Just hope we play an attacking formation. Go there to win. Not look for a draw. The first half at Arsenal last year was perhaps the last time we've been truly outclassed. We sat back and they mullered us. Take it to them and then we'll see how good they are. We'll also see how good we are. 3-1 to Saints. The win will be for Glenn Cockerill. We hate Davis!

Based on the first half of Man Utd v Arsenal I reckon Saints will rest a few key players for the trip to Highbury in a couple of weeks. Keep them fresh for the tough games ahead.
-
I like your thinking. I'll def have a pint of that. Man Utd to win will do. We can beat Arsenal by more than 1 to go top. Like others have said this is all a bit weird. Wanting top teams to lose cos it matters to Saints. Come on Sunderland. Gonna be a long 20 mins here...

Did anyone do the very first GSR when it was in Southampton in 1990? Or the 2nd one (1st one in Pompey) in 1991? Are the results for these up anywhere on the web? I can't find them. This ( http://www.greatrun.org/Results/Default.aspx ) just goes back to 2005.

I like the NFL but can't get into the College Football. Marching bands and polls to decide who the best teams are. No promotion/relegation and about 40 'cup finals' (bowls) at the end of the season. I just don't get it. Anyone on here live somewhere where one of the big teams play? Have you got into it? Personally I love the time the English football is on over here. Get up at the weekend and watch lives games. Especially with this NBC deal. It's brilliant. As long as somebody out there is watching it then all is good by me...

Sat Nov 2 2013. Stoke v Saints at 10am CT (clocks have changed so it's an hour later than usual). 4 of us will be in Chicago when this game is on. Anyone up for a few beers and watching the game somewhere? Will prob end up at the Fado (near downtown & a CTA station): https://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF-8&q=Fado+Irish+Pub+and+Restaurant&fb=1&gl=us&hq=fado&hnear=0x880e2c3cd0f4cbed:0xafe0a6ad09c0c000,Chicago,+IL&cid=0,0,1868537452192621664&ei=mDdlUpCQNKGx2QWf8IH4Ag&ved=0CLEBEPwSMA0 If anyone has a better recommendation then please say. Fulham v Man Utd is on at the same time so I don't expect we'll get sound. Anyone know of a Stoke bar in Chicago (I'm pretty sure there isn't a Saints one?) where it would be the main game?

It's the same round here. Nobody really knows much (or cares about) the Prem. However you could also say this about a lot of sports. Can't remember the last time I heard someone talk about the NHL here either. The ratings are what counts and at the moment NBC seem quite happy with them (in public anyway). For me it's the timezone that kills it. It's very hard to get people excited about 'the big game' at 10am in the morning. Most bars ain't even open when the games are on so that whole 'down the pub for the game' culture ain't gonna happen in most towns. People are funny - I think a lot of them would get drawn into it if they saw a lot of people watching & enjoying it. This isn't going to happen though. Perhaps the KO times can be changed to suit the US TV market?

Post Match Reaction: Manchester United 1-1 SAINTS
Rut replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
I disagree. Man Utd look far from potential champions and they actually DO have them up front! Despite the late equalizer (and them cracking the bar just after they went 1-0 up) I'm actually a bit gutted. They were there for the taking today I thought. We are good. -
Gutted for the people who booked trains/flights/hotels. The club could get themselves some good publicity by helping these people out (I mean we ain't talking 1000's of people/pounds here). Prove you've forked out non-refundable stuff and even if the club just dished out some signed shirts, free tickets etc that would be better than 'it ain't our fault'.

I'd love to catch up with a lot of people (who I know will be there) but I'd much rather do that under different circumstances. I'll raise a glass or 2 from over here. Def have a few at a Saints' game next time I'm over. I'll bring the bottle of water to pass around when the stewards ain't looking. You going to put anything (ie a reef of flowers) on his seat at the next home game?

B-A-Y B-A-Y B-A-Y-C-I-T-Y with an R-O double-L E-R-S Bay City Rollers are the best! Only Gord could get away with singing that. Quality song. Details of his funeral here (Red 'n' White flowers are requested): http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/announcements/deaths/deaths/10732592.GORDON_PITMAN/ mirrorcarp - can't believe the last time you saw him was as you were getting chucked out. If it had been Gord with the hipflask the steward would prob have come over with a bottle of brandy and said 'excuse me sir, do you need a top up?'.
-
'mirrorcarp' - have a few swigs for GP (RIP) at the next game. Always knew you lot as 'Gord's Mob'. I'm sure it's going to take a fair while to get over this one. Hang in there mate and regards to everyone you go to the games with. Still can't believe it... Cheers, Rut

I bet he ain't got a Scouse accent.

Transfer deadline day thread (Summer 2013)
Rut replied to Ivan Katalinic's 'tache's topic in The Saints
Breaking transfer news: CONFIRMED 100%. Pompey have come in with a late bid for the cleaning team at HMS Nelson. They heard this team is the best at polishing up a sunken ship. -
Nail on head. A tip for reading this board is to mentally ignore most Full Members. Anyone who is a 'Registered User' normally posts the most readable stuff.

What pub? The Red Lion, Totton?

Cool. Enjoy Denver - it's a great city. Though I hope you don't enjoy the game! DEN have a few issues at the mo (not least, who the hell is their main RB?) but the passing game is looking evil. Easy-ish win for DEN v BAL. No 3 mile long hail Mary gertcha passes this time...

Exactly (with a bit of tuning) He's got a Pink Floyd 'wall' tattoo - gotta be (to the tune of 'Another Brick in the Wall'). Os-val-do - he'll put the, ball in the goal. or Os-val-do - he'll put the, ball in the goal. S! F! C! (whatever - it's the same tune) repeat... Perish the thought that it's slightly original... why not do one to 'come on feel the noise' by Slade cos you heard Man Utd singing it at Swansea... grrrh.
-
If this is true (and it sounds feasible) then what a great quiz question to put around the web when Bale becomes the most expensive player in the world. Bale/Pele/Best/Jesus - what team did they all play for in one game? (friendlies don't count).
-
This x10. 'I don't like going to St Marys cos there isn't very good wifi there'. FFS. Things have changed though. Couldn't believe all the kitchens at the Chelsea game last night with bananaramas constantly on the go. It's like half the crowd are there to watch the other half of the crowd. No problem with SFC chucking #SaintsFC on the seats. It could be a lot worse.
-
The league is now full. I sent a couple of emails out to the league. Hopefully anyone who entered got them ok? 2 weeks today the season starts. May your running backs run and your wide receivers receive...
-
Dunno about 'getting carried away' but I'm very optimistic for the season ahead. Definitely looking up - not down. The powers-that-be at SFC have tended to know what they are doing in recent seasons. This season seems no different.
