If we were looking to buy, SRL, Jason and Morgan now?
RobM replied to chocco boxo's topic in The Saints
The question wasn't how much we would sell for, but how much we would buy them for if they were not a Saints player, so Punch's contract situation isn't relevant. IMO, Rickie is £4m, Punch £6m and Mogan £10m. -
I expected nothing as the first time I knew he was being interviewed was this thread. The article doesn't print the question asked that led to that answer either, so it's impossible to form an expectation. In general terms, I don't expect players to say negative things about NC, Punch is the perfect example of what not to do. But I equally don't expect them to lie, as if they don't like him it's still perfectly possible to answer the question politely and professionally without signing his praises about being a very, very good man.

It is entirely possible to speak about somebody you don't like without calling them things like that, or being negative in any way, so I see no reason why Seaborne would blatantly lie if he doesn't like Cortese. He could have swerved the question, gave a bland answer or simply not answered at all. Perhaps he does like him and that's his honest opinion. His comments about how Cortese treated him while he was in hospital are very clear, so why do you need to think he is making that up and answering because of his contract with SFC? I'm sure in your life you've had to answer questions about somebody you don't like without being negative. We all have.

Even worse is retards who don't bother reading posts on a forum and launch into a personal attack against somebody who made a very clear point about the Polish international team. Even worse is when they do it in a stupid colour.

I'm sure there will be a few decent jobs available come the end of the season. Leeds might be a decent one.
-
I'm less convinced. I'd agree if we could get in someone with proven quality, somebody who has done it over and over again at this level, who could drop right into the team. But they're rare, especially for semi-sensible money in Jan, so it's going to be hard to find somebody a step-up from what we already have. We create chances, have good attempts on goal, we're just not clinical enough. That will come I'm sure, especially for players like JRod who have age and time on their side.
-
Absolutely agree. Plus, think how terrible Villa are feeling right now. A loss is a loss and nobody wants bad press and attention like Villa will now get.
-
I hope not, I think Adkins would be better suited to a club with a longer-term vision and some decent owners. I agree with SNSUN though, I think they'll stick with Lambert, they just need to add some experience which I'm sure they could find for the same price as sacking Lambert.
-
Likewise. But equally, I did see his move as a sideways step. Norwich are on the up, Villa are struggling, either of them have the potential to achieve decent things or drop out of the Prem entirely.
-
I'm going to make the most of this opportunity while I can... Would Lambert really want to drop down the league?
-
The main thing I care about from this game is the performance. I'm not expecting any points, but a good team performance will do wonders for us. That said, if we're going to adopt a high-tempo, high-pressure game and get in their faces, it's not too far fetched to think we could get something. Stranger things have happened than Saints beating Man Utd.

Then please shut up, you're boring. Sometimes when you went on a windup it would be properly funny (especially when you used your superb talent of seeming almost serious), you're now boring.

Who we've been linked with for January thread...
RobM replied to Saint Garrett's topic in The Saints
NC's dream is to have academy players as the basis for top-flight team, not necessarily English academy players. As Phil aludes to, we have put Jaidi in a position in Africa specifically aimed at attracting players that might have otherwise gone to France, so that immediately rules out any dream that NC wants primarily English academy players. Most top-flight teams do it - they scout young players, sign them up as soon as possible and manage their development either in-house or from afar. -
Now we've signed Forren, I'm less convinced with every game we play that we need signings this window. In the summer we do, no doubt about it, we need cover on the wings and in each fullback position. But in Jan, where time is limited, the team is in full-flow and doing better with each game and as individuals players are improving, I'm less convinced. Just a few weeks ago I would have said GK was a priority as I didn't trust Boruc, but he has improved to such an extent I'm not concerned now. Guly has proven he can do a job in cover and SDR offers little, but at least allows us to bring other players off with 15-20mins to spare as an alternative option - he doesn't do much right, but he doesn't do much wrong either. For me, this season is consolidation and I think we have enough to stay in the Prem. Next season is aiming for a top-10 finish, so we'll need to improve in some areas. That's more of a concern than this window.

IMO too. I'll always have respect for everything he has done for this club, that won't and shouldn't ever change. But he needs to shut up sometimes, his views are indeed outdated, unwelcome and unhelpful. Rather than try and stay relevant and important, he should be supportive of what the club is trying to do.
-
Definitely our No.1 and definitely getting better and better with every game. Last nights performance was superb, very hard to fault and save the point for us on a number of occasions.
-
You've missed the point. This thread isn't about the Liebherrs, nor Adkins, nor Southampton FC. This thread is a shot at Turks and an attempt to pull him up on a point TDD disagrees with and thinks deserves public attention in the hope everyone will join in and point and laugh at Turks. It could easily have been a reply to the post in which Turks made this comment, but that doesn't get as much attention.
-
Not quite true, but I think I know your point. Fergie runs the footballing show, not the business show. Fergie didn't list the company, Fergie doesn't run the entire backoffice, Fergie doesn't manage the clubs debts, he works for and with the board. He is an employee. He has had to sell players because the company insisted, I'm sure he has failed to sign players because the board refused to pay out for them. The difference is he (and Wenger, in the case of Arsenal) are free to identify their own signings and then let the board work the rest out, if at all possible. That's not the case with Chelsea and that hasn't harmed them. It doesn't seem to be the case with us, but it hasn't harmed us either. So long as it's working and we're moving forward, I won't lose too much sleep over who is signing players.

I don't see the change in manager having an impact on the names leaving. We know there are some who aren't good enough, some who just aren't going to get game time and some younger players that might not make the grade. I don't see MP coming onboard changing this really. Those who are good enough will have a part to play. If we achieve the success we're aiming for, even better players will come in and may push out currently good enough players, but that would be the case with Adkins as much as MP. Time will tell I guess.

We waited years for a Chairman who would stay out of the press, keep quiet, spend and invest money where it was needed, make difficult decisions without letting fans dictate things and do what is in the best long-term interests of the club, not himself. We now have that. While we're still moving forwards I'm happy - even though I disagree with and dislike decisions like sacking Adkins. If this stops and we start moving backwards, I'll change my opinion, but that hasn't happened yet. -10 in L1 to a safe Premiership spot and continued investment to secure it is certainly moving forward. There will be decisions we disagree we, some we hate, some that make us very angry, but if they are done for the right reasons it's hard to feel to upset.
-
No. Not in a million years no. Redknapp would get short-term results and bugger off, causing more instability. If everything that has been said about newbie is to be believed (time will tell), he will get results in the long term that match the clubs ambition.

Because this is a football forum, where everyone knows all the facts about everything.

Get SISA to do it, if they can afford some new crayons.

This. Very sensible post. I'm not sure you'll find anybody who agrees with the decision, but we're here to support Southampton FC regardless of who manages, owns or runs the business.
