There you have it, first time in 70 something years! Well deserved imo, i've only been watching the match this morning in full, highlights of the other days, and England have bowled really well today. I have to say though, I can only see Australia winning the series.

No thanks, we have enough older players in the squad. We need players in the peak of their careers, 25-30, to get us out of this league properly and quickly. We need to build, not sign players who we can only realistically squeeze another half season out of. Never really liked Holland in the first place either!
-
Don't forget that they were a club in the Premiership not long ago, not surprised that they're getting 12k average on the gates. It's the least i'd expect for us to get if we were playing at L2 level next year, but I do respect that they've been there for quite some time now, so it is quite a feat!

Gorre's contract expired at the end of the season and I thought he left after that. Slightly sad to see Killer off the site though, but I guess it's more of an emotional bond than one of admiration for his coaching abilities...our defence was dire when he took over as defensive coach!

Very happy with Pardew, would've preferred Strachan but realistically it was never going to happen. Hopefully he can get us into the play-offs (or better) this season and stabilise us in the CCC again. Any inside sources know of any players he particularly likes that would come to SMS? Murty was with him at Reading, as was Lita too..

I don't particularly want to know what CF was in your parts Jill.

That is awful, always admired him as a footballer even though other might have not and he seems like a top bloke too. Best of luck to him.

If it's Strachan I will actually run up and down my street in a Borat style mankini!!

Saga was great in our play-off season, but I think after that he's been a shadow of his former self. Even so, he'd terrorise L1 defences, but the fact that he has a 'calf strain' probably just means that he's holding out for a transfer. Would like to see us keep him though, ideally i'd like to keep one of John, Rasiak and Saga to play alongside a younger striker like McLaggon or Patterson.

I've been saying that we should sign Lee Trundle for years on the HCDAJFU threads on these forums, can't think of a better time to sign him than now! He's been a little iffy at Bristol City, but he was a goal machine at this level at Swansea, and he's hardly over the hill at 32. Could provide some good experience up front with a younger player like Patterson playing alongside him. Would also like to see us get Matt Oakley back in, he loves the club and he's one of my cult heroes because he took the time to write back to one of the childish letters I sent to various players at the club yonks ago, and he could still definately do a job for us in the middle of the park.

Football Manager 2009 - Southampton Save Game Thread

Yeah, FM09 has about the right difficulty level, other previous titles such as FM05 were ridiculously easy, I think I got Basingstoke up to the premiership in about 7 or 8 seasons and we were in europe the season after... Jacking this idea from the FMbase forum, what features would you like to see in FM10? For me: 1) U21/Reserve Manager Mode Able to manage international teams at U21 or U19 level if you so wish, and also to manage reserve teams at clubs with a certain reputation (say at least 4000). Also being able to delegate these roles at club level to coaches, ie making a certain coach Reserve Team Manager or something like that, like you can do at international level. This would be a good way to develop the skills of players that have taken their coaching badges and are nearing the end of their playing days. 2) More Managerial Data Manipulation I like the fact that you get an automated number of caps and goals if you select your past playing status as International, but i'd like to be able to manipulate playing data from my history, this could probably be quite easily done with a tool like FMRTE, so get cracking SI! Also being able to spend career earnings on things such as learning new languages to enable your prospects at getting a job as a manager abroad or getting youth coaching badges to tempt wonderkids to your club. 3) Kit and Sponsors When a kit design or sponsorship contract expires, i'd like to have some say in what replaces it. The chairman could offer you a list from which you could choose, simple template designs for kits and more detailed information about sponsors (ie company wealth, international recognition etc). 4) More Press Conference Options I want to be able to slag off a referee more often in press conferences, being able to view referee data in FM09 was a step forward, now I want to be able to release press statements about them like you can with other managers (ie SuperMikey believes that Mike Riley is biased). 5) More Playable British Leagues I know there are already 7 leagues, but i'd like to be able to manage a team in the Isthmian League, or at least to be able to see league data during the season so I can see how clubs are doing (as I usually play as lower league teams, so it would be relevant to me...) Just a few ideas - Matthew Le God, I hope you're taking notes! -

I feel slightly sorry for the bloke still, he's remained completely dignified and professional despite all the sh*t that has been going on at the club recently and I think we should've at least kept him on at the academy because he did seem to bring out the best in some of the youngsters at the club like James and McLaggon. While it's a shame that he's gone, i'm also immensely excited about the new managerial appointment at the club, and i've got every single limb or anatomical part that could be feasibly crossed, crossed in the hope that it's WGS!
-
I thought Holmes looked pretty useful as well. Good crosser of the ball, but maybe lacks the pace to run at his defenders and beat the final man.

I'd say offering contracts to potentially key players such as John, Rasiak and Davis is the priority before we start looking at transfers. However, there are certainly transfers that need to be made, seeing as Surman and DMG have already gone and Lallana seems to be wanting away. In that respect, this is what our first team should be looking like if I were in charge: GK - Davis, Bialkowski, Forecast RB - Murty, James LB - New LB, Mills CB - Thomas, Perry, Saeijs, New CB RM - Thomson, New RM LM - Holmes, New LM CM - Gillett, Schneiderlin, Wotton, Lallana ST - Rasiak, John, Paterson, McLaggon, New ST Send out on loan: Lancashire, White, Gobern, Pulis. That squad contains 24 players, which is more than enough to rotate the squad every now and then to prevent tiredness amongst the players. We have a decent enough squad to not need to sweep out the entire playing squad, we need to add good quality players to the team to help build on what we have, and that is what it looks like Mr Liebherr will want to do.
-
What SITS said basically. If we can get a better deal from another company then I don't say why not. Liebherr looks alright on the shirt, as evidenced by my super awesome 20 second MS Paint mock-up below:
