  1. when it went into administration
  2. Interesting reading the skates on their footymad forum. Most seem unhappy and are being realistic about HMRC's position and the fact that if Chainrai takes over that a lot of people will have been shafted and effectively they will have cheated. They also feel that this would mean Storrie would be hanging around for longer.
  3. So what happens if no work permit comes through, does Papa sit on a beach creaming in £30k a week?
  4. The whole Spanish league is in trouble. Not as bad as PL I don't think but still pretty bad. http://arsenal-mania.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=78201 also I thought there gov, either national or local, was going to help bail out some clubs.
  5. Can you run a self-supporting and successful, or rather self-supporting and the best (or at least top 4)? I think probably not.
  6. Mars, in that case send you Mrs out to do the shopping.
  7. Unless the big clubs agree to a wage cap it isn't going to change. Whether a wage cap is a restriction of trade and against EU law is another problem. And then why would the likes of Man City agree to one if they can afford to pay more than anyone else? They get an advantage over their rivals. Therefore can never see it happening.
  8. I can't understand them Blue lot about Sowah. Must have been a difficult choice between the two clubs, but look at it from his perspective: 1) He is German and young. Maybe he is missing home. 2) Hamburg vs Poopey. Hmmm, difficult to decide between the two! One finished 7th in their league (and presumably are in Europe) and the other finished bottom of the league (and are bïtching about not being allowed in Europe*). One has a capacity of over 57000 while the other just struggles to muster over 20,000. One has a UEFA Elite Steadium and one has an elite pile of carp. One had an average attendance last season of 56,278 and the other 18,249. 3) One might pay him a decent wage and the other will see how little they can pay him. As I said, must have been a tough choice for the poor lad. * AA seems to have gone a bit quiet about Europe. Do you think that with such a small squad he has been told to shut up by someone?
  9. They probably will, and I am sure Harry and Avram would like to help. But not sure it is down to them - more their respective chairmen, and I am not sure whether Gold and Levy will be overly generous, especially if there is a chance that they won't be paid anything for them. Never sure of the rules about loan players. Are you allowed 5 playing for you on the pitch (with more as reserves)? If that is the case, then getting 6 players who are fit and capable of competing in the Championship may be a little tricky. Presumably you need at least twice that number to account for injuries etc so I guess they will go down the route we took and have VERY young players. And quite frankly, who as a professional from a PL club would want to go to Poopey? I can understand those who are sub-20 wanting to go there, as it might be a great shop window for them, but anyone else........ The only way that that would happen is if they got paid a lot and that isn't (??) going to happen.
  10. I do love this figure of £15m that they have to raise. That is of course above and beyond any money they actually need to spend on getting a squad on the pitch. AA seems to want his cake and eat it. Fair enough not wanting to sell players off on the cheap, but if the buying club has to support the wages, then he really should be slightly more realistic. In the end, it is just bit of negotiating and he will go on the cheap, unless there is some sort of Dutch auction, because Poopey can't afford to keep him. But I can already envisage the bull from the press next season. Poor Poopey (with their great fans) not being able to field a full squad and reserves for their games and how we are supposed to feel sympathetic about their plight. And how plucky and brave they are. Pah! The press seem to forget that they should have been liquidated immediately when the judge said that they were trading while insolvent.
  11. Hmmm. £15k for the old E-convertible does seem quite a bit. What about a CLK convertible then? Surely that would be better than the Chrysler, although as the engine is the most important thing, then there might not be a huge difference. Did the Chrysler have a Merc chassis?
  12. I imagine that he was on a very low wage but that this would have increased for 1st team appearances, which I think is fair enough. I imagine that that would be quite a common scenario for young players who haven't proved that they can cut the mustard in the top flight.
  13. shame this was never officially released....
  14. How about a TVR? Obviously a few problems, build, reliability and a bit wild especially in the rain but think that that might be manly enough.
