  1. Interesting comparisson between the two. I think ^ sums up the difference. As an aside, I never think that clubs that are listed work particularly well in this country. The similarity is that they are both bankers and both had financial prudence. I think that it is a great thing that Cortese is starting from the 3rd tier and working up from there. Lowe came in at the top, got big with the FA and did like the limelight. The only thing that I don't think Cortese should say is that we will be top 5. It isn't easy and might come across as arrogance, but if that is the worst of his "crimes" then that isn't too bad.
  2. Vegemite is sh*te, and the Aussies are never big enough to admit that it is far inferior to Marmite.
  3. Earl Grey if I have to have it. Wifey bought some Lapsang Souchong and that ain't going down too quickly. All tea drunk black with a bit of sugar. (Coffee white with no sugar). But enjoying a Tuborg at the moment, which I reckon beats both tea and coffee, even if it is a lager
  4. Marmite does add a good bit of flavour to a cheese sandwich. Good in gravy as well. Marmite and peanut butter......hmm! Can't stand peanut butter (and haven't had it for about 30 years) but the sweet and sour thing would be similar to the strawberry jam I guess.
  5. coffee - nice strong filter stuff
  6. I love Marmite. Didn't think much of the rather expensive Marmite XO (Extra Old). I love Marmite and strawberry jam on toast - is that strange?
  7. > My neighbor found out that her dog (a Schnauzer) could hardly hear, so she took it to the veterinarian. > The vet found that the problem was hair in the dog's ears. He cleaned both ears, and the dog could then hear fine. > The vet then proceeded to tell the lady that, if she wanted to keep this from recurring, she should go to the store and get some "Nair" hair remover and rub it in the dog's ears once a month. > The lady went to the store and bought some "Nair" hair remover. > At the register, the pharmacist told her, "If you're going to use this under your arms, don't use deodorant for a few days." > The lady said, "I'm not using it under my arms." > The pharmacist said, "If you're using it on your legs, don't shave for a couple of days." > The lady replied, "I'm not using it on my legs either. > If you must know, I'm using it on my Schnauzer." > The pharmacist says, "Well, stay off your bicycle for about a week."
  8. From Appendix 1. Wages and salaries 9,866,675 PAYE & NI 8,890,182 for the 8 months Feb10 - Oct10, so that's £18.757m. I suspect looking at those figures that the wages that the players earn are all nett of tax (and extrapolating for a 12 month period this is over £28m although I realise that some expensive players are off the books). nice also to see that the club picks up player fines! But what I don't understand, and I am sure some accountant can put me right on this, is that they include player sales and those out on loans in the football income, but don't mention player purchases or cost of loans brought in on the overheads. Loans might be included in wages, but I doubt it. Also there would be some agents' fees to pay, and they don't feature in the books. As I say, I am no accountant, but if you are going to include player sales and loans on one side of the balance sheet, surely they should also be included on the other side.
  9. breakfast = coffee & fag
  10. I think Ben Haim has to play to get in the shop window otherwise once his contract runs out, no one is going to buy him. Maybe he has decided that £36k a week for another 2 years isn't as much as he could earn with the remaining 5 years or so of his playing career.
  11. yes it is...and at the first court case, the judge said that they were insolvent yet let them continue to trade, which is a very strange thing to do.
  12. Apologies not apologys. Spell check apps are available on browsers these days.
  13. more enjoyable than the few PL games I have seen this season
  14. as long as the winner of this wins the final
  15. Why would an upmarket marina and apartment complex want to be on top of a football club? I presume that you were meaning an upmarket apartment complex, which would sort of tie in with the marina idea. People who live in upmarket apartments would probably not be so interested in Saints.
  16. I know that there is to a certain extent a Jewish cabal, but Abramovich isn't that dumb. What possible good could he bring as DoF?
  17. not sure Avram will be given the opportunity to make a hat-trick. Who in their right mind would give him a job?
  18. I reckon wee George has some dirt on Cameron
  19. should MPs be paid at all?
  20. To a certain extent he has a point (although not about weeding out the gene pool). You have to make choices in life and if you have some disposable income you have to ask yourself whether you are happy with the NHS and whether private medical insurance is necessary. What would you rather have, Sky TV and a session or two down the boozer or private medical insurance. It also helps "subsidise" the NHS, although I stand to be corrected. Some posts ago, someone asked me what sort of changes should be brought in in response to me saying that the NHS doesn't work well in a lot of areas. Here's a couple of interesting article: http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/news/article.html?in_article_id=509445&in_page_id=2 http://www.derbygripe.co.uk/nhs.htm And didn't some government, can't remember who says what, say that they were going to reintroduce the ward sister? Is this ever going to happen. And are 650 NHS managers worthy of receiving higher pay than the PM?
  21. Looking at Grant's record at Pompey and WHU, it reads something like..... Played 62 Won 12 Draw 18 Lost 32 54 points out of a possibly 186 (an average of 0.87 points per game) Why oh why did WHU appoint him? He did appallingly at Poopey, so why did they expect anything better?
  22. I always am amazed at how little regard the Israelis give world opinion when they are in such a precarious position.
  23. Fact of the matter is that I don't go to SMS for the food (or drink). It is very much of secondary importance.
  24. Agree. As I don't like my Carling the temperature they hand it out at, an ale would be much better.
