Just tend to get into the Old Ale Emporium these days. Would be nice to see you if you come down for a TV game. I used to have a S/T until kids came along, so the pub cheapest option.

Fair smattering of Saints on the other side of Harringay Station too, Eric....here there and everywhere...

If anyone's interested....on this day in 1995, Saints lost 4-2 to Arsenal at Highbury. I think it was Bergkamp's first goals for the Gunners. Hopefully, not an omen for this evening.
-
If the Faltering Fullback is rammed, I can recommend the Old Dairy just up the drag at Stroud Green (about 5 minute walk further). Alternatively, if anyone wants a bit of a walk across the park to the stadium, then the Salisbury on Green Lanes, Harringay is a top boozer. For those intending to travel on the North London line from Richmond to Highbury & Islington, why not remind yourself of your home city by stopping off at Gospel Oak and popping into the Southampton Arms (just around the corner from Gospel Oak Station); a proper no frills cider and ale boozer.

Spurs are equally as well supported as Arsenal, DM - in both catchment area and fanbase. When they get their new 58/60k stadium they'll fill it no probs. That said, it would surprise me if MP did leave. The Saints opportunity is a fantastic one for him, and if he did leave I think it would only be to Utd or one of the continental giants-and he is 5 years off proving himself for those sorts of roles.

Your favourite Saints players that weren't popular?
Badvoc replied to Bad Wolf's topic in The Saints
Colin Clarke. During his first season it seemed every touch he had would result in a goal. If he hadn't got injured at the back end of 86/87 I'm sure his goal stats would have been really good. Just a shame his weight became an issue and he wanted 'out' to a more ambitious club-QPR FFS!!! -
Tottenham 1-0 Southampton // Post-Match Reaction

That's nice. A number of us saints happily live in north London. Would suggest you don't get out much. -
Sincere condolences to the Moore family at the tragic loss of a man so young. Super pro and as mentioned earlier, he got some stunning headed goals from corners. From memory would chip in with 3 or 4 goals a season. Will be fondly remembered by Saints and Grimsby alike.
-
Kevin Moore anyone? Scored a good few crackers with his bonce (ZDS Final being most memorable).

If it's value for money, then surely it's got to be Jimmy Case? He was only meant to be here for a season or two, and made it to six seasons. Remember, it was Case who was pulling the strings in that awesome 89/90 squad. The way he was allowed to leave once Branfoot arrived was a was a bloody disgrace..

Back in the day, just prior to 2001, I proposed to Rupes that he petition Soton CC to paint those gas towers in Northam red & white, instead of them remaining as a pair of rusty old hulks...I think they would have looked smart and acted like a beacon leading the masses to St Marys. Never happened though :-(

Yes, it was probably a bit rough back in the day. Believe it or not though, the Salisbury was one of the primary reasons for buying our house (Stanhope Gds). We went in there after viewing our gaff and made the decision there and then that area was just right for us...and that was over 7 years ago!!!

Graffito, indeed the Salisbury did feature in the Long Good Friday. Also featured in the film "Chaplin", I believe. Lovely pub for the afficiandos; mosaic tiled floors. You did well getting upstairs BTW. I understand it's used by some evangelical church group now. Back in the day the pub was the centre piece of Grand Parade.

If anybody is getting out at Finsbury Park, the Twelve Pins & Blackstock are right near the station. They may both be home pubs only. Also nearby, I would recommend the Faltering FullBack http://thefullback.co.uk/ or the Old Dairy in Stroud Green http://www.theolddairyn4.co.uk/ If anyone fancies a drink a bit further out, I would recommend my local, The Salisbury http://www.timeout.com/london/bars/venue/2%3A15241/salisbury-hotel You can jump on the 29 bus outside the Salisbury and will be withing staggering distance of the Emirates in 5-10 mins.

Any reason why some people don't think Chaplow will feature too much this season? Personally, I think he's a tidy, aggressive player who will step up nicely to the Prem. Saints have a history of bringing in quality lower division players and turning them into sold topflight footballers...back in the mid 80s pretty much half our team at any one time were raided from the lower divisions. Does noone remember the decent jobs done by the likes Hobson, Statham, Forrest, Cockerill, Townsend, Moore, Marsden, Horne... FWIW, I think Chaplow will more than hold his own in 2012/13.

To the tune of "Carry That Weight" (Abbey Road) Boys, you're going to carry the Saints Carry the Saints a long time Boys, you're going to carry the Saints Carry the Saints a long time....
-
So it looks like we're going to be slightly replicating the 83/84 clash kit with an old red combo?
-
Arsenal & Spurs....both within within a 5 min bus ride from home. Have good friends of both clubs, so looking forward to the banter...

What a day and what a way to clinch promotion! Despite the fact we should have nailed this weeks ago, today's result has made going up that little bit sweeter. Massive congratulations to all the Saints fans that have travelled and turned up in great numbers over the last few years. Today's spectacle proves SFC is deserving of a 'big club' title. Well done lads and lasses; I hope you enjoy the evening! Now that Poopey are long gone, it's about time we took back our rightful place as South Coast top dogs.....Saints IS the South once again! So, so proud of Southampton Football Club and its loyal fans........

Seriously, if any of them travel and cause one second of aggro, the consequences will be severe in the extreme re' criminal convictions etc etc-don't some of you lot remember what happened to the 'fence rattlers' of 2010? Who honestly would risk it when it will impact jobs, livelihoods etc when there are CC TV cameras everywhere and the repercussions of antisocial order are significant? Only a jobless loner with no home and family would even try it (OK, that's most of them included then!) Besides which, if some do try it on, then their collective memories must be shortlived. Didn't a few of them turn up for a 'meet and greet' outside the Joiners prior to the CC Dec 2003 game? From memory, it wasn't a good result for Poopey on or off the pitch that night. I never understand the mentality of some Saints. PFC are not the boogey men. Pound for pound and culturally Soton & Poopey are more alike than not...so just relax and enjoy the pre and post match beers!

Millwall v Dag & Red-FA Cup 3rd Round Replay-Updates!
Badvoc replied to dannysfc's topic in The Saints
From memory of the 2003 replay, we pretty much had the entire top tier, although it wasn't rammed and there were plenty of seats all around. Funniest memory from that game was on the train to the game from London Bridge. It was pretty clear that all the lads in our carriage were going to the game, but nobody knew who was who and whether any of the train were Millwall. It was fairly quiet all round, except for a small group of 'Wall youth singing........then when we got off the game everyone filed into the away end. PMSL, good old Saints brave lads! -
Jimmy Case. Purchased at the "end the end of his career" for about £50k. Absolute club legend and only ousted by that no-mark Branfoot.
-
As much as I hate to say it, this is the difference between us and the scum. When, on the rare occasions they got a gate bigger than us in the past, they waved it under our noses as proof of their (laughable) sleeping giant tag. On the reverse, as we appear to be coming out of the doldrums and get bigger attendances some of our lot act act like total village idiots by *****ing and moaning at our own numbers-total bunch of small town f**ktards. Get a life you coneheads!
-
Really looking forward to this one. With a 5.20pm kick off it should help the atmosphere build nicely over the day. Other than the train station boozer, does anyone know if theere are there any other decent pubs in town that we'll be allocated?
-
As a matter of interest, as we have no choice in travel arrangements for the game, could the club/Hants Police be liable to any litigation should any injuries occur to Saints travelling on official coaches? Not sure whether the fact we don't have a choice here potemtially opens them up to any personal injury claims sustained by antisocial behaviour? I would hope this is buttoned up in case of the odd brick thrown from a road bridge..
