  1. Might as well add Morgan to that list as well. Arsenal want him supposedly. Surprised no one in for Clyne, Lallana or Fox.
  2. So Dani to Juve, Gaston to Napoli and Shaw to Man U - are we going to have any players left come the close of the January transfer window?
  3. I can't see how people can be so whimsical and change the team they support so easily. A bit like having a second team (well at least one that plays in the same division as you).
  4. The problem with the Big 4, is that most supporters expect to win week in, week out. If you do happen to win week in, week out then after a while, I imagine it gets a little tedious. I know that that is in extremis and doesn't actually happen, but I can't think of anything worse than following Celtic at the moment. OK you might slip up, but what excitement do you get from beating everyone else in the league when you are expected to? Saints - well we aren't expected to win the whole time, and given the history over the past few decades, we are more than capable of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. When we win, I get a real buzz, whether it be Crystal Palace or Liverpool. Of course I would like to win every game the whole time, which of course won't happen. I hope that we can join the "Big 4" or 6 or however many, mainly so that we can dilute their rather staid domination that has happened for the past few years. Was listening to talkSPORT last night, and one of the jounos said that he would love to see Saints finish in the CL positions, not because he particularly liked us, but to make things more interesting.
  5. Red Cafe seem to be much more realistic and down to earth and quite interesting views. There seems to be little "we're going to smash them"
  6. I expect that they will beat us, but reading some of their forums, I would agree that it might not be (as you point out) comfortably.
  7. I can't remember which ex-pro was saying it recently, but he also highlighted the role of the YTS/boot boy that seemingly no longer exists. While hoovering the corridors doesn't make you a more skilful player, it does foster the right ethos which seems to have disappeared to be replaced with contracts worth thousands a week.
  8. Boruc feigned injury so that he wasn't responsible for knocking out England. He has to live and work here and I wouldn't want to be a hate figure, especially over a meaningless game for him. Well that's how my conspiratorial mind worked!!
  9. Interesting to see the odds that Sky Bet are giving... Man U - 8/15 Draw - 3/1 Saints - 11/2
  10. Big = because he is over 6ft1 and people consider that big Lump = because anyone who isn't overly quick and is big (tall & wide) is called a lump Having said that, there is more to it than that. If you take Sheringham, who was over 6ft, I can't recall him ever being called a lump. Maybe RL did carry more weight, but to me, it's more about people having to denigrate Saints and their players, not maliciously but more flippantly. We all know how the press and such like view the club, so obviously our players can't be any good, so the superlatives are reserved for the "Big 6" clubs and their players.
  11. Agree with WALOBs. Quite happy if we don't do that well and show a bit of backbone and pick up a foul/card here or there.
  12. It would help if they had a different name like Sun / NotW had as then some people might be convinced/fooled that they were separate entities. The Sun and Sunday Sun (or what ever it is now called - only bought it once because Michelle Keegan was on p3 last Sunday and I wanted to see what they said about Saints) have a name too similar to fool the populous into thinking they are separate.
  13. Does anyone really take DM seriously? I have known a few the intimate details of a few stories that they have run, and the truth is very far from what they have written. And this is when they aren't trying to be malicious. So I do wonder whether any of their stories are accurate. But with this Milliband thing, I don't know why they sent an undercover reporter to the 29th floor of some hospital building to snoop on a Milliband's uncle's memorial. The next general election is 18 months or so away, and the dirty tricks are starting in earnest. UKIP has received a wee bit from DM, but this is far too personal and comes across as nothing less than being spiteful.
  14. I look at that - David Cameron's father built up legal offshore funds in Panama and Geneva - see the word legal and gave up reading.
  15. Not going to read through all the posts, so apologies if this has been covered. I heard someone on the radio asking whether it was really different from the continued comments/questions about Cameron, his father and upbringing? One is considered a "toff" and the other a "commie". Both have influenced the way their children think, so where is the difference? I would quantify that by saying I do not agree with the headline about Milliband's father, especially as he isn't here to defend himself and anyone who went to war in a boat, can't really hate this country, can they? On the same radio programme (I think it was on R5L after PMQs) someone mentioned that it wouldn't reflect well on Milliband as you don't really want your PM (or potential one) being so easily riled and upset. Again, my personal feelings is that this was all rather unnecessary by the Mail.
  16. It's funny how your past catches up to you when you suddenly begin to earn a big wage. Of course, this might not be the case here, as I/we have no idea what is going on, and apart from wanting our centre forward to be happy, I don't want to know what is going on. Have to agree with Buctootim that dirty laundry shouldn't be aired.
  17. I was there not so long ago and thought it average and won't be going back again in a hurry, at least not at the prices they charge. Maybe that is a little harsh as the food was OK but nothing special and if anything, a little bland. And for an establishment that sells itself as a wine lover's place, you might expect it to offer something that is good value rather than a large list (admittedly very well put together) but with the usual huge restaurant mark-ups. Maybe I am fussy because the last time I went to the Mill at Gordleton it was absolutely horrendous. However, driving past it on a regular basis, I have recently thought that I should try again.
  18. What do we need? About another 60 points should do the trick
  19. Davis didn't cost £12m either. JRod I doubt would have doubled in price but like others think, JWP might well go for that. Put it this way, if Juve or whichever Italian club came in for Gaston with a £12m offer, how many would refuse it?
  20. Tacoma Bridge - the one that oscillated itself to death (and along similar lines, one in Russia that didn't collapse )
  21. I like Monsieur Eiffel's aqueduct at Briare (over the Loire). Obviously nothing like the Pont du Gard http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/79/Pont_Canal_de_Briare_45250.jpg Couple more: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=The+Wind+and+Rain+Bridge&es_sm=93&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=opZIUvGgLIuq7QbolYH4Bw&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=1920&bih=965&dpr=1 Wind & Rain Bridge (China) https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Ponte+Vecchio+Florence&es_sm=93&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=4JZIUpe2Dojm7AaH4oGQCQ&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=1920&bih=965&dpr=1 Ponte Vecchio (Florence)
  22. I was thinking about Chamakh. From where I was sat, above the half way line and almost in the clouds, it looked like a penalty but that was because I was so far away. IF a penalty had been given, then surely AB would also have been sent off, and that was my initial fear, so surely the same fate should have befallen Chamakh. I thought Atkinson lost control for a few minutes after this, but generally he was fine. Loved his little lecture to Chamakh and 2 other Palace players when they started arguing amongst themselves.
  23. 7 from 4? I've done 3 from 1 so guess that I've got a better ratio.
  24. Possibly because 15 dishes on the side of a building makes it look hideous. Secret of life is to read the lease properly before you sign it, rather than bring up certain clauses afterwards.
  25. I'll go if I have a proper ding-dong with the Mrs, otherwise not too interested in watching the 2nd XI play in a competition we aren't taking seriously enough to field the first team. £10 or £18, not sure that would be the deciding factor, as got parking, travel, food & drink etc etc to add on top, so can spread out the £8 difference.
