  1. I shall endeavor to make it to the Alex for 6 then. Super.
  2. Once again a thread on Saints Web has descended into nothing more than an argument about semantics. In this case based around a different understanding of the terms left and right wing. I suggest, if it interests anyone, that they spend their time researching it, or talking to people that actual know something, rather than trying to point score on here, particular now (sigh) the usual suspects have reduced themselves to petty name calling (again). Boring, boring, boring. (There are better politics forums out there where people can actually strongly disagree without being tw*ts about it and implying the other person is stupid or a child.) 3. Cool, thank you for expanding. One would question if it does not work the other way also? Many companies (perhaps not relevant to yours, where £18k suggests a higher skill level) would rather pay 6.20 an hour for staff (perhaps also on zero hours contracts) and then let them go the moment they are faced with paying more. It might not pertain to your business but it is likely to affect many tens of thousands in their mid twenties. However I fully accept your point and agree with it. Shame you went all weird with the teenage pregnancy bit at the end! Also, please reread what I wrote! I certainty do NOT think that is how lessons are learnt or taught. I am sorry if I was unclear - I was probably a bit fancy with my terminology but I was actually having a naughty dig at your failure to give a lesson after saying that's what you were about to do! To clarify; you announced you were going to give a lesson and then stated a belief - admittedly I rather cheekily implied that belief was indoctrinated, rather than learnt through hard graft over thirty years; my bad, I won't do it again. 4. The minimum wage will still be in effect however the cuts to benefits and for young people will dramatically reduce the 'real world' value of this minimum wage. There seems to be a random assertion that people aged 18-24 can somehow pay less for food, bills, housing, etc etc..! Not to mention the apprentice system, or London living for tens of thousands of people. And so on... ...hey, it's complicated, which is why I called out GM for just shouting out the headline figures. In essence a legal baseline to a living wage is good, but it, unfortunately, comes at a cost in other areas - GM is clearly aware of this (I believe him to be an intelligent individual, based on his posts over the years), but chooses to ignore it to support his own view point on this occasion. When stating that you are about to give a 'lesson', it always helps to follow it up with some content! (As opposed to the repetition of an indoctrinated ideology devoid of substantiation). What you have done is state an opinion, alas lessons don't work that way my friend... ...But then you are clearly not a teacher or else you you wouldn't be so anti-union, so I'll forgive you!
  5. The Living Wage (to which the £9 you mention refers) which effectively replaces the minimum wage and is for 25yo and older (current min wage is 21yo and over). But don't let those millions of young people who will lose out stop you quoting headline figures. I think others will tackle your other 'points'! Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
  6. A symbolic exercise? Quite possibly yes. But one should never underestimated the power of such things! Symbolic is very much the word I think. Oh, I really hope I don't come across as a complainer? Campaigner maybe, and, although I could do more, I would hope everything I have done and supported over the years has been largely positive, not negative. I do understand that there are many 'on the left' who are like that and it is probably the thing that frustrates me most about 'the movement'. (If course, the popular press - with no little help of the Labour party itself - has done a great job of tarring us all with the same brush). Honestly - I don't hold my ideals above all else and abhor the current governance of austerity. It is but cold comfort that it has forced others to seek out the socialism and activism I personally hold dear. So, yes, as a symbol of what the labour party should embrace and could return to, then Corbyn has my utmost support! (Should he defy the odds and win..? ...then I have no doubt he has the ability and sense to unite the party under exactly the kind of center leftist agenda you suggest, as he done in his constituency.) 7. He is not though is he Fry, just because most people haven't heard much of Corbyn before (presumably because they do not have a left wing agenda, and fair enough) doesn't make him a nonentity or a five minute wonder... ...Suggesting he is is hardly 'political discourse' now is it, sir? There are those of us who are actively political that have been trudging through streets and fields with our banners and songs all our lives; fighting (as we see it) for a fairer and more just society, for better conditions and reparations for workers, for a nation that is secure through international cooperation not nuclear proliferation. We can have the debate about how we, on this here forum, might disagree on any or all of those things but to dismiss one man (in this case Corbyn) for his belief in those things as 'irrelevant' (coupled with the 'Fabian society' brush off) is little better than what you mocking Hockey for (supposedly) doing! Now; for those of us on the 'left' it is incredibly refreshing to have a figure (who most of us have probably met or at least seen speak over the years) who thinks much like we do, finally in the public eye. It is also a boon to see so many (young, disenfranchised or disengaged) people who haven't been 'into politics' react positively to Jeremy Corbyn's straight-talking leftwing views. This is what I think worries the 'opposition' more than anything else (and maybe that is why people trot out the, IMHO lazy and insulting, Russell Brand comments.) Yes, the voting system means Corbyn won't win the leadership, but - -after nearly two decades of Labour ignoring it's traditional left (if not being outright oppose to it) - he may well win back labour's 'heart'. Personally I would welcome that, and I think it would be good for British politics (and therefore Britain) as a whole. Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
  8. Anyone else on this bus? http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?54670-Vitesse-Away-Leg-Travel#.Va9yIflVhBc Do we trust it? Was going to drive but this is tempting..! If it's not sold out of course.
