  1. they'll make it illegal to call it Chinese whispers before they ban them. How do the poor Chinese feel? A few years ago someone apparently got upset about the phrase blackmail. Faux indignation is very boring. Getting upset about Jungle Drums is about as chippy and insecure that I have heard of in a long time. Oh what times we live in. It must be nice to be able to get upset by such minutia as it obviously means that these people's lives are so free of other worry, that they can afford to spend time on such spurious idiocies.
  2. From the article: Something doesn't quite ring true!!!!
  3. Deppo - I think that you are almost right. I still watch it, but am waning. I am not sure it is that heinous a crime to admit you watch it. The problem as I posted (and before I read Coogan) are those pathetic acolytes of Clarkson's. Coogan was somewhat more eloquent than me, but he is 100% correct about that little pip-squeak and about May. I have a friend who met Hammond and he said he was the biggest **** you could ever hope to meet. Arrogant, self-important and boring. They need to fire Hammond and possibly May, and bring back Tiff who I think has a lot more class about him. It would change the format from the puerile state that it is in now, but so what? TG is the same old formulaic ******s. The Oz version of the Ashes episode was so much better. Maybe because we hadn't really seen the presenters before, maybe because they didn't have sycophantic sheep doing the presenting. JC makes a "joke" and the other two have to pounce on it and take it further with childish remarks to make themselves look funnier when they aren't.
  4. Are you sure? I presume that he is charging the club to use the ground which I suspect would be a secured debt, plus no doubt quite a lot of his HUGE interest charges I am sure are in there somewhere. I still can't decide whether he actually has been incredibly stupid and has been stiffed, or whether this was the plan all along. One thing that he has been truthful about was his desire not to own the club., although didn't this stance change a little when they had a few results under their belt and looked as if they could push for promotion. Anyway, that is in the past. It is clear that he is not going to put any more money in as he would have done this on two occasions - one was the transfer window, and the other was when taking over. Why would you "buy" a club and then leave it in the same perilous state as it was before the take over. £16.5m in footballing terms is not huge and it would have been best to pay off the CVA quickly. As none of this is happening, I guess that we are all correct in our thinking (and even the skates can see it), that no money is going in and just money coming out. Why the FA does nothing about it is anyone's guess. Maybe when the bank makes an error with next month's wages, they might step in.
  5. I am no lawyer/accountant, but I would suspect that the players themselves would be liable, rather than the club. The club might have to pay some NI but the bulk (income tax and NI) would be for the players. However, the players aren't going to be too chuffed that the deal that they had is going to be taxed more than they thought. I guess it also rather depends if they sign deals with salaries that are nett or gross. They then might look to the club to recompense them.
  6. In 1982 we did OK. We won our 3 group games against France, Czech and the mighty Kuwait. (Goals for 6, against 1). Second round we drew both our games 0-0 and were eliminated for coming second in the group to West Germany. In 1986 we did OK. Second in our group to Morocco but got to the ¼ finals and Hand of God. 1990 Semi-finals although not overly convincing especially against Cameroon and Belgium, nor in the group games, but we still finished top. So maybe you are right and I look at the team through rose tinted glasses.
  7. Frankly, until we are in the Prem, I couldn't give a monkey. Oh I know Sky show an odd game or two from nPL and L1/2 but they do that to both keep the authorities quiet, competitors from getting it (although ITV didn't do well) and also to fill out their schedule a bit. I got rid of Sky because I have very little interest in PL games as I do not support any of the teams there. Therefore for interests sake, MotD suffices. Sky and the PL (or rather, usually but not always, the teams that are safe) are far too arrogant and need to come down a peg or two and look at the bottom of the pyramid. Take away the bottom (or let it fail) and then the top will not be able to be supported. The biggest shame since Sky came about is the demise of the national team. It has got so bad, and is so full of prima donnas, and is so boring, I hardly ever watch the matches and I certainly don't get excited with the anticipation of a forthcoming match. I did in the 1990 WC but since then........maybe a little in Portugal, but that was the nail in the coffin.
