  1. The f*ckers have killed this game off 2 months before kick off. Next it will be a DNA sample and retina scan. Total madness and as some people have already pointed out the coaches will be targets all the way from the Fareham junction on the M27. The only consolation being that the vermin will also be similarly treated in the return game.
  2. Agree, and that last visit to Reading was a real cracker too. The result helped, but I am certain on that day we roared the boys on to that victory..
  3. I did some analysis of this back in 2000, but I just looked at the actual city population size alone (not including any metropolitan catchment areas). I took the Prem League clubs at then time (non-London) and about dozen clubs from the other big cities and compared the size of city with the average home gate. Back in 2000 Saints were mid table, whilst at the Dell. With St Mary's factored in at 31/32k per game we were about second or third in terms of % home turnout compared to population size. From memory Boro had the very best % of support. I suspect if I did it today Norwich would come out on top. Just proves that we are a powerhouse (in relative terms) and Soton IS very much a footballing city. Puts paid to all that mumbo jumbo cr*p about P*mpey having this massive support. The figs just didn't show it then, and certainly don't show it now.
  4. Big banner placed over a road bridge on the A12 up to Ipswich (Nov '92) saying 'BRANFOOT OUT!'
  5. Which is why they should ask you whether you want 'singing' or 'non-singing' when the club divvy out away tickets. Get the watchers to the front and the singers to the back. We'd all be happy then!
  6. Steve Williams was a Finsbury Park boy through and through, so in actual fact we nicked him from under the noses of Arsenal.

    Fun facts!

Steve Moran's mother was my old school teacher.
  8. Scummers 'ere we come, scummers, scummers 'ere we come. Watch out Pompey, the Saints are coming!
  9. My sincere condolences to Dean's family. A life take so young is a tragedy. Grateful thanks for the good memories though; you will be remembered by the Saints.
  10. I seem to remember everybody banging on and on about our crap fitness levels when Redknapp was here, but this doesn't/didn't seem to affect any of his other teams before or since then. So, I suspect that his move here just didn't work out for him. Does anybody remember that quip he came out with whilst at St Mary's when he bemoaned the Bentleys and Porches in the Saints car park, when he said he was used to the bangers the Poopey players drove? This was just an analogy of why he never felt comfortable about Saints, and maybe he was right. We did seem to have an attitude that being in the top flight was our god given right (certainly from the club, but not necessarily the fans). Things were just too comfortable at SFC, and I'm glad we are starting to get tough again. Lowe ultimately drove him out and back to Nottarf, but by that point he'd had enough. As a pairing SFC and Redknapp just weren't matched. It's a shame, but that's how it was...anyway, good luck to him for the future, and a congratulations for making the North London derby a proper competitive game for the first time in years.

    The 90's

Awesome atmosphere at Carrow Road for the FA Cup QF against Norwich in March '92. Fantastic noise in the corner under the old away stand..
  12. Keggy Keegan. He would love it. We would love it.
  13. This is all very odd, unless a 'situation' has been bubbling on for some time. It does concern me though that a man whose professional status of banker is trusted to make decisions on behalf of a football club; which means this must have been fully sanctionned by the Liebherrs. Being that NC and Markus' family will also have turned to a third party for further advice, I would like to know who actually IS advising them? In any case, we must trust that their decision making processess will be for their own long-term financial benefit, and therefore footballing success for the club. So for that reason, a name must be very near to being lined up. Personally, it will have to be bloody big to ensure everybody is brought on side quickly, or this season could turn into witch hunt against NC. FWIW, I would love to see Keggy Keegan back for a last swan song and final glory. Saints would be an ideal club fto end his management career in glory. But then again, what do I know??
  14. John Inverdale (BBC Sport)
  15. James Mates at ITN News.
  16. Sincere condolences to the Liebherr family for their loss of a great man; 62 is way too young to pass away. All I can say is many thanks for saving Saints and I truly hope your time with us gave you as much happiness as it did us. May you rest in peace sir.
  17. I think to categorise Southampton with the likes of Leeds and Millwall is a total and utter joke and total rubbish. Our away support is not anywhere remotely like theirs in a million years. I'm just trying to remember the last time any Saints away support charged at the home fans looking for aggro. You probably have to go back to Highbury '84 to see anything remotely resembling that type of behaviour. We must be in the same category as the likes of Norwich, Ipswich, Coventry, Bolton, Blackburn etc- well followed away support which comes and goes with very little aggravation. Besides which if we are 'C' what does that make Man Utd? C++??
  18. Unstoppable
  19. Will we still be singing 'Come On You Reds' next season then? Maybe 'Come on You Whites'? This white with red sash business just doesn't sit well.
  20. Stevie Moran was a Warsash legend. I well remember the time his Mum (a teacher at school) brought in the PFA Young Player of the Year award to show us all; a real treat for everybody. Some other memories I have are of when Steve would sometimes come out of his Mum's house and walk the dogs on the Warsash rec, only to be absolutely mobbed by dozens of football mad school boys. He was as near to a celebrity as you got! Overall he was a superb player, a 'one of us' type. Seeing him made you think you could also make it. Somebody mentioned his wedding and England, and I think he was right. From memory he was going to be called into an England tour of Summer '84, but it clashed with his wedding and he forego the opportunity. What a fantastic player he was. I was gutted that we let him go to Leicester.
  21. You're absolutely right about this (in terms of MOTD commentary). I think it was Motson that said "Everton sing when they're 6-0 up, but Southampton sing when they're 6-0 down" or words to that effect. From memory, it was also one of those rare occasions when Saints wore an all in red combo (red shirts, red shorts and red socks). And as somebody else mentioned, yes it was poor old Keith Granger in goal. Sad thing about this fixture is that just 2 years previous, we were by far a better team than the Toffees and should have gone on to win THAT FA Cup Semi Final, with all its inevitable subsequent successes...
  22. I'm bang on there too. I can see Oxford Circus tube from my window! Where abouts are you? Based in the old Classic FM building (above Benneton) right on the corner of Oxford St/Regents Street. Seems like there are a few of us about in the centre of town. Soton here, Soton there, Soton flippin everywhere!!
  23. Good to see Saints fans all over the place (I also have 3 in my office on Oxford Street). It just goes to show how well supported we are outside Southampton. Anyway, no real point to my e-mail, just thought I'd report back! Make that another one here (am bang on Oxford Circus/Regent St). Saints everywhere in the Smoke!
  24. Two of us from the Smoke training down early doors tomorrow. Heard there's engineering works so hoping to get down in reasonable time...
  25. Sounds about right. I remember seeing them marched down Britannia Rd about 10 mins after we had been let out
