Couple of comments from Reading fans: "He has a good eye for a bargain and will more than likely have you playing 451, we played some decent passing football under him. He loves his teams to wear motivational slogan covered t-shirts while warming up. Just make sure he doesn't start blabbering on about raping full backs and you'll get on just fine." "I think he is perfect for the job (at Saints). weakness; may leave for more money at a bigger job" Reads OK to me. 451 not very popular here at SMS tho... Although slogan T-shirts always go down well. ;-)

Very pleased with the appointment of Pardew. As promised by Markus and his team, a FOOTBALLING decision has been made! Although WGS or KK would have sold tickets, they would have been emotional appointments and not long term footballing ones. As someone else rightly said; a proper manager at last!

I second this!

"Lowe Don't Liebherr Anymore" by Rose Royce. hmmm, too reflective. "Liebherr Of The Gang" by G*ry Gl*tter. no no no. oh sod it, just seen the youtube video. DO that.

Pardew is a good name to have in the hat, that's my thinking. Good record, decent bloke, normally gets his teams to play a classic 'English' style but can utilise class if his got it in his squad, all round everything we want as fans. Not as quotable as some managers but talks sense instead.

Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink!!! I would love it if he came to Saints, I'D Love It! Sorry, went all Keegan there. Great striker and one of the best names in the history of anything ever.

I'll set 'em up...

So, cutting to the chase, is it Strachan, or not?

Aoooh!? Beer drinking women are the best. My girl loves her ale. Although she only drinks Guinness if she is ill (good for iron, blood pressure, white cell count etc) or abroad. Bust developer you say? Hmmm. So, either we move to Ireland or I convince her she's looking a bit peaky every friday before the pub? Latest opinion is; "It might not be Strachan, or it might be, I dunno. Look why don't you just wait till the game on saturday and give me a hand with the Chickens?"* -
Set the dogs on 'em?

Sorry Micky, I think you misunderstood me, as SotonJoe has explained, I was merely suggesting that the desire to be a soldier is something that is encouraged from an early age, often in the most seemingly benign of ways. I would in no-way undermine the ability of those who have the, to my eyes, deeply unenviable task of carrying out these military roles you suggest. My one token is that I am not sure I believe they ARE doing it so 'my' world is a better place. In fact, most of the time I think the opposite. This not the indivdual soldiers fault of course, it is the military machine of which they are but a tiny replacable part.

I've just asked the missus, a girl who drinks London Pride (although our local has recently switched to Ringwood Best) and she says; "Could be." !!! -
It looks like she's holding them back, in case they escape or somefink.

Can we combine the above and release, from a crane over the Northam, some white doves wearing flat-caps with poppies round their necks, to the sound of Jacko's 'Ben' through the main speakers whilst the Royal Gurkha Rifles demonstrate CPR on the pitch... ...have I gone too far?
-
I mean no disrespect to you DD, or to any other service personnel in or out of service, but the 'conning' and the falsehoods exist in our history and in our traditions and are re-enforced by each shift in society. Individually, the 'conditioning' starts with little plastic guns and John Wayne movies way before any of us get old enough to join up. As SotonJoe said, its the morals of machasmo; as a practising pacifist it's something I object to too. It's philosophical thing, I guess, made difficult to defend by the harsh realities of the world, but there you go.
-
Most people are rightly outraged by the glib nature of this comment. But I'd like to say - he has a point. A rather unworkable, impractical and overtly idealistic point, but a point none-the-less. What SotonJoe misses is that most of these people aint muppets, but they have been mugged. We are regularly told to celebrate the forces (particularly in Hants where all three are very well represented) and thank the individual soldiers for their 'bravery'. When in truth it's not bravery that takes these boys and girls to Afghanistan or the Falklands (etc) its f*cking politics, greed and mantaining the balance of power for the elite (not protecting or providing 'freedom'). Sadly so many of our young people, each generation, are conned by the (inglorious) history of the glory of war and believe it is somehow noble to kill or be killed for 'queen and country'. Frankly, that is ********; nothing noble in dying in the desert with plastic in your chest. "To die for his mothers country is in every fathers wish" Hmmm And PS; I do hope he gets better but I've always considered Hartson to be a right twonk. ;-)

...Rightio. I just popped over the road to my school and asked 24 kids to draw/describe the Swiss flag on a piece of paper. 14 got it spot on. Two nearly got it right but did the cross all the way to the edges and three got it the wrong way round. The others barely even bothered to try - with one asking "why?" and another asking "what are you doing in our class sir, where's Mrs.Bryce?" So 14/24, so about 58% of kids actually know what the Swiss flag looks like. Although I am not in Southampton, where, I should imagine, many more kids are now aware of what the Swiss flag looks like.
-
My guess is 85% of kids know what the Swiss flag looks like. I'll do a poll...

Lucy's stock has gone down in our house since she failed to even slightly flash her boobs or indeed wear anything other than a big sweater on last years big brother. Even Polaroid Girl (the missus) was disapointed. hopefully she'll be a bit more fun in the 'new era'.
-
I like this. the thing i really like is where you haven't quite finished re-colouring Wootons shorts, so it looks like he is wearing a yellow cape. kits with capes! it's the future of football. actual new away kit gets better every time i see it. retro.mmm.nice
-
So,the first player to leave in the 'new era' is the one player most fans would agree, erm, didn't fit at Saints and wanted gone. Good luck Bradley, enjoy Plymouth (there's no beach btw) and i hope you grow as a person and a player.
-
Liking all these rumours about WGS, I can be swayed by them and happy untill Adams is announced and then I could be disapointed and sad again. For what its worth; Dennis Wise is anything but thick - you might not like his ****ney barra boy personality or his history of rucks and 'pranks' but he is actually a very sharp chap now he has grown up. Wise and Le Saux dream time, maybe!?!? ;-)

I LOL'd too Saintjay. I find myself giggling like a school girl in 'the real world' too if anyone, anyone, starts a sentence with "I ask myself..."
-
Just seen Wotte being interviewed in his car, leaving staplewood for good. When asked who he thought Saints want as manaager he joked "Gus Hiddink? Oh no, he's Dutch, not good here!" See, these chaps would have got on, shame. ;-)

I think the translation adds a certain something. All good stuff.