  15. Question to the teachers, who do (or most of them) have a much harder job than most people give them credit. I do know one or two who jokingly (or not) say that they only work as a teacher for August (ie the holidays). I guess though that these are more primary teachers. Is it fair on the pupils that the incompetent teachers are passed on to some other school (as a teacher was explaining on the news this morning)? If they are incompetent at one school, are they going to be any more competent at another, and if not, isn't this detrimental to pupils? Can they find a different level of achievement at a new school? I know that you said that they get sacked, but 18 in 40 years suggests that they don't.
  16. Thought that Robinho did well/
  17. people say Messi. Yes he has beautiful footwork, but you look at the "superstars" (or supposed ones), Messi, Rooney, Ronaldo, Kaka and see how many goals they have scored between them. What is it - 1 by Ronaldo? Not sure the superstars have really fired. This of course is not including the Spaniards like Villa. Germany and Holland often doesn't have the superstars but they seem to gel as a unit.
  18. Does anyone know the rules? I thought that a penalty goal could be given in circumstances like this. Never known one given but if it is in the rules..........!!
  19. Let's face it, we would all like to work as few hours as possible. In the private sector when overtime needs doing it works on a give and take basis. There seems little give and take in the public sector. I know that is unfair on people such as those wonderful nurses, I am more about councillors. When I was a bit younger, 6-8 weeks of the year needed about 100+ hours a week. (Person I worked with said he had had to do a 48 hour shift, which I can't imagine Mr Councillor ever doing as I am sure it would be against is Human Rights!) Harvest time doesn't wait for you and the work had to be done to process the fruit asap. We got a little bonus and watered and fed very well, and a little trip away to "celebrate" finishing. Give and take and it was a happy ship.
  20. FIFA give Nigeria's government 2 days to over turn the ban on the national side, otherwise Nigeria will be suspended from FIFA!!! Those boys at FIFA are pretty smart aren't they! Do you think that the Nigerian president really cares, as this is effectively just what he has done already!!
  21. If you want a sporty number (and don't want a new car) then the S2000 is a good choice. If you don't particularly mind not having anything too sporty then how about an old E-Class. Definitely not effeminate. I also like the Merc SL, which is a bit sportier/more expensive. Some of the early models are really quite reasonable and they should go on for ever.
  22. also, a winter break would mean a reduction in the number of teams in the PL. While the PL might well like that (and why stop at 20 teams? Why not become like the SPL and have 10!!? Hell, why not just leave the PL and join a European Super League, with no relegation), it all seems to be for the benefit of a certain number of PL clubs. Not the ones that are there to make up the numbers, and certainly not for the supporter. I think that I find the bogus excuses of players being tired the most irksome. Those in charge seem to be bringing it up now as they think that they have some validity to their argument after the **** poor display in South Africa. Those poor, poor footballers. Playing so many games a season that they are so tired. Maybe if they rested on their time off, rather than try and get into every girl's knickers or (as mentioned) play golf, they would be less tired. Maybe the cost of counting £100k a week makes you tired. My heart really does bleed for them.
  23. Anyone think that this is a good idea? While I realise that it is only the PL that are wanting it at the moment, I presume that if it is introduced, then it will work its way down the leagues. Personally I like all the games around Christmas and look forward to it. It is also when we, the paying customer, can get to more games as we are often on holiday. I do feel that the PL seem to think that the supporters are a bit of a nuisance and that there is no consideration that this is when supporters can get to more games. Is the argument that the season is too long really valid? Do players really get that tired? I can understand that it might take a while to recover from a game, but the training sessions shouldn't be too much of a burden, should it? If it was then surely they wouldn't all be playing golf in their time off.
  24. I think that I might have taken 5 days off in 20+ years of working. One was when I had my wisdom teeth out, although I could have gone back to work. One was when I had severe squits, although I did go back to work at lunch time and put in a 12 hour shift. And then I can't remember any others, although I am sure that there must be 2 or 3.