  9. I find myself not totally disliking any of them! Granted the huge Aviva square is unfortunate but at least club and sponsor have such a close arrangement that (on the home and away at least) the logo is amended to 'suit' the kit colours. (Looks truly awful on the third, bringing in yet another green and yellow as it does). But, in isolation, none of these are that bad(are they?!) The halves is quite traditional and the away pinstripe is a bit seventiesy and I like that too, whilst the third has overtones of the gloriously bonkers Carlisle Deckchair kit. Although, as a set of home/away/third kits it makes no sense at all, each shirt is okay I think - Not world changing but not awful either. I clearly either have no taste at all or I am just too damn couture for my own good. Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
  10. The Toby Class was introduced in 2014 and was designed to be a modern variant on the classic 'utility' unit, with 'can-play-across-the-back' and 'holding-midfielder' modes built in as standard. It even had a 'slightly-further-forward' option that could be deployed in emergencies and overtly attacking formations.. The Toby Class proved popular in it's first year of operation on the South Coast Mainline however it was withdrawn shortly after an incident where it came off the rails. It was later discovered that, despite it's initially positive service, the Toby Class suffers from a faulty cock.
  11. This is, sadly, too true. We do have a reasonably good home game against them to remember now though [emoji6]
  12. He was pretty hacked off after Sunderland away too... ...As was I! Worst value miles-per-minute I've ever seen; awful awful game.
  13. This ^ Perhaps a thread just for those sofa breaking moments? For us it was the third scrappy goal against Cov to send us up. Being a true Saint I wasn't confident until we were three nil up against a really poor side. Jumped up and down on the three seater. Like you do. Hugs alround. Sat back down. Two minutes later the sofa collapsed in half with us on it. We have never replaced it; Just threw it away and decided to go out more and not sit around on sofas. So a life changing moment really as we are happier and healthier (?dunno; more nights out!) than ever before.
  14. Very well rounded football fans, these Portuguese, in that they can describe a player that they have only seen play in the Portuguese top division as of 'mid table English second tier' quality. Impressive.
  15. One of my favourite bands of recent years. Proper. Get told off for having them on too loud in the car though. Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
  16. What tone? Strikes me as a slightly strange thing to say as, in my mind, Saintsweb is as much about [emoji2] and as it is about football!? Hmmmm. Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
  17. My apologies... ...in my defense it's bloody difficult to tell sarcasm from idiocy on this site sometimes. Maybe a winky face next time?! Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
  18. What tone? Strikes me as a slightly strange thing to say as, in my mind, Glasto is as much about 'flying your flag' for the week as it is about music! (The only really lowbrow banner I saw was a f*cking Saints flag with a blow up doll attached. THAT was a bit embarrassing.) Plenty of excellent festivals where flags are 'not allowed' and even stages at Glasto where they are discouraged, but at the pyramid stage??! Hmmm. Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
  19. Go on then. What would your line-up have been this year? Just give me a headliner, a park stage gem, a west holts act, a late Saturday second stage crowd pleaser and any other options you want. Nothing too strenuous; now is your chance to prove you know (feel? understand? appreciate) anything at all about music... ...will you take it? Ban flags at Glasto? Pfft. 20. That sounds like serious design flaw to me.
  21. Naturalnews.com? F*ck me! Seriously? You need to check out what that site really stands for. An abhorrent and hateful pile of skank akin to the Daily Mail in its pushing of one set of agendas in disregard of any others. Dangerous peddlers of quackery and fear-fed nonsense to boot. I find it truly shocking people read this garbage, believe it and then parrot it out. Do some proper research fella, you are clearly capable. And I was on your side until that point! 22. A thread about threads. Nice. Can I pair a Saints-red Weekend Offender polo I bought on sale with some natty Namanica chinos and my trusty Chatham Orwells? I will probably end up looking some mad uncle that has raided Turkish's wardrobe, but what price fashion? Mind you, I might just rock my normal travel-wear of a USAF black flight suit (lots of pockets for money/ticket/passport/boiled sweets and no belt to remove at the airport). 23. Okay then, as you asked for it; Delusional sense of own righteousness, wilful ignorance of wider society, arrogant repetition of beliefs without consideration of those of others, fearful of a society governed by shared mores rather than an individuals desires, and, to top it all, heavily pro-gun ownership. Mostly though its the fear; the obvious and sickly fear you have of a world that doesn't share your opinions in general and those of your 'personal safety' in particular - the unease drips from almost every word you type. Although it may be harmless internet chatter you still manage to come across as a likely danger to yourself, though thankfully not to others. Ultimately, despite your posturing, you seem irrevocably, tragically, pathetic. On this thread alone, you drowned in your own spittle a long time ago, metaphorically shot in the head by your own general of poor arguments and biased research; yet still you wish to claim some pyrrhic 'victory'. You won, the enclave is burnt down, the siege is over, the children are dead - but hey, guns are still legal and you can whoop and dance in your own flame behind your keyboard for as long into the dark night as you like. 24. Plenty of studies done on this. Mostly US based and it depends on where you live (cost of living). Using 'happiness' as the goal of day to day existence (measured by such things quality of life, free time, health, spiritual life, feelings of loneliness, expectations about aging, etc.) around $50-75k is the optimum yearly income. All the studies suggest anymore than that has no bearing on happiness. So, yeah, around £37,500 to £40,000 is the optimum salary in the UK. We all have an HQ too, like an IQ, a happiness quotient that tends to remain fixed (or return to mean) regardless of situation. People with a higher HQ tend to be more content whatever their circumstance and people with low HQ tend to be frustrated regardless. Social pressures can warp this of course (we live in a society where 'greed is good' and 'ambition' is seen as simply as desire for more wealth, rather than personal fulfillment) but essentially it is a pathological constant in all of us. In addition HQ and IQ have been suggested to be linked, but this is early (ie limited) research. Intriguingly where high IQ and low HQ combine you tend find sociopathic behaviours, for example in city traders. In this particular instance I would guess Adam, like many professional footballers, has not only a lower than average IQ, but also a lower than average HQ too. Or maybe he was sad because of what his wife allegedly did? Who can say!? Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
  25. Sarnia has 'won' in the same way David Koresh 'won' the Waco siege. Sadly, the similarities don't end there. Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
