Jason Puncheon to Saints according to SSN
SuperMikey replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
Quality signing if true, I really really rate him. -
Suggestions? I liked the sound of Lee Carsley from Brum. He's fallen out of favour there and he's certainly got the experience and tenacity that would give our team a little bit more edge and drive. Perhaps get him on loan until the end of the season or just a 6 month contract because he's getting on a bit at 34/35.

Shame, I thought he really could've done some damage at this level. I sure as hell would've preferred playing for this club than the Hull City of the Greek Super-League. His decision though, hope it all works out for him. More importantly, who are we going to replace him with?
-
Brilliant news, feel a lot more confident about the upcoming games now with him back in the side. Wotton and James didn't really work that well on Saturday. James and Schneiderlin tomorrow please Pardew.

Ed O'Brien "Piracy isn't killing music". Discuss.

I get your point, but there's very little money for a band in making a record nowadays anyway. The Times or The Guardian (I forget which one it was) did a very detailed breakdown of exactly where all the album money goes and only a small percentage like 20% actually gets back to the band, which is then obviously taxed etc. All the money in being a band nowadays is in merchandising and touring, and both of those are on the increase. -
Beating the skates as long as we didn't lose by more than a goal against MK, meaning we'd still get into the JPT final

Exactly, I don't have enough money to go out and buy every CD out there, so if I hear something on the radio or on Spotify or whatever, I can get the CD and hear the band for what they are. I'm seeing a lot more live bands now as well than I did in the past, which bands actually make a lot more money out of than records. -
http://www.nme.com/news/radiohead/49390 Personally I think the guy's got a really valid point. My vision is for there to be a worldwide streaming service ala Spotify where you pay a monthly subscription fee (say £10) and have access to databases of albums of every record company that has signed up. Of course, this would take a while to reach full fruition, but with Spotify apps on iPods and phones now, I think it could be relatively easy to make happen. It makes sense too, if say 100 million people sign up to it straight away, you're looking at a £12bn p/a industry straight away there. Of course, more than 100 million would sign up, people would probably sign up in their billions, so I think the industry would actually end up making more money out of this kind of scheme. Plus touring, merchandising...the possibilies are endless. As Ed says, the music industry is analogue in a digital world, and it needs to change. I'd certainly stop downloading music if the kind of system that i've suggested was introduced. I'm sure there'd still be people avoiding the subscription fees and downloading illegally still, but i'm also sure that a lot of people would be tempted by the easy access to these databases.

Fixed it for ye Jilly. Fixed it for ye Hammy.

I agree that he is integral to the midfield in that respect, but I just think that aside from his decent defensive work he's not just got that much else in the locker. He only ever passes backwards or hoofs the ball up the pitch to nobody in particular, and he didn't really win many headers yesterday for quite a big bloke. Agree about the goal though, I think if he was on the pitch they might not have got through as easily as they did. However, as much as he's a decent player and important in our midfield, I just think that there are better options out there and that we shouldn't stick with Wotton in the long term. Does Schneiderlin not play quite a similar role? My pleasure

The highlights were farking sh!t anyway, probably about 20-25 seconds in total. For once I wish there was a decent highlights programme, hopefully this new 'local' one that's being launched will be good.
-
Might be that, but the way that english universities are decreasing places and cutting funding and scottish universities are increasing places and funding... got to be linked in some way.
-
The way I saw it we were playing Wotton as an anchor man. I might be wrong though (and probably are). In which case, we should play it more often!
-
We did look a lot better once we switched to 4-5-1, but I think instead of playing Wotton as an anchor man, we should play Lallana in the hole. Instead of ----DM----- --CM--CM-- RM------LM I think we should play ----CM---CM--- AMR--AMC--AML Lallana doesn't really suit the wing, I think we should play Holmes on the left and Antonio on the right as well. Could work, could not.

Thanks for the reply mate, appreciate that. Ought to have nae problems with the accent because I spend a lot of time in Perth which isn't far from there. Naturally spending a lot of time in Perth, i'm a St Johnstone fan as well as a saints fan (saints connection there) so might go along when they play in the city. The government is throwing money at scottish universities at the moment, decreasing funding and places at english ones and giving it all to scottish ones. Aberdeen itself got a £240m grant from the government recently...not bad eh?

He didn't start off too well with a couple of poor decisions but aside from that I think he had quite a good game. Nice to see that there are some sensible refs out there.

