"It's still 0-0, but only thanks to Kelvin Davis." How many times have we heard that this season?
-
Agreed.
-
We're hanging on a bit at the minute! Come on Saints!
-
Hopefully McGoldrick plays as though he has a point to prove. Wouldn't be surprised if he ended up scoring a winner for us!
-
Saints don't do logic unfortunately. McGoldrick will be on soon.
-
To be honest they're doing a better job than what I'm hearing anyway!
-
The commentary I'm listening to is still at the Skacel incident! Very frustrating.
-
I think we do miss Schneiderlin and his passing ability, but we miss Holmes more. Holmes is very good at delivering balls into the box, staying out wide and having a go at players. We certainly feel his absence more IMO.

The first half was one of the strangest 45 minutes I've ever seen. To miss 2 penalties and conceed 3 when the oppo hadn't created one clear cut chance was unreal to say the least. Watford's only efforts came from their 3 set pieces which all, ultimately, led to goals. The most frustrating thing about today was that first half, and I don't want to sound like a broken record, but we actually were by far the better side. We passed the ball about well and created numerous openings. Second half however, we were chasing a lost cause and whilst we saw alot of the ball, we never looked like threatening and it was too comfortable for Watford. Defensively we have some issues. One positive is that we seem to have learnt how to win headers when the ball is hoofed up top to the oppo's forwards. On numerous occasions Olly and Wotton won their headers and looked solid enough. HOWEVER, we really need to work on our defending of set pieces. We always struggle to deal with balls that come across us, with a basic lack of communication, poor positioning and fundamental errors being the main reasons for today's defeat. Had we worked harder on defending set plays and taken our chances, may I be the first to suggest that we could have been on the over end of this 3-0 result. Watford never posed any real threat today and looked ordinary at best. It was one of those games where it could have gone on for another 90 minutes, and yet we still wouldn't score. With our next match just around the corner, we really have to roll our sleeves up and show that we have what it takes. 3 points at Sheffield United would be the perfect way to put today's defeat behind us.

I'd go with the following . . . ------------------- James ------------------ Brown ---- Ferdinand ---- Lescott ---- Bridge Walcott --- Barry --- Gerrard --- Wright-Phillips ------------ Rooney ----- Heskey ----------- I thought SWP looked lively when he came on the other day, and we're likely to create more with out and out wingers on either flank. I'd drop Lampard too as I'm in the 'they can't play together' camp, and I believe Gerrard is the better all-round player. Also, Barry sits in front of the back 4 very well, providing good protection for them. In theory, this should allow Gerrard to put himself about a bit and make an impact on the game.

Saints v Watford WIN Sheff Utd v Saints LOSE Swansea v Saints DRAW Saints v Coventry WIN Preston v Saints LOSE Saints v Bristol City DRAW Saints v Wolves LOSE Reading v Saints LOSE Saints v Plymouth WIN Charlton v Saints LOSE 3 wins and 2 draws IMO. Not great but that's a tough run of fixtures.

Ah now that one was deliberate! I'd give him number 12.
-
](*,) Somehow I managed to forget about him. My bad!
-
Just for a random, which players would you give squad numbers 1-11 to? For me it would be the following . . . 1. Davis 2. James 3. Mills 4. Schneiderlin 5. Perry 6. Svensson 7. Surman 8. Gillett 9. John 10. McGoldrick 11. Holmes

I thought booing Ashley Cole was a tad harsh and quite stupid to be honest. It's like David Pleat said whilst commentating, it's not as if he did it deliberately and booing him could have an adverse affect on the rest of his performance, as well as having an impact on the team as a whole. This 'fickle' mindset from England fans is one reason why we struggle to break down teams, especially at home. More often than not, it's the home crowd that create the nervy and tense atmosphere. If we had an atmosphere like the Scots did at Hampden today, then I think the players would be more relaxed when representing their country, and we may even see the likes of Gerrard and Lampard reproducing their club form for England. As for Saints, there have been an odd few occasions where the fans have booed the players off the pitch at the end of a game, with the Blackpool match being a prime example. I've no problem with people venting their feelings, but surely there are better ways than this? After all, what exactly does this achieve? If anything, it just makes our very young squad lose confidence.
-
Lets hope so anyway. I know it's nothing major but I do find it really quite frustrating. Having Stewart Downing at 2 and David Wheater at 9 just doesn't look right to me! Having said that mind, it's the only complaint I have about the game, as other than that it's pretty flawless.

I know we conceeded 4 in our last match but generally we looked poor all over the park; I see it as more of a 'bad day at the office'. However, before the Cov game we had just come off the back of 2 clean sheets in the league and had been unbeaten in 4 games, and that's with the same young defence. I don't understand people being overly concerned in truth. Yes, our defence is very young, with the exception of Perry and Svensson, and yes some mistakes are bound to be made, but these youngsters are learning fast and if you ask me they're not doing as bad a job as some are making out.

Good news. Cork has been really impressive since arriving on loan and fully deserves his call-up. I do hope Saints are able to extend his loan til the end of the season, as he's been first class for us.
-
Why are some people on here being so fickle and slating him already? If you look towards the start of the thread, most people are praising him for an impressive performance against Donny Rovers! Lancashire is a young lad who is learning the game, he is bound to make a few mistakes. He has said himself on the OS that it's a big step up and the pace of the game is much quicker and the tempo alot faster than what he has been used to. It's bound to take him some time to come to grips with the step up from reserves to first team. In the matches against Donny and Norwich (where we kept clean sheets in both) he has shown that he does have potential and could prove to be a useful player for us if given time and the right opportunities. To criticise a young defender after the Cov match is a bit harsh and a tad unfair if you ask me, especially considering there were very few players to come out of that game with any credit whatsoever.

Gasmi coming in will be good for us. Not only will it provide more competition for places, but it will be good to have a new face around the place. It will be interesting to see where Jan puts him too, as Lallana is looking pretty untouchable at the minute.
-
Anyone else finding it incredibly hard to have a shot on target from any sort of distance? I'm not on about scoring 30 yard screamers all the time, as was so easy to do on the last version, but I must be doing something wrong to not even be hitting the target!
-
Fully deserved too IMO. Lallana is a fantastic talent and given time, I'm sure he has all the abilities to make it right to the top.
-
Kelvin had heard of some interest from other clubs and on deadline day he turned his phone off so that no-one could get hold of him! It was in the programme a few games ago I think, saying how he really loved the club and the fans, and just didn't want to leave. Fair play to him!
-
One thing I like about Mills is how he isn't afraid to get stuck in. For quite a small lad, he certainly gets up well for his headers too. He looks very promising and I'm sure there's more to come. We don't want to put too much pressure on him just yet mind!
