I maybe being a bit thick (waits for insults) but if the parent company (SLH) sells the subsidiary (SFC) then SLH takes administration, SFC no longer has any ties to the original parent company so avoids any deduction.

You said it was completely out of the blue but to follow the redundancy procedure the company should by law put you at risk first and go through a consultantion period you may have a claim for unfair dismissal if your unsure consule ACAS or citizen's advice.
