This thread is absolutely mental, no wonder people accuse of arrogance! We're in the Championship (old div 2 for those that aren't sure) and people are asking if we can be the best team in the world, with a 90,000+ stadium. You're a bunch of mentalists! Mind you some of the links about Barca have been really interesting so thanks for them, now please stop giving other clubs ammunition to love at us. To be fair there's much more to it than a champions league win, there's been a tahrir square style protest movement going on across spain for the last half a month about corruption in politics there and on friday the police tried to clear the square in barcelona by using massive amounts of police brutality (under the guise of wanting the square available for people to celebrate if barcelona won the football). There's a hell of a lot of anger in the city at the moment towards the Mosso's (riot police) who have been seen as basically a private army to forward the ideas of Puig. So there most likely would've been flash points over the weekend whatever.

What an incredible team Barcelona are quite possibly the best club side i've ever seen and Messi is quick becoming the kind of player that you talk about in the same breath as Pele or Marradona

It's a dilemma i've had for a while, i want saints to win and be the best BUT i hate the hype, the bull****, the prices and the losing of the premiership. The championship is fun, competitive and has the passion the old first division used to have. True we don't have the chance of a European adventure, but then how often did that happen? I don't know, flit with promotion. Maybe even get it? But don't forget what football is about (and that's what i've remembered in the lower leagues) the fans. To chase a promised land, that's really fairly soul destroying as it stands, is no fun. To lose [or expect to] is no fun. To see eighth as a good finish is no fun. To watch our ground become a soulless; quiet day out is no fun. BUT! To see us beat United is amazing. To see us known round the world again fills you with pride. To know that if we ever produced another Le Tiss he'd stay fills me with hope....

i've been a saints fan for too long not to be cynical, and heard too many bad things about the inner workings of the club recently, but there's nothing more that i'd love than to have these words stuffed down my throat. I truly hope you're right hypo', not for you, for Southampton; Southampton football club; those of us who've been here through dark days. In the meantime i'll take pride in my city and club whatever and if it does come true i'll be the first in the fountain outside the guildhall!

I think midtable is an achievable aim for next season, we might sneak play offs depending on signings but so long as we aren't in a relegation battle or below the skates i'll be happy. In fact if anything a season to consolidate in the championship might actually be a good thing as we're a long way from a premiership side now and it'd cost us a fortune to get a team that is of the right standard in one season.
-
As much as i'd love that to be the case it's naivety in the extreme to think it'd happen, the club have already said that they want to us to break even without the family's money, and everything we've seen so far shows that there's no qualms about hitting the fan's pockets to do that. Things might be good on the pitch at the moment, and there might be pride back in the club, but if you think we're being run as anything other than a business then you need to think again.

Fascist scum can **** off, and don't split hairs about him being in the Italian fascist mould and not the Nazi, they're all ****ing scum and not welcome in southampton.
-
To be fair a lot of people, myself included, don't really see the Prem as the promised land it's made out to be. More over priced, over hyped, quiet and with few games on a saturday at three. To stay in the Championship with regular games against the blue few (amongst others) wouldn't really be that bad.
-
I think it's fair to say myself and my mates have been getting excited about this one since we realised we were going up (or at least thought we were). There is so much revenge to be had for those last couple of games and nothing would give me more pleasure than ****ing stuffing them at their ****hole
-
Yup that's the version i remember from those good old days when we never used to sing about pompey, before the northam ruined it all....
-
I doubt there's a single saints fan that isn't thinking the same way, after the pain of last time at theirs i can't think of anything sweeter.
-
**** knows what the police would do with that since it'd be almost impossible to police the entire route to wembley. Unless they introduced football specials for both the train & tube, and then had a cordon to the ground too...

Friday Guardian article "Nigel Adkins puts celebrations on hold....."
ericb replied to BTW Saint's topic in The Saints
I'd say we need a center back (jaidi is too slow and makes to many mistakes on the floor for championship), a right back, a central midfielder and a fast striker. Alongside this we need cover for a few other areas too, but i'd expect we've already identified where and are looking at it. -
All the home games plus bournemouth without a ticket, which basically meant sitting in a pub all day drinking too much and shouting at sky
-
wasn't that one of the ones someone photoshopped on this thread?
-
Jesus what's wrong with the fans of other clubs? So we (read the club) ****ed up with tickets but is that really a good enough reason to spout some of the **** they are spouting. God i'll be glad to get away from some of the clubs in this division, the lack of class is incredible. Most should take a look at teams like Huddersfield to see how you can do it with class, no attitude and non of the "bull**** chip on your shoulder" stuff we get from people like brentford, bournemouth, brighton or walsall.
-
This just seems to me to be another good argument for safe standing in grounds, if you got rid of the seats for a proportion those that wanted to stand with their mates could and those that didn't could sit with their flasks That's just puerile ******** to be fair (and you probably know it too), banter has been around as long as i've been going and i've heard some pretty ****ing nasty stuff sung that makes what we hear these days pale into insignificance. How many here can remember "who's that burning on the runway?" or taking the **** out of northerners for losing their jobs in the 80's? Mind you the cortese one and pompey fan on a string make me cringe every time, but there you go you've gotta take the rough with the smooth. Besides as far as i'm concerned football is sanitised enough these days without having a go at people for fairly innocuous songs (if it was racist chanting it'd be a different story)
-
It has to be the most humiliating day of my saints supporting life, bunch of ****ing scum the lot of them. Mind you it was quite funny watching the fat sailor bloke coming out onto his terrace just before and giving it the whole scummers thing, before retreating back inside towards the police as a hail of coins followed him Oh and i can never listen to ****ing Amarillo again, it just brings back memories of those pikey skate ******s. and.... relax
-
The Skates. End of. I was there for the last game at Fratton and we owe them big style. If we continue the way we are doing we'll get that revenge too.
-
Yeah i've got to agree with that. I've been really impressed with the class of huddersfield fans as a bunch, there's no digging, jealousy or any of the other ******** a few clubs down here have come out with. They know they're a good side, we know we're a good side and there's a mutual respect shown between the two.
-
But that's because you were looking at a partisan crowd since those that disagreed weren't there. It's a bit like saying watching saints fans proves that everyone in the country supports saints, since you can't see any that don't. As for the world being jealous? No doubt there was interest from abroad but it was only a passing interest that's a bit of a throwback to the disney like stories of their youths.
-
Never understood why the hell anyone would cry over the wedding of celebrities, it's the same kind of brain dead hype that leads to massively over the top outpourings of idiocy like the diana funeral embarrassment, or on a lesser scale the jade goody ********. Still each to their own and all that, me as a good republican i've spent the day nursing a beast of a hangover and playing fifa on the xbox. Probably head out into town later for some drinks so long as i'm allowed in.

Almost as quaint as people thinking divine right is a rational reason for selecting heads of state (see you can patronise from both sides of the argument)
-
A version of this post should be placed at the start of every thread Dune starts, it's the most sensible thing i've seen on here in ages

Based on players i've seen, Shilton Dodd Wright Monkou Bale Case Armstrong Le Tissier Wallace (d) Shearer Pahars Not the most balanced of teams to be fair but my favourite players, Bench: Neimi Oakley Killer Bridge Walcott Beattie