  8. As it is A Tale of Two Cities, those refer to us not them! The other part if them. Maybe not the best of times for us, as those are hopefully yet to come, but it is metaphorical.
  9. Ignoring the lack of a sense of humour for a second.... Hammond is a jumped up pip-squeak full of self-agrandisment. He obviously thought that he was being funny and as JC's little acolyte maybe he thought that he would curry favour. It wasn't subtle or overly funny and actually was just plain rude. I am surprised that it was left in the programme as it was bound to cause offense. Sack him I say, TG would be much better without him.
  10. I am not sure if it has been posted before, but Dickens's opening of A Tale of Two Cities seems very apt at the moment: It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us,......... Think that about sums it up
  11. Yes-ish. I was driving down my street at night, stopped to reverse into a parking space, I even indicated so before going into reverse. Rear parking sensors beeped a bit but they were playing up. And as I slowly reversed - bang. Got out and there was a chap in black clothes standing by the side of his bike. He was a bit shocked and asked me "hadn't you seen my lights"? As I pointed out to him he only had a rear light, he sort of accepted that he was being a plank. Buckled the wheel a bit, so I picked him up, along with his rear light, and sent him on his way.
  12. http://www.streetfire.net/video/top-gear-australia-s3-e0_2066324.htm Here is the Aussie version of the Ashes shoot out. Much much better than the UK version.
  13. I hope that they don't go out of business. Not good for football (inspite of helping our position). But....it shows that the whole of football is basically bust, not that we didn't know that. Sure some of the boys in the PL are sitting pretty, but the rest of us (maybe not us now with our owners, but if they decided to move on.....) are hanging on by our finger nails. Actually that also applies to the big boys in the PL, if the rich owners at Chelsea/ManC etc hit a bit of trouble or get bored. Sky needs to be told where to get off. Their money has helped the PL but no one else really. Oh how I wish for the old days of when I first went to the Dell (mid-70s/80s). Smaller teams (now a days) could compete although I realise Liverpool dominated.
  14. Whether you like NI or not (either personally or via his role with the Trust) is frankly irrelevant. It is overly petty of the club to bully an individual who is a loyal supporter who voices his thoughts which are often critical of the Club. What would you all say if somehow the Club got your detail and matched them up to criticism posted on here and then stopped your season ticket? Are we not allowed to be critical of the Club at all? And if anyone from the Club wants to know my details, I'll give them a call and tell them over the telephone. But on the other hand, the Club has said that he is not barred from matches and can buy on a match by match basis. So he can go to games. Which makes it even more petty - they don't like what he says so they punish him by making him buy more expensive tickets. Pathetic and a lot of self-aggrandisement going on (from all sides, although my sympathies are with NI on this one).
  15. i got a Sony BD s470 and am thinking about the various content bits. Lovefilm only seems to have the older library on offer but at a reasonable £9.99 a month. The more recent releases can be accessed via Qriocity but films are £3.49 I think, or £4.49 for HD ones. Anyone used Qriocity?
  16. LOL - who are these morons in the RVF? They seem even moronic than the EDL.
  17. Oh what a shame to see whose bottom. Does that mean that they have nothing in the pipeline???

  19. But then surely it should be the captain of France or the captain of the French football team rather than the France captain
  20. BTF - yes it should be try to win.
  21. that does seem rather pathetic.
  22. One thing that gets me going is: "Thierry Henry the France captain..... " Is this correct? Shouldn't it be the French captain?
  23. staff costs account for 57% of the budget. I am not sure where this figure of 8% of the workforce being made redundant comes from. In 2009/10 the county council employed 42.249 people. So 1,200 people comes to under 3%. Net cost of services: Pension interest cost and expected return on pensions assets was budgeted at £24.7 but was revised (and actually was) £57.7m Deficit for the year on the Income and Expenditure Account: Contribution from pensions reserve was originally budgeted at £ -6.5m but was revised (and actual) to £ -36.6m (nb the minus sign to this contribution) So there you are an increase of £60m from the pension scheme alone.
  24. Look how much pensions cost, and then you'll see why your council tax is so high and why they need to trim by £55m
