Surman was largely anonymous today, which can't have helped him display to the world that he is ready for Prem football. If he had stood out at all then fair enough, but I can't remember anything he did today or hearing / seeing his name once?

It was clear he had two feet off the ground. It wasn't a two-footed challenge, in that only one foot made contact, but it was a two footed lunge that resulted in the full length of his boot going into the shin.

Come on, be fair. With 10 men, one striker and 7 youth team players playing against a Man Utd team that's not far off full strength, that's pretty damn good. If two seasons ago we put our reserve team against the same Utd team you'd have been saying how well they did to achieve this. It's sad but it seems that nobody can give Saints any credit for anything any more. That's not what football is about.

Match stats from today say a lot. Shows we got forwarded and created a couple of chances and had a couple of shots on goal. But also shows how seriously outclassed we were with only 33% possession! Also proves how terrible we are defensively as we allowed them 13 shots on target! Too true. We did 'OK' considering we had 10 men, 7 of which were youth team players. We got forward at times and didn't look as stupid as I expected. Totally outclassed and outplayed, but we did enough and had some brief bright moments that Lowe and Co. will claim proves we are improving.

Absolutely, the defence in particular has been a huge cause for concern. I don't think it's been any worse than usual, but just highlighted by an excellent team.

We have had a shot on goal though. Let's not pretend this has been a good game for us, but we should at least acknowledge that we have had some brief, bright moments.

The fact that a 10 man team consisting of 7 youth team players, can break away and get a shot in against Utd proves we haven't been terrible. We have had a few really good breaks, a few shots on goal, a few shots that have been dragged wide also. If we were as bad as you seem to make out, none of this would have happened. As always, we have not had the final touch or quality in shooting, but we have gotten forward well at times.

Yup, more times in the first half though and not many, but yes. We have also dragged a couple wide. Games all over now, but we haven't been too bad going forward, it's just our defensive side that's been as shocking as always.

Seconded. We haven't looked as stupid as I feared when going forward, but every time they attack it's like rabbits in headlights. And set pieces are just a disaster.

He is causing us problems! He is too keen on getting forward and is leaving Nani in too much space. Even when we're on the attack, Skacel - our left back - is moving forward too early, so when Utd counter Nani has an easy job.
