For all those wetting their pants over Saganowski....he was rubbish last season, did not set the world alight at Aalborg so don't expect too much. As Chez said....vastly overrated. And for all those Mcgoldrick knockers......he now has 10 goals and is on course for around 20 for the season. the same sort of number as Rasiak/John......the players who people think are God (for some unfathomable reason).
-
Perhaps, beacuse of what happened....... someone posted yesterday that Wotton had a go at McGoldrick in the tunnel before a game in front of both sides. And that he was not a good influence in the dressing room. Still.....don't let anything get in the way of your witch hunt eh guys??

Shock, horror....>Saints share price falls. In case some of you muppets haven't realised the whole world is in financial meltdown and virtually all share prices are dropping.

My god, just when you think this forum can't get any worse we have the schoolchildren arguing over JR and a fatal car crash. You couldn't make it up and to say it is in poor taste would be an understatement. Anything to have a pop at the current regime (players, management & board) seems fair game on here with the petty spitefulness and bitterness. And driving away sensible posters in their droves. Seems like quite a few on here live very, very sad existences and will pick over every single sentence uttered on the OS or anywhere else and look for a word or sentiment at which to start the petty, bitter tirades. Sure our club is really struggling, sure we have old board/new board not covering themselves in glory with their constant one-upmanship, yes the young team is struggling (but not all the time) and yes times are not great. But some need reminding this is only a football GAME not real life. There are far worse things happening in the world with people being hit by real tragedies - time to get a perspective methinks. How players not playing/out on loan suddenly achieve hero worship is mind boggling. Saganowski has failed at Aalborg (or they would want to keep him), Rasiak struggles to get a game at a very poor Watford side, John has 2 goals in 12 games for Bristol and Euell was eulogised by many on here when JP did not play him yet showed exactly why he was not played when he started. Whatever happens, the club will still be here - no matter what division we are in. And you know what......I have preferred the games where there have been smaller crowds this season because the support has been absolutely superb. Notice how the atmosphere changed(s) when the missing 1,000s turn up so they can get tickets for the Man U game. Don't see any sign of a boycott there.

They are all a bloody joke............... Chorley is rabble scum, together with that other rabble rouser McMillan (who is almost universally hated by other cab drivers). Crouch, McMenemy, Corbett, Lowe, Trant - they're all like little children in the playground and all seem to be fiddling whilst Rome is burning. They're all equally culpable for our current predicament and Wilde is a coward for not even attending. But then again, with the 'fans' we have I think we have all that we deserve.

My god, this place is like the Marie Celeste these days and no wonder! Posters like Navyred being forced out by the continual bitterness and shrewing of the crowd. Whenever we don't win a game, posters always have to find a scapegoat...be it McGoldrick, Lallana, Patterson, whomever - and most of those throwing the stones have not even been there to see the game! Why all the constant threads about Lowe? He's kept a low profile and it's about the team - our hands are tied by the Banks and we should be giving all our support to the young lads who are trying to move us forward. Yes, it's frustrating when we throw away 3 points like on Saturday but it's all part of the learning curve.....for those that preferred to watch last seasons overpaid, useless good for nothings......I am surprised. For goodness sake, get behind the team and manager instead of constantly slagging them off - for the first time in years we have a group of players who WANT to play for Saints rather than the money.
-
I'm with Chez on this one - thank God so many 'experts' on here have nothing to do with our team. McGoldrick ran his heart out yesterday - the real problem was with Robertson up front. After the Norwich game I thought we had a gem...since then he has struggled. Yesterday he could not hold the ball up, could not pass and was easily outmuscled. We looked far stronger when Patterson came on and he will only improve the more time he gets. There were times when he should have closed down their defenders with more enthusiasm/commitment but when he came on we looked far more dangerous up front. Likewise, when Gillett came on we started spreading the play far mroe than before.

