure if this has been asked before, but does anyone know of any other company that has appointed a prospective buyer as Chairman before the deal has been done. If SFC had done that, God knows who we might have ended up with! This takeover may well happen, but wouldn't it be best to wait until the money was in the bank before appointing a Chairman. Let him takeover and appoint his own Chairman. If I was a cynic, I would have said that this Arab Dr was appointed to try and get the deal done in the first place. Also loved the interview with the Arab rag. This chap has watched DVDs of Pompey. Wonder if he sat through a whole game or watched on fast forward. If I was to buy a club, I might want to visit and watch them first. A fool and his money.....
  12. I really do think that 25 or 30 points deduction is ridiculous. 10 or 17 is manageable and is a big handicap and therefore should be a deterrent. There should be rules in place to stop teams getting themselves into these situations, but as it does not affect the worst debtors then it is not really a fair system. I have always thought that debt should be linked to turnover, and that way it would stop teams such as Chelsea, United, Liverpool, Man City, Real Madrid etc etc running their business in what really is an unsustainable way ie without rich backers who don't mind taking a hit, they would be bust. I believe Bayern Munich is run at a profit, has low ticket prices and is competitive for top honours, so it can be done. As has been said, no team gets into such dire financial situations on purpose. But does anyone really care? Football beneath the Premiership seems to be an annoyance rather than anything else. In the old days the lower league clubs would be good feeders for the 1st Division teams, but not these days. All these clubs do, is take money away from those in the Premiership (what is it 80% to the Prem and 20% for the rest of football including the non league). This has all come about as a result of Bosman, which I have mixed views on. On the one hand it has ruined lower league clubs' income, but on the other, why should a player be "enslaved" to a club. If those at the top of the chain think that half the teams in the Premiership are an annoyance, why should they, with their undue influence give 2 hoots. Let them go and join a European League, but when that goes into administration, don't let them come back in. If a team from the bottom of the Prem goes into admin, it will be interesting to see what happens. Personally I think that they will be punished in line with current rules. I suppose we might see this soon with our friends down the road. But if it happened to, say, Liverpool, you can rest assured that the QCs will be rolled out and there would be one hell of a court battle.
  13. two things spring to mind: 1) How much I miss The Dell 2) how tight John Barnes's shorts were

If I was this guy, I would buy Newcastle well before Portsmouth. The cost isn't much different considering the debts, and the potential at Newcastle is much bigger than Poopey. Reading is more attractive that them down the road, as are a plethora of other clubs.
  15. I feel sorry for those of you who think that that was the best season in living memory. Some of us are a little older and lived through the 80s, especially the 83/84 season. I would far rather that squad.
  16. Ummm, unless I haven't seen it, Stern hasn't signed the new contract. He says that he wants to stay but that means squat until he signs, except that he doesn't want to burn his bridges. Everyone seems to think that the deal is signed, sealed and delivered. Is it?
  17. Red and white stripes?
  18. While I am sure it will all be fascinating to read, I don't think an administrator should be going to the papers and talking about this. Fry seems to love the limelight too much.
  19. I have a disabled kid, who is obviously paying for his sins in a previous life!!, so he and I wouldn't be 100% behind Hoddle.
  20. I imagine the funds are probably sitting in an ESCROW account with the administrator's lawyers.
  21. hmmm. CHAPS is expensive. Costs £20.
  22. Quick question: if the club folded, did the administrator stand to make a lot more money?
  23. Saints 4-1 Arsenal (Shearer's full debut)
  24. obviously meant to say don't follow Luton
  25. power. the little men in charge has small man syndrome so like to flex their muscles to show how important they are. I do feel really sorry for Luton and hope that we or anyone else follow them down that particular path.
