...the club is going off the rails... ...petty squabbles stoking the fire and fueling the flames... ...but it's full steam ahead... ...as there's light at the end of the tunnel... etc -
still rumours* abound that the iphone nano WILL be released for Chrimbo this year... ...but that's kinda the opposite of what you want - it will likely be a 4 or 8 gig ipod with a phone function - no web or wifi. If you fancy an alternative media player, the creative Zen range is very cool - is a lot more 'adaptable' than an ipod (can be used as a drag n drop USB drive and on several PCs [ipods limited the number of PCs you can upload/download with]) but again no web or wifi. Loads of other cool phones (the SE G900, the LG viewty, Nokia NG series, Samsung Onmia etc, th enew Google phone from Tmobile) all match the iphone for spec (barre built in GPS). Or perhaps a netbook - mini linux based laptop to surf the net and email and media and office and all that. These are genrally under £300. Try ebuyer.com for good prices on these. My latest gadget is a Zoom H4 Handy recorder - best thing I bought in years. *and they are JUST rumours. nothing to say they are true.

The presidents schedule was cleared (as it always is) for the last two weeks of campaigning, but the McCain camp have been distancing themselves from Dubya from the start and even more so since the financial ho-ha kicked off in september. He has made a couple of sat-link-up appearances at a couple of rallies but that's it. Damaged Goods for any Republican...
-
...plus you got the 'Palin effect' - good or bad, who's to say - I think she's a scary nut-job but I'm not an average Joe Republican American - and then there's the skin-colour issue. Which is an issue.

still lots of concern about voter registration, voter disqualification lists, ID checks getting out of hand, long queues, not enough polling staff and a stupid number of extra things to vote for on the ballet to 'confuse' people that could lead to potential miscounts and, worse still, legal challenges...
-
I can't get enough of it. I know Joe the Plumber's financial situation better than my own right now.

Of course! I'm with yer Dell Days... Basically you are asserting that people only read the paper so they know what to think! Otherwise they would not have an opinion at all. Not only does the paper give them an opinion, it instructs them what to do! So, from there, complaining to Ofcom or the BBC (via email or telephone) - taking part in the new phenomena of 'Interactive News' - is "basically" the same as voting in a national election. Yep, a little shaky but I'm still with yer. By complaining, these people are trying to get their 'favourite story' to become the main news item - they have a strong opinion on it and want others to too, so they force the issue and hopefully get what they want. By campaigning, the presdential candidates supporters are trying to get their 'favourite candidate' to become the main news item - they have a strong opinion on it and want others to too, so they force the issue and hopefully get what they want. The only real issue here is that the election of the President of the United States of america is a major issue worth getting worked up about and so it is natural and proper to see so many people concerned with it, interrested in it, and shouting louder than they otherwise might and, and, well, the ross/brand thing is just farcical and not even worth me finishing the last word in this sen

Sadly neither Jonathan Ross nor Russell Brand are standing for election to the post of President of the United States, at this time.

I don't think Watford have been playing a hoof-n-hope game under Boothroyd by choice - but like so many teams/players/fans/managers they panic in this league when things ain't working and resort to classic English route one football. At the (VERY) least saints are trying to stick to their style and improve, rather than panicking and missing out the talent in the middle of the park by hoofing upfront every time. So many teams do this; it's the natural way of Div2 football. SO, maybe a blessing in disguise then that we have a manager that knows very little about this league?! Mind you, I quite like the look of Watford's Polish striker. HCDAJFU. ;-)
-
I've always liked 'plucky' Watford. Not so keen on arrogant Watford - I now (fully) understand how fans of other CCC teams who had previously liked Saints in the Prem began to find us irritating when we came down, fully expecting to go back up without a struggle and moaning when it didn't workout. No one likes a whinger. No offence meant, TDD :-)

Well, there's Ringwood and, oh erm, Hops Back is Wiltshire innit..? My bad. Still, a fine rotating selection of Ales none-the-less (much like Rob S's centre- back selection policy!!)

Good amendments, comprehensive post from Foxy. I'd second The Hop Leaf as it's my the pub side I play for (the last Pub Team left in the Reading Saturday League!) I'll certainly be stopping in there after. Small pub with the best in Hampshire ales!

It's basic word association that's the problem: Barack = Iraq Hussein = erm, Hussein Obama = Osama Biden = Bin Laden McCain = chip Palin = python Too true, the entire staff would change (expect maybe Col Powell) - at the moment, Bush's advisers are the same neo-cons that have building the US military-industrial elite since GHWBush was president and have been wielding big powerful political sticks right back to Nixon's time... ...the clever bastards.

I read that as Afghan Valley Mountain Biking. Now THAT is extreme mountain biking.

How much does it cost to run the floodlights at SMS?

'Wnid power' is not a 'myth'. Yes it is currently heavily subsidised but so is every other power lobby. What kind of 'subsidisation' (cost) is hidden in Nuclear power? The Nuke lobby is far better funded than eco-power lobbies - for the moment at least - and also has a fifty year start on alternative energy sources in terms of RnD and Deployment. Build costs for Nuclear are staggeringly huge and can only be justified on a large scale (eg current plans for new UK power stations require an absolute minimum of six stations to built to meet cost expectations) and subsequent running costs are simply NOT figured into the cost per watt. Clean up and disposal falls to Governments and therefor the tax payer. This is a massive hidden charge. None of this mentions the safety angle, which probably need not bother us - but your Grand Kids might not be too happy with our 'state-of-the-art' nuclear power stations, in much the same way most Londoners are less than impressed with victorian 'state-of-the-art' water and sewage systems. Small scale Wind (and other renewable enegy sources) are in the early days of development and deployment in the modern world, but are already showing signs of adequetely replacing Grid power. As demand and need rises, production improves and increases, economy 'acts on a scale' and the price comes down. I hate the idea that people still see Nuclear power as 'clean', when it is about the dirtiest power there is. If you want to make sure your lights stay on you'd ideally get your own power source in your home. -
fair point, well made. But you must not forget that for every David Beckham there's a Jimmy Bullard and for every Michael Owen there's an Ian Wright...

I have written to Gordon Brown and explained that our club has been badly mis-managed by a self-serving board working under, variously, lax, non-existant or shadowy regulation over the last few years. Our share price has plummeted and we are looking at many years in the doldrums unless we can find a massive cash injection. I expect a couple of weeks of dithering before a rescue plan worth several billion pounds of tax payers money is put together to save Saints, Ipswich Town and Brentford. I expect Alistair Darling (or ali.darling@number10.gov.uk - as it says on his brass plaque) to thunder out: "These teams can not be allowed to go under, the government will do all it can to prevent a football recession at these historic clubs".

Saga still has the number four shirt I guess? -
If you are training it up, this is most certainly the best pub for a pre-match pint, three guineas is a proper olde worlde pub with music to watch girls go by (reading station is good for this, if nothing else:smt118). If you are driving however, I could recommend parking the other side of the motorway in Three Mile Cross, a couple of very neat little pubs (good local ale and banter) and a twenty minute walk to the ground. DO NOT be tempted to go into Whitley (across the business park from the stadium). Even most Reading fans don't dare drink in those pubs...

lovin this! I'm not sure what's better; three points or a week on this forum with no Alpine or Delldays?! (sorry lads, but you know what I mean!)
