  1. Absolutely. Considering how well we've played this season at times it is a bit disappointing that we haven't finished higher but 7th is still an incredible achievement considering the summer we had.
  2. Definitely - City have got so many bodies back but still leave that high line so we need to try and get in behind it. Just need to time one run right and get one in the back of the net for it to work. JWP coming on now will hopefully be able to time that final ball a little better than Djuricic managed.
  3. Ah f*ck. Lampard's been doing that for 20 years, need to make sure we're not giving them space in the box.
  4. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/arsenal-transfer-news-arsene-wenger-sets-deadline-for-theo-walcott-contract-talks-with-liverpool-keeping-a-close-eye-on-his-future-10271839.html Walcott anyone?
  5. That's because footballers now have to be in peak physical condition - they're athletes really. Difficult to keep yourself in shape if you're out on the p!ss til 5am several times a week like some were in the 60's and 70's. I have to admit hearing some stories from my Dad about meeting and drinking with various Saints players in pubs all over town when he used to go in the 80's was quite funny. Wilshere and Sczeszny get hauled over the coals for having a sneaky fag now - I dread to think what would happen to the likes of George Best nowadays with his behaviour..
  6. Her voice is completely timeless. It's a cliche but you don't hear ones like this nowadays..
  7. Funny thing is I was about to turn it off about 20 seconds before the equaliser went in! If you're at Wembley though you make the most of it, no point in leaving before FT.
  8. That was intense! Pleased for Southend, I like them as a club so nice to see them back in L1. Bentley for Southend looks like a decent keeper as well, big character. Would be a huge step up for him but would he be worth a shot?
  9. Would be interested to get people's thoughts on this as the story seems to getting a bit of traction now - where does everyone stand on the possibility of us leaving the EU?
  10. I think we're descending into our rightful place on the world stage as a country - we're not the superpower that we once were. I think we'll always wield influence on the world stage but not from the kind of position that we used to back in the days of colonialism or even post-war. If you look at countries in terms of military might, the article suggests we're decreasing ours quite rapidly from its already fairly small number whereas countries like China are increasing theirs at an exponential rate - I think I read that they have a standing army of just under 3m (although they lack the capacity to actually transport more than about 150,000 out of the country). Economically we're still fairly high up the list in terms of GDP but there are some really dynamic economies developing with countries like Brazil and India experiencing massive economic growth over the last few decades, so I think we'll be overtaken by them at some stage in the near future. We're now essentially a service economy because we have no real manufacturing base anymore so we'll be fairly stagnant unless we experience some kind of boom which is unlikely. Even culturally we're not really a big influence anymore as everything seems to be very Americanised now (which I guess in a way is a culture based on ours so maybe we still have a little influence there!). So basically, we're not as special as we once were. But f*ck it, we still have the best football league in the world!
  11. http://www.thepoke.co.uk/2015/05/20/mad-max-posters-improved-dailymail-comments/ Few little gems from Daily Mail readers with regards to Mad Max [emoji38]
  12. Thanks for the write-up SA, Nigel always speaks very eloquently about the game and it's nice to get a bit of insider info into what was happening at the club during his time here.
  13. McGregor got dropped due to bad form and hasn't got back into the team yet - Sorensen is on his way out at Stoke as they want to give Butland more time in the first team. I would take either of them as backup tbh but I wouldn't be overly enthusiastic about having them in goal for the best part of a season while Fraser's injured. I would be tempted to test Brighton's resolve with a bid for David Stockdale. He had a good season for them, and despite their final position of 20th they only conceded around 50 goals which was one of the lowest in the league. He's played Prem football before and is pretty experienced at age 29. Would be a good option to have on the books as Fraser is a very good keeper who would keep most others out of the team when he's fit and available so it would be difficult to keep another top-quality keeper happy long term.
  14. We'll be unchanged apart from Kelvin in for Gazza. We played with Vic + Davis sitting in midfield with JWP ahead of them at City, imagine we'll see the same again but maybe with JWP a little less advanced to stop their play going through the middle.
  15. I doubt it, I think he has another year or two left to run on his contract so he'll probably see that out.
  16. I particularly enjoyed all the pundits today going on about his loyalty, commitment to Liverpool and the fact that you don't really see "one-club players" like Gerrard anymore. ....this is the same Gerrard that's going to play for LA Galaxy after his contract's up right?
  17. Mane, Long and Pelle were all outstanding - doesn't get any better than this! Is it bad that even after we thumped them 6-1 i'm still annoyed about Pelle's first goal being disallowed? Haha
  18. 3-0!!! WHAT THE ACTUAL F*CK!!!
  19. Mane again!!!! Actually 2-0 now!
  20. Get in Sadio! 2-0 to the Southampton
  21. F*cking typical - he was a mile onside and the lino couldn't have been in a better position!
  22. I have to admit that i'm not too well-versed in Sufjan's back catalogue - only albums i've really listened to are Illinoise and Carrie & Lowell. After listening to that song you've now launched me into a weekend-long journey through everything he's recorded!
  23. I think Mourinho is keen to move Ramires on in the summer and Fabregas doesn't really fit the deeper role - Morgan would probably end up playing alongside Matic if he went to Chelski.
  24. Are you alright Hypo? You seem to be quite abstract recently. One of these going out to you bud x
