  1. Targett's 6 foot so there's barely any difference in stature. With 40 odd PL appearances Targett's proved himself enough in the Premier League to be allegedly interesting other Premier league teams (Aston Villa).
  2. Think I'd rather we sold Bertrand while still can. He's 29 and it's probably the last transfer window we'd get a decent fee for him. He's not been as good in the past season or two as he has previously, he's fallen out of the England squad and is a player on the decline. I think Targett's improved in the past season or two and he's going in the opposite trajectory. He's a real threat going forwards, with good pace and a quality cross. I'm not sure how you can know any defensive weakness can't be improved? It would be interesting to see the stats over the past couple of seasons for comparisson, I feel as if Targett's done well with assists at least. An option I'd quite like to see would be to keep both and possibly try Targett playing ahead of Bertrand as a left winger with them overlapping and covering for each other.
  3. I think Saints and Huddersfield are the only teams not to have any players included on the pick your team of the season on BBC website. Cardiff, Fulham and Burnely all have at least one player to choose from but it being such a poor season for us none of our squad are deemed good enough. edmond's probably been our stand out performer, but his haul of 9 goals pales in comparison to others. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48243885
  4. If you're drinking then ignore the suggestions to drive there and back. Brighton's got much better options then Lewes anyway, loads of great little victorian boozers. Not sure about 'away' pubs, but if you're after a half decent pint in a half decent old pub then the St James Tavern and the Park Cresent were both ones that I've been to before and enjoyed, and the Battle of Trafalgar near the Station. The Park Cresent also does the best Sunday lunch I've had anywhere. The Great Eastern, The Basket Makers Arms, The Pond in the Lanes were all good as well. Although it's about 5 years since I went to these establishments.
  5. So are Yoshida, and Vestegard.
  6. But Sala was a multimillionaire, so we have to pretend to be distraught as his life was substantially more important than Ibbotson's or the hundreds of others that die in accidents everyday in the UK. Crocodile tears are this year's must have trend.
  7. Anyone got a Stream? I can't seam to understand how to effectively search reddit.
  8. Think Targett's been one of our better performers recently, his pace, and crossing have been a real threat going forwards. Seem to remember Bertrand being in quite poor form before he got injured. It seems the longer a player's out for the better fans imagine them to be.
  9. Why can't we complete with them financially?
  10. Didn't think Cedric was particularly good when he came on for Targett yesterday, a few times he managed to flick the ball out of play when trying to run up the line, maybe it's because he was over on the left. I think it's a bit much to be expecting Valery to be a top right back straight away, would like to see his crossing improve as when he gets in though dangerous positions there's no real threat from him.
  11. Thought if Valery's 2 bookings against Leicester were just then by the same standard Gueye should have been off. Anyone else see that the ref went and fetched the ball for an Everton free kick deep in their half shortly before they scored? What have thought that that, the extra 4 mins stoppage time and playing on while there's a head injury were all fairly serious misdemeanors, he seemed to be willing Everton to score.
  12. Does the Danish right back have a name?
  13. Thought the point was fairly on the money, it is after all an opinion piece rather than a news item. The only bit that I'd have thought anyone could object to was the idea that all the top players we've had in the past 5 years could have all been in the same team when really many of them were brought in to replace those sold, and thus would probably have never joined without us first selling their predecessor (i.e. if we hadn't had lost Lovren we wouldn't have got Alderweireld, if we'd not lost him we'd never had got Van Dijk). The same for Lambert and Pelle, or J Rod and Mane. They certainly wouldn't have all played in the same team, but many of them did - Lallana, Lovren, Clyne, etc. Although it's used to make a point and certainly we have had a very decent team and a very good manager that if we had been able to add one or two of those new signings (i.e. Mane, Van Dijk) without selling nearly as many players then we may well have theoretically been in a similar position to Spurs.
  14. Wonder if we've conceded more than we've scored from our own corners in the past couple of years. Did we do it in successive games last year?

    Ryan Bertrand

Bertrand's definitely one of our better players, but hasn't been quite as good in the past year or so for whatever reason. Is McQueen still here? Thought he looked very decent when he's come in in the past, think Targett is a little weaker defensively but could form a good partnership if he were played left midfield with an attacking full back behind him as they'd be able to switch and cover each other.
  17. Anyone else see this? WBA had an artist in residence last year when they were relegated - thought it made for interesting viewing. https://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-football-club-artist-in-residence/on-demand/66822-001
  18. We had 3 centre backs on the bench.
  19. Sky Sports are calling Ross Wilson the Director of Football Operations, is he filling in for Les temporarily?
  20. If we only loose 5-0 that would be nice.
  21. Two hands and an elbow? You must have been watching a different game, there was the slightest of touches to his back and he threw himself to the ground. 9 times of of 10 it's not given and they wouldn't have had any complaints had that been the case. They didn't appeal for it, we had at least 3 players remonstrating with the ref (rather than the 1 that you've suggested), including Vestergard and I think Hojberg as well as Cedric. Mark Hughes said after the game he thought it was a soft penalty and that their player went down too easily from an in innocuous challenge. Listen to his interview from 50 seconds in: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45468085 I don't think anybody has said it wasn't a penalty, just that it was a soft penalty, one which most of the time wouldn't have been given. Had it not been given it probably wouldn't even have warranted a mention in the match report, certainly nothing more than a desperate penalty shout in the dying minutes.
  22. 'shoved him to the ground' = touched his back
  23. Very soft penalty, contact looked minimal. Thought their first goal had shades of offside about it but would need to see it again. To state the obvious but we need to attack better and defend better, final ball needs to be better, Redmond was guilty of shooting when he should have pulled it back. We need to concentrate at the back and mark better.
  24. Bertrand behind Rose (who was subbed off in the one match he's started this season), and now Chilwell as well.
  25. That's the one, thanks!
