  1. http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/14215451.Drinkers__disappointed__as_pub_suddenly_shuts/ Always thought this was still a popular place? I suppose it is getting sold off for flats... Like that the 'some bloke nicked a urinal' incident makes the story. I was actually in there that evening when that happened (no it wasn't me). Bloke came in with a rucksack. Ordered a half. Went to the bog. Unscrewed the urinal from the wall - put it is his rucksack and had it away out of the side door onto Kingsway. Someone noticed it had gone and the staff checked the CCTV. Nobody could quite believe that he actually did nick a used pub urinal. The landlord was a bit PO'ed at the time but the story made the national press and the pub ended up with a lot of free publicity because of it.
  2. Did the Chicago Marathon in Oct 2015. Recommended. If you do the lottery at https://www.chicagomarathon.com/participant-information/registration/ then you are meant to have about a 60/40 chance of getting a place without having to do any sponsorship etc. Registration is open March 15th - April 12th. This is better than the New York one that is meant to be about a 20/80 chance. For anyone thinking of doing a running holiday in the USA then the Chicago one is a great event. Well organised and you do a big 26 mile loop that starts and ends right in the heart of downtown by the lake. A great way to see a lot of the city. I have over-rested since that but may do a few more races this year. See what happens...
  3. Been going through my old pics. I've got tons of pics with Malc in. I may put some up later. The whole 'Philly Saint' got out of hand quite quickly. The top pic below is of Malc and Paul Belverstone when he worked for Meridian. Meridian did a full feature on him including filming him arriving at his house, then down the pub before a game and interviewing his mates etc. These pics were taken at the Rat & Parrott (pub next door to the Mayflower) on March 16 2002 (2-2 v Leicester). I could have sworn I had a rip of the Meridian feature but haven't found it yet. [/img] [/img]
  4. A lot of us knew Malc from Saints games. When he moved to Philadelphia for work he never requested the fame of 'Philly Saint' but the media picked up on it. Shared many a pint or 10 with him before/during/after a game. Sad news.

    RIP Lemmy

Did Motorhead do a bad song? Am mainly into Punk but could always handle a bit of Motorhead. Great metal/Punk crossover. A few decent lyrics chucked in as well. Not many true rock 'n' roll legends left nowadays. They are all all dropping... Could pick many a song to link up but this nails a lot of things:
  6. Saints to beat Arsenal. We can then enjoy seeing knobs like this all over the internet. VENGER OUT! VENGER OUT!
  7. All I want for xmas is... plus plenty of ammo mom!
  8. Back in real-world America this is how they settle disputes at a town council meeting to see who is going to be the next sheriff. Nobody got shot though so all is good.
  9. For those living in the USA: If Saints do ever play a pre-season over here would you def go? Regardless of where it is? Where I am then somewhere like Chicago, Indianapolis, Cincinnati or St Louis would be easiest but I'd prob make the effort to go somewhere miles away like Seattle or Boston, MA. In a way I'd prefer it in a place(s) I haven't been before. The good thing about friendlies is that the day out can't really be ruined by the game. Would be a good trip regardless.
  10. Like a lot of others I knew 'Jim' to nod to and over the years had a few pints and chats with him at various games/events. Didn't mind getting his hands dirty and I found him very knowledgeable about a lot of things. R.I.P.
  11. I've heard from various sources that they are seriously thinking of changing the name from Southampton Football Club to Southampton Soccer Club. Mainly to aid the growth of the club in the USA. Interesting one. I guess it wouldn't be a totally bad thing and it would definitely get us some publicity.
  12. It's the first ever Sunday game live on NBC (think BBC/ITV) in the USA: http://worldsoccertalk.com/2015/10/19/liverpool-southampton-to-be-nbc-networks-first-ever-sunday-premier-league-game-on-tv/ Due to the clocks changing in the UK a week before they do in the USA then the 2nd half is up against the NFL. Just another reason to do the f######rs. 4-1 to Saints. Gonna be a good'un.
  13. 'There's only one United' Someone change the title of this thread FFS. I think we'll win on Sunday. Don't rate them at all. 3-0 to Saints.
  14. If Man Utd are after Mane can't we just fob them off with Elia instead? I bet most of their board/fans wouldn't know the difference.