Are you telling me Charlie that you believe this season is not better than last season? I can't believe you're saying that!
-
How exactly is it drivel you miserable SOB Alpine? Are you only ever happy when you're moaning? The point is these players are not world beaters and cannot even get in to their loan clubs sides.....and no, the sides are not any better. Watford are below us in the table.
-
Some interesting stats regarding our highly paid loanees that many feel would make us a good side: Rasiak Did not even make the bench yesterday and has scored 2 goals in 9 appearances (4 as sub) John Did not even make the bench yesterday and has scored 1 goal in 6 games (4 as sub) Saganowski Has scored 1 goal in 11 appearances (3 as sub) Perhaps these guys are not the panacea some think they are? All are past their best and having seen all 3 in pre-season (and this season) they cannot play in our new, fluid system. Quite frankly I would rather see Patterson or McGoldrick or White play ahead of these 3...they will only get better whereas those 3 will only get worse. None are doing well for their loan clubs as shown by the fact they are even struggling to get on the bench. Why on earth would we want them back?
-
Fantastic stuff....there's not many teams/players that would give up their Saturday evening for this sort of event. It feels like the spirit of Southampton is slowly returning - thanks to an honest, decent manager and a group of lads...most of who have been brought up from a young age playing for Saints youths, reserves and now first team.
-
yes it does Victor Meldrew - look at the text on BBC and see possession stats, shots on target, etc. You're a real beacon of hope amongst despair aren't you? This young team is getting better, are (on the whole) a joy to watch and want to play for Saints as opposed to their pay packets. We're not going to beat teams 6-0 every week......we have to be patient.
-
Sounds like we're murdering them but can't quite put the ball in the net. Hopefully second half we'll get the luck we deserve. Just think, Saints have had more shots on goal in the 1st half than they had in pretty much the whole of last season. Also sounds like Jamie White is having a good game for Shrewsbury (lots of shots) - hopefully he'll come back stronger and ready to step up to the 1st team.
-
We'll win tonight.........every time I'm out of the country on business or holiday we win! I'm going for 2-1 tonight. 3 points tonight and the outlook will look a whole lot rosier and hopefully we can start moving upwards rather than looking over our shoulder at the drop zone.
-
Disagree Junior......we have some real talent coming through: White Paterson Gobern Mills Imudia Argent Thomson to name but a few. All young and will only get better.
-
I would say it's far more likely that we will lose Schneiderlin and Kelvin in January....... this should bring in about 6-7 million which would hopefully make a difference to the dire situation we are in. No doubt in the summer, Lallana and Surman may have to be sold but hopefully not. Lets not forget that in the summer (if not before) we will likely be rid of Euell, Saga, Rasiak, Skacel, Davis, John and Thomas.........which will be a massive reduction on the wage bill though leaving us with no experience.
-
I don't get it....as Faz has pointed out the only place the Board is mentioned is on this forum - and with about 50 regular posters I don't see how this can be representative. Since Lowe has been back, he has made virtually no public utterances yet still he gets lambasted. The myopic few seem to have forgotten that the missing 1,000s were going to return once Lowe left....didn't happen though did it? Still I'm sure Morph will pop it's head up with some cryptic crap which people will wet their pants over as a sure sign everything is changing (again).

Saint Robbie - are you a skate or a complete knobber? A fantastic win and you still come out with the same old tripe. You are a one aren't you? Why on earth would you want Pardew over JP? JP is doing reasonably well with the hand he has been dealt and it's been far more entertaining watching Saints this season than for many a season.

My brother works in Dubai for a bank (UK). I'm going to see him next week - he's not happy at all right now. The common percepetion is that the Middle East has access to huge funds and the credit crunch won't affect them. Completely worng - my brother is responsible for interbank lending and he has stated there is NO liquidity in the Middle East. No-one will lend anyone else any money and the housing market is about to experience a major crash. Charlton's parachute payment runs out this season and they may well find themselves in our position next year.
-
Alpine - you're also missing the point that our youngsters also have resale value........which, sadly, is important based on the financial situation we are in and the fact the fans are not turning up in enough numbers to make us financially viable. And if, for arguments sake, Lallana goes for 5 million we then have White and Gasmi who can play the same role. Hopefully the side will stay together but you can never tell. Compare that to the pile of crap we had playing week in week out last season....... Saga Rasiak Euell Idiakez Wright etc and there is no resale value in them at all - and they were on stupid wages. Already this season, this younger, hungrier side has performed far, far better than last seaosns crap....and with spirit
-
and maybe, Alpine they're not playing because they're not good enough? Skacel has been absolute crap for Saints and is not interested. Thomas is very poor and injury prone - was he not played last season because Saints could not afford his appearance money? So what if Thomas can play RB (badly) - we have a young lad there who is growing into the role quite nicely and another promising one behind him (Hatch).
-
Looking at the Reserves side last night only Bart (who will probably never play for the first team again) was over 19. Yet the side looks strong....this can only be a good thing as when (not if) we lose players like Lallana then we'll have replacements for them. With the youth team now looking like it's getting back on track the futures bright, the futures orange.

21 shots on goal....more than the whole of last season?
washsaint replied to washsaint's topic in The Saints
Cheers FtF....I meant to say 21 shots not 21 on target. John Smith - the reason I raised the 'stay aways' comment was because this team deserve far better from us fans. They are starting to gel, give 110% and to see the vast swathes of empty seats is disheartening. On the plus side, every home game this season has seen tremendous support from those fans that do turn up. There has been none (or very little) of the negativity that has been present for a number of years at St Marys (from the crowd). -
4-4-2 whats happenend to Total football!
washsaint replied to SOTONS EAST SIDE's topic in The Saints
ummmmm......we did not play 4-4-2 last night. It was the usual formation as far as I could see. The good news is we are starting to look far more solid (but not watertight) at the back. -
For the 10 outfiled players that started last nigh the average age was 21.......and we only had 1 player over the age of 22 (Perry) with 8 of the 10 being under 21. Quite incredible that we were able to win..................the performance last night exceeded any of the play from the whole of the last season. We also started with 6 Academy graduates. In the same way we were not the worst side ever after 2 defeats (despite what many on here said), nor are we promotion material yet. But the young lads are learning quickly, are mixing their style of play and there is true competition for places. All has to be good....plus the worry that the nippers would be bullied by CCC bruisers is not coming to pass. Norwich tried to kick our lads all night long (Mills expecially) but we gave as good we got. Certainly gettiong mroe pleasure from watching these lads grow into good players and playing the right way than the mercenaries and has beens we have had for a number of years
