Micky Adams. Did well early on with Brighton and Fulham. Not done so well recently, but as I've said before history tells you very little about most managers.

3 recent PL teams down to League One - Coincidence?
lumpofshipperley replied to Saint Martini's topic in The Saints
When it comes to managers it's a bit of a lottery really, no matter their history. Redknapp is thought as a genius now, but he relegated us when we had a half decent squad. It didn't help that he said he thought they were all sh** though. Burley was a coup at the time, but scraped us into the playoffs then effed off when we were on the slide. On the flipside, Strachan came from relegated Coventry and did wonders. Only a handful of managers in the land have the midas touch. The others get lucky. -
Strong opinion! I can't see how he is a fraud, not heard of any dressing room dissent, and nowadays practically everything disunites the fans! The kids idea was Lowe's, in an effort to drive down costs and Wotte and Portaloo were brought in to execute that idea. Frankly if we had all the players from last season we'd have gone into administration by January. Football's a business and the financial noose has been hanging around our necks since we've been relegated. The defence has been cack since the relegation season to be absolutely fair. If you look at last season's team that escaped relegation and this season's then it was always going to be hard. The only way you can compare would be between Wotte and Portaloo and on that account Wotte wins on every count. I think he's done ok, given the team's form when he took over. He comes across with some ego, but frankly that's what you want your manager to have. The football has been better, but the defending was just as bad and that's ultimately what has cost us this season. We do not defend as a team, and probably haven't done since WGS left.

FA to investigate a "reported missing £40m"
lumpofshipperley replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
The bit about the £40m is such a throwaway comment, it's unbelievable. Don't believe the papers - half the time they talk such cack it's untrue (literally!!). -
League deduct 10 Points - Will apply in L1 Next Season
lumpofshipperley replied to Danny's topic in The Saints
Any other year (outside of the credit crunch) we would not have gone into administration. Better run clubs then ours have gone under and will go under in the future. However smaller clubs have survived and gone on to thrive. That's the hope. You have to remember that we aren't special and we never have been. -
Lowe, Wilde and Crouch have all lost millions in shares. Whatever you say about them they are financially the biggest losers of us all.
-
In the end he takes his share of the blame like the rest of us. Too many of us ask for money to be spent without thinking how that actually affects things long term. We know now!!!
-
Fact: we are in administration. Fact: the players wages were revealed and now it's been proved that they were unsustainable. LC did what we all wanted and gambled on us going up and he's probably the biggest loser of us all financially. It was brave but it didn't work.

Wilde and Lowe have just been escorted from the premises
lumpofshipperley replied to exit2's topic in The Saints
I'd rather have a club to support than no club at all. People who disagree are a bit silly. They get wound up about Lowe for 10 years, now he's gone, the club goes and what else is there??? Nothing to get mad about, nothing to get excited about, nothing to cheer, no one to boo. My life doesn't revolve around SFC, but it does make it a helluva lot more entertaining! There is no heaven gentlemen. It's just very boring after death. -
Sign of the times. Banks are pulling overdrafts on loads of companies - many with good profits and prospects, but banks see cash as king at the moment. They're in no risk mode. I expect a lot more to be wound up, before the year is out. There's absolutely no money in football outside of the top flight. Mugs game.
-
Hang on. The squad was better last year and we almost got relegated. Crouch was at the helm if I recall. Soooo if we did keep Pearson and Crouch and things still went tits up on the pitch (as they did last year) we'd just have got into administration sooner! My point is that short of promotion, we'd have gone into administration. Some blame lack of investment, but who the hell is going to risk their money buying a footy club? It's a hiding to nothing most of the time.
-
It's because Lowe has no money and no other f*cker wanted to put any in, which is why we're in such a situation! Let's face it the signs were there from the start of this season. We needed some decent crowds and a reduced cost base just to keep afloat. We got one right but not the other. Last season was where it went tits up for me. We had the players and should have been chasing a promotion place. We couldn't afford to do that for another season - effectively we'd shot our load - and prospects are looking bad this season, plus lending is tight, so the bank chose to forclose. Simple economics - no success equals no money. It's a truism for us and 95% of the professional clubs in the country. It's like the end of the film of the bridge too far - in hindsight, at what point did we over extend ourselves?

I love top trumps.
-
Why are people on here so stupid?
-
Let none of these mugs fool yer - it was world class!!! What made it so impressive was that he had just made a decent save, then had to dive quite a way and get low enough to touch the ball just as it was bouncing, without having time to set himself properly, which is why he sort of dived oddly.
-
Hang on we had Saga, Rasiak and the all the rest of them last year and we almost got relegated! How anyone can make such bold and frankly ridiculous statements is beyond me!
-
Won't be a problem with the pitch but whether you want to make the drive is another matter. The A27 is almost impassable this morning according to Radio Solent. Apparently the snow that settles on the covers over the pitch actually stops the pitch from freezing. Man, I think I even bored myself with that last comment...
-
The problem is we were making a loss last season and again this season even after player cuts. How can you keep that run going? Woolworths anyone???
-
Of the two options, I'm more on the side of Lowe, which probably makes me a Lowe luvvie. I'm realistic. Lowering cost is the number one consideration. I'd rather support the club as it is instead of not having a club to support.
-
He had his chance. Didn't do any better than Lowe. Doesn't really matter who's in charge out of the 2 parties, we'd still be in a the same mess. In my opinion, if Crouch was still in charge and had offered Pearson a contract, we'd be in administration by now.
-
More impressed with Wotte than Jan. Did not have a clue what Jan was talking about most of the time. His grasp of the English language was quite poor. Not sure how he was ever understood in the dressing room. Wotte communicates a lot better and that has got to be better for the team. Fingers crossed we've got someone who can take the team on a little and get us out of trouble. I'm more hopeful today. Still not sure why we don't play all the experienced players over the younglings though? I tend to think that the manager has a quota of better paid players he can have in the squad?!?!

My vote is for Micky Adams. Why is not more popular? Did well at Fulham, Brighton and Leicester. Plus he's got a better slightly better point average than Dowie. Adams stats - 633 points from 435 games = 1.46 pts/game Dowie stats - 413 points from 286 games = 1.44 pts/game Strachan stats (excl Celtic) - 415 points from 325 games = 1.28 pts/game *stats from soccerbase.com
-
Interesting stats, but doesn't take into account draws. That'll make a difference. Any stats on average points per game???

List of crazyness that has happened with lowe in charge
lumpofshipperley replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Saints
No what happens is that ex football stars with NO experience get hired to manage premiership teams. With mixed success. What does that tell you eh? The answer is not much but is just as valid as your Ince example.