Whats going on with the whole Saga on the bench thing?
SuperMikey replied to Mr X's topic in The Saints
Say what you will, he's still an international level striker. Handy having one of those about if you ask me. He's asked for a move, but that's not materialised and I think if Pards can persuade him to stay here and do his best then we could potentially have another quality option up front. -
Mills was excellent today, he showed an awful lot of promise and I think Pardew has a dilemma on his hands here. One minor criticism though is his passing, he was too quick to hoof the ball up the left flank towards Holmes when there were other options available. Apart from that though, fantastic game from the lad.

Keano what's the score had me chuckling. Great to get one over on the c*nt, can't believe some people wanted him as manager here.

Just got back from the game, and what a result! Went thinking we'd sneak a draw and get a replay but i've come away really pleasantly surprised. Our fans were great today, made a lot of noise and the boys really upped their game to overcome quite a good Ipswich side. Was great to stick two fingers up at Roy Keane and get a bit of revenge. P*mpey in the next round please! Davis 6 - Didn't really have much to do in the first half, dealt well with heavy pressure in the second half. Thomas 8 (MoM) - Great performance from Thommo. Fantastic goal from him, and he was really solid in the air and strong in the tackle. Got caught out of position a few times but Lallana covered well for him. Mills 8 - A very close second for my man of the match. Average in the first half but really got stuck in well in the second half and made some excellent tackles. Does Harding have some serious competition now? Jaidi 7 - Very solid at the back, never lost a header and also made some brilliant tackles. Perry 7 - Did well against Stern John and made some good tackles, also cleared the ball off the line. Wotton 5.5 - For a supposed midfield 'hardman' he didn't really make himself very present today. Anonymous for most of the game apart from the odd hoof or backwards pass. Would rather see someone else start ahead of him on tuesday. James 6 - Made some good passes and linked up well with Lallana on the wing. Not his best performance, but did okay. Lallana 6 - Again, a bit anonymous but for a few good touches and passes. Obviously the guy isn't a winger and he doesn't really like to run at his marker. Would prefer to see Antonio or Waigo on the wing instead so that Lallana can play a more central role. Holmes 7 - Good game for him today. Always stuck by him when he was injured and on the fringe of the first team and said he'd come good, and he came good today. Couple of lovely passes including some very clever backheels and linked up well with Mills. Barnard 6.5 - Decent debut. Worked really hard up front but didn't have much time on the ball to do anything. Had a couple of good chances earlier on that maybe on another day he would've put away, but he's got the rest of his Saints career to make up for it (starting with a hat-trick against Brentford please!). Lambert 6.5 - Ipswich were all over him, marked him all day and didn't give him any room, but he still did okay. Couple of good flick-ons to carry on attacks and some good crosses and link-up play. Maybe he does need a rest though, looked quite tired out there today. Barnard and Connolly up front on tuesday methinks. Subs Gillett - Did alright, we've got better options in our squad although they're not available at the moment, so hopefully he'll stick around. Antonio - Did well when he came on, strong and pacy and converted a nice little tap-in to put us 2-0 up. Lancashire - Still a bit shaky, but with time his confidence will grow and he'll get better.
-
I don't think we should rest Lambo tbh, I think he's looked better and stronger in these last few games than he was before Christmas. If he's tired, give him a couple of days off before the games instead of training, we need him up front today. I'd preferably line up like: ------------Davis------------ Thomas--Perry--Jaidi--Harding --------James---Lallana------ Antonio----------------Holmes --------Barnie--Lambert------ Subs: Bart, Martin, Wotton, Mills, Waigo, Connolly, Saga A very attacking bench because I firmly believe that we can put a few past Ipswich. They've got a very poor defensive record and although they've not lost in 15 or something like that, I reckon we can still do 'em today with L&B up front. COYR!

Ormerod was an average L1 player signed out of the blue by a Prem team. God obviously didn't bless him with amazing technical ability or blistering pace, but he did work his arse off every week for us, which enabled Beattie to play how he wanted because he had somebody doing the running for him. Ormerod is still doing pretty well in the CCC with Blackpool now, I believe he's scored a few this season from his new position on the wing. As for Lambert and Barnard, i've got high hopes for these two. Both are established L1 strikers and they've both got good footballing pedigree coming from Liverpool and Tottenham's academies. How they'll play together though is anyone's guess, I had always thought of Barnard as a target man like Rickie is. The height difference isn't that noticeable between them that they'll be a "little and large" combination. We ought to have a lot more physical presence up front though! Lets start it off well by sticking a few past Ipswich today lads! COYR!

I've applied to Aberdeen but not had a chance to go up there and see the uni for myself. Would you recommend it?
