Just tend to get into the Old Ale Emporium these days. Would be nice to see you if you come down for a TV game. I used to have a S/T until kids came along, so the pub cheapest option.

Fair smattering of Saints on the other side of Harringay Station too, Eric....here there and everywhere...

If anyone's interested....on this day in 1995, Saints lost 4-2 to Arsenal at Highbury. I think it was Bergkamp's first goals for the Gunners. Hopefully, not an omen for this evening.

If the Faltering Fullback is rammed, I can recommend the Old Dairy just up the drag at Stroud Green (about 5 minute walk further). Alternatively, if anyone wants a bit of a walk across the park to the stadium, then the Salisbury on Green Lanes, Harringay is a top boozer. For those intending to travel on the North London line from Richmond to Highbury & Islington, why not remind yourself of your home city by stopping off at Gospel Oak and popping into the Southampton Arms (just around the corner from Gospel Oak Station); a proper no frills cider and ale boozer.

Spurs are equally as well supported as Arsenal, DM - in both catchment area and fanbase. When they get their new 58/60k stadium they'll fill it no probs. That said, it would surprise me if MP did leave. The Saints opportunity is a fantastic one for him, and if he did leave I think it would only be to Utd or one of the continental giants-and he is 5 years off proving himself for those sorts of roles.

Your favourite Saints players that weren't popular?

Colin Clarke. During his first season it seemed every touch he had would result in a goal. If he hadn't got injured at the back end of 86/87 I'm sure his goal stats would have been really good. Just a shame his weight became an issue and he wanted 'out' to a more ambitious club-QPR FFS!!! -

That's nice. A number of us saints happily live in north London. Would suggest you don't get out much. -
Sincere condolences to the Moore family at the tragic loss of a man so young. Super pro and as mentioned earlier, he got some stunning headed goals from corners. From memory would chip in with 3 or 4 goals a season. Will be fondly remembered by Saints and Grimsby alike.

Kevin Moore anyone? Scored a good few crackers with his bonce (ZDS Final being most memorable).

If it's value for money, then surely it's got to be Jimmy Case? He was only meant to be here for a season or two, and made it to six seasons. Remember, it was Case who was pulling the strings in that awesome 89/90 squad. The way he was allowed to leave once Branfoot arrived was a was a bloody disgrace..

Back in the day, just prior to 2001, I proposed to Rupes that he petition Soton CC to paint those gas towers in Northam red & white, instead of them remaining as a pair of rusty old hulks...I think they would have looked smart and acted like a beacon leading the masses to St Marys. Never happened though :-(

Yes, it was probably a bit rough back in the day. Believe it or not though, the Salisbury was one of the primary reasons for buying our house (Stanhope Gds). We went in there after viewing our gaff and made the decision there and then that area was just right for us...and that was over 7 years ago!!!

Graffito, indeed the Salisbury did feature in the Long Good Friday. Also featured in the film "Chaplin", I believe. Lovely pub for the afficiandos; mosaic tiled floors. You did well getting upstairs BTW. I understand it's used by some evangelical church group now. Back in the day the pub was the centre piece of Grand Parade.

If anybody is getting out at Finsbury Park, the Twelve Pins & Blackstock are right near the station. They may both be home pubs only. Also nearby, I would recommend the Faltering FullBack http://thefullback.co.uk/ or the Old Dairy in Stroud Green http://www.theolddairyn4.co.uk/ If anyone fancies a drink a bit further out, I would recommend my local, The Salisbury http://www.timeout.com/london/bars/venue/2%3A15241/salisbury-hotel You can jump on the 29 bus outside the Salisbury and will be withing staggering distance of the Emirates in 5-10 mins.

Any reason why some people don't think Chaplow will feature too much this season? Personally, I think he's a tidy, aggressive player who will step up nicely to the Prem. Saints have a history of bringing in quality lower division players and turning them into sold topflight footballers...back in the mid 80s pretty much half our team at any one time were raided from the lower divisions. Does noone remember the decent jobs done by the likes Hobson, Statham, Forrest, Cockerill, Townsend, Moore, Marsden, Horne... FWIW, I think Chaplow will more than hold his own in 2012/13.
