From the looks of it, Jewell wasn't too impressed by Powell's debut. So much so that he's already signed another defender! http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11688_4557340,00.html

Sorry for playing stupid but what is this exactly?
-
I'll be there with the ol' man, my brother and a mate. Should be a good day out and I fancy us to come away with something! Sounds as though we're going to be well supported again which is always good news. Well up for this one, COYR!

Obviously with the January transfer window just around the corner, the FM09 player database will soon be out of date. I was just wondering if there will there be a patch released to update all squads once the window shuts again?
-
I was made aware of Webster's departure also, but I do find it odd that there is absolutely no mention of it whatsoever on the OS. They could at least keep the fans updated couldn't they?
-
Impossible to judge. Gasmi only made a brief appearance and struggled to get into the game. Will take him a while to adapt to the English game so could be a while before we see the best of him.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/southampton/7746444.stm I'd noticed there has been another bloke appearing to be helping with the coaching side of things in recent matches. Seems this would explain it! Anyone else noticed this guy sitting in the dug-out for the last couple of games?
-
Knowing Saints we'll probably lose but I'm hoping for a 2-1 win.
-
Signing Pulis and Gasmi seems to make more sense now. Perhaps they are ready made replacments for Lallana and Schneiderlin?
-
The only players that would fetch a decent fee would be . . . Lallana - £2.5m Davis - 750K Surman - £2m Scheiderlin - £3m If we are able to sell the likes of Saga and Skacel though, then we MAY be able to hold onto the above players until the end of the season. The problem is, I don't think Dyer, Saga et al have done enough for clubs to come knocking and be willing to pay a half decent fee for them.
-
Pulis isn't a loan but Smith is. We have him until January I believe.
-
In an ideal world I'd sign Cork, Pearce and Robertson but for numerous reasons that's very unlikely! If I had to choose one, it would be Cork. He's a top talent but Chelsea would be very reluctant to sell IMO. Not to mention the fact we would struggle to afford him.
-
Lallana very much wants to stay at Saints this season. If we do lose him, it will be down the the financial situation we find ourselves in. Great shame really but fingers crossed we can keep hold of him. It looks increasingly unlikely however.
-
LM is a decent prospect IMO. As already mentioned, he does lack experience but here would be the perfect place to get some. Would be nice to have a proper LB playing too, although Skacel has been doing well of late to be fair. If true, me thinks that he would be a replacement for Skacel though, who is set to leave in January for Ipswich.

Have to admit, Perry was top draw today, but lets not brush over Cork's performance too. Together, they defended brilliantly and it will be interesting to see if Poortvliet sticks with the same 11 for the Plymouth game.
-
Agreed. This has been our main problem with the formation. At times we've struggled to support the lone striker, but with McGoldrick playing closer to Robertson and BWP, Lallana and Surman quick to add their support, the formation clicked today and we got a little glimpse of the 'total football' that Poortvliet has been banging on about.
-
I think the return of Robertson had a bigger impact IMO. He is alot stronger than McGoldrick and can hold the ball up much better. Not only that, but he wins more in the air and gets in the faces of the oppo defence. Having said that, I think we see the best of DMG when he is 'in the hole' or out wide as he is better when the ball is at his feet, which in part, helps to bring others into play.
-
First off, I just want to start by saying what a superb result the 'boysh' produced today. Great support from the fans too! However, I've noticed that a few people have been saying on the post-match thread how we lined up in a 4-4-2 formation. That's not true! The team started up as follows . . . ---------------------- Davis ------------------------ James --------- Perry --------- Cork ----------- Skacel -------------- Surman ---- Schneiderlin ------------- Lallana ------------ McGoldrick ------------Wright-Phillips ------------------- Robertson ----------------------- The main difference today though, was that Robertson held the ball up brilliantly, bringing McGoldrick into play in the process. Not to mention the fact that Lallana and Surman made some cracking runs throughout the game. Even BWP played well! To summarise, we didn't play 4-4-2, but the players movement and their desire to run for every ball made the 'Dutch' formation work brilliantly today. Full credit to Poortvliet, the 'boysh' and the fans that went. Great effort. We just need to follow this up with a win against Plymouth now . . .
-
To be fair the majority on here were predicting similar results, myself included!
-
Phenomenal. Every player was superb from start to finish. The fans were something else. Follow it up with a win on Tuesday FFS!
-
I'm not a massive fan of Thomas but we could definitely do with him at the minute. I also think someone like Lancashire would benefit from playing alongside a more commanding and physical CB. If our defensive problems fail to improve, then the sooner WT is back, the better!

http://entertainment.uk.msn.com/tv/features/article.aspx?cp-documentid=11155696>1=61503 So long as he doesn't give up Gillette Soccer Saturday then I'm not bothered.

Tomorrow, as we all know, Saints go to Reading facing a massive task to come away with a point, yet alone 3. There is a very real possibility that we could end up losing by 3, 4 or maybe even 5 goals, but can we make sure of one thing . . . If that is the case, then can we not have a load of negative, anti-Lowe threads on here? Reading are on fine form and their home record is phenomenal. Can we just make sure there are no over-the-top reactions to the game tomorrow? Similarly, in the unlikely event that we do come away with something, can we not over-react by saying, 'this is the turning point' etc. With just under 4,000 fans going, it promises to be a superb away day, but lets just concentrate on enjoying the day, getting behind the lads and showing them that we will continue to support them. My god they're going to need our support tomorrow!

The thing that makes me doubt this rumour the most is that Lallana isn't an Arry signing. When he took the Spurs job, it was made very clear that Redknapp would be signing the players.
-
If true it will be interesting to hear Wilde/Lowe's response. So much for building a young team for the future!