  15. http://prosoccertalk.nbcsports.com/2015/08/10/nbc-sports-agrees-to-six-year-extension-as-exclusive-home-of-premier-league-in-the-us/ 'The partnership will be extended through the 2021-22 Premier League season and once again all 380 PL matches will be available annually on multiple NBCUniversal platforms' Result. Every Prem game live on TV for another 6 years. Best make sure Saints don't go down then! No chance of that of course :-)
  16. Gutted Mane couldn't put one of those late chances away. That said a draw was prob fair. One of their handball-in-the-area claims could def have been given on a different day. Their 2nd goal was just a classic, very well executed breakaway. The ultimate way to punish Yoshidas miss from point blank (you can say 'yes' it was a good save but you gotta score there...). Good that we had a defender up there in that position though. We were going for it most of the game. Targett getting slagged a bit? FFS he ain't the starter and is very much at the beginning of his career. A great back-up to have. Could be a lot worse. Disappointed that we only got a draw away at Newcastle after being behind. We've def come a long way...
  17. Don't do it. You'll top yourself when the 8th goes in. A few years back home to Swindon. A mate had a decent bet on 4-0 to Saints. Probably the most gutted person in the ground when it went 5-0. Ended 5-1 but by then their late pen didn't matter....
  18. North Sunderland 0 Saints 3 Cédric, Mané & Pellè to score as they have all have an 'e' with a squiggle above it in their name. 3 goals. 3 points. Top of the league. Bring it on. Seriously - can't see anything other than an easy win tomorrow.
  19. No - he left to go and play for Forest Green Rovers in The Conference back in January. Paul Telfer was the Indy assistant coach but left in June. Don't think he went anywhere else - just got the tin-tack when the head coach (Juergen Sommer) left as well.
  20. If you are in Indy this weekend then the Indy Eleven are at home at 7.30pm on Sat Aug 8 ( http://www.indyeleven.com/schedule ). They play at the Michael A. Carroll Stadium ('The Mike') which is close to downtown (1101 West New York Street Indianapolis, IN 46202). No Saints connections (that I know of) at the moment though. You'd just have to pretend. Interesting that Guly didn't make it in the MLS. It ain't quite the 'Sunday Retirement League' that people make it out to be.
  21. We could have done this for the Indy Eleven (Indianapolis NASL team). They had Corby Moore (Southampton academy) playing for them and Paul Telfer (played for Saints in the 2003 FA Cup Final) was the assistant head coach. They have now both left though! Def up for a meet at a game sometime though. How about going to see the Cincinnati Saints sometime? ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cincinnati_Saints )
  22. Anyone NOT planning on going to this one and saving their time/money for the potential group stages? Thought not. With reliable cars and satNav nowadays then it's prob easier getting to Arnhem (7 hours from Southampton) than it was to get up north in days gone by. It ain't much further than Newcastle on the Sunday. If Saints win the first leg 8-0 then anyone plan on flogging their hotel/ticket?
  23. The MLS released their player salaries the other day: http://www.mlsplayers.org/images/July%2015,%202015%20Salary%20Information%20-%20By%20Club.pdf Guly is on a base of $120,000 with a guaranteed salary of $135,000 (about £87,000). Per season. What do most Saints players make nowadays? 'I've always dreamed of playing in the English Premier League' - when X player blindly says this then they ain't joking are they...
  24. The new FPL prices came out today (http://fantasy.premierleague.com/). This is how they have priced up the Saints players: £8.0 Pellè (FWD) £8.0 Mané (MID) £7.0 Tadic (MID) £7.0 Rodriguez (FWD) £6.0 Ward-Prowse (MID) £6.0 Long (FWD) £6.0 Elia (MID) £6.0 Juanmi (FWD) £5.5 Schneiderlin (MID) £5.5 Bertrand (DEF) £5.5 Fonte (DEF) £5.5 Djuricic (MID) £5.0 Hesketh (MID) £5.0 Forster (GKP) £5.0 Cédric (DEF) £5.0 Davis (MID) £5.0 Stekelenburg (GKP) £4.5 Mayuka (FWD) £4.5 Yoshida (DEF) £4.5 Wanyama (MID) £4.5 Davis K (GKP) £4.5 Martina (DEF) £4.5 Reed (MID) £4.5 Gardos (DEF) £4.0 Targett (DEF) The pricing is quite fair actually. Hard to pick out an obvious nailed starter at a bargain price.
