Wolves and Swansea were the worst away days by far this season. We got absolutely battered in both games and were fortunate not to have lost by more!
-
Reading away for me. Purely because I went to the game with no expectations at all. To come away with all three points, and to totally play Reading off the park was fantastic.
-
I don't think that's the case. I think a lot of it is to do with people not understanding just how in the brown stuff we really are. It gets to me when people say, "Yes, but small donations won't make a difference!" and "Me attending won't save the club!" The thing is, if everyone had this attitude, sod all would get done and we wouldn't have a club to support. Please, to all Saints fans, if you have the money, if you're free Saturday, go to the game. Bring the family, bring your mates, just make sure you're sat in St Mary's at 3pm on Saturday. COYR!

I just don't understand why we haven't sold out already. OUR club's very future is at risk. Forget about the fact that we will probably go down. Forget about the fact that a number of our current squad aren't good enough. IF Southampton FC survives, these players will move on, but us fans will remain. Make the effort, go to St Mary's for possibly the LAST TIME EVER and make some noise. Lets hope we're around next season. COYR!

I looked at this thread expecting to see something along the lines of Mark Wright set to join us as manager from next season. Wasn't expecting this at all! Surely it's not true? Don't see how this move would be of benefit to the Football League?
-
Rubbish. James is right-footed!
-
Afraid to say it, but I agree with you. We just have to hope that the new owners, if there are any, have a bit of money to invest into the first-team. Otherwise we could struggle to stay in League One! Who'd be a Saints fan ay!?
-
I fear it has to get worse before it can get better. Starting life in League One on -10 may be as bad as it gets. A lot depends on who, if anyone, takes charge of the club too.
-
How do you re-train players into new positions? Would quite like to convert Lallana into a solid right-midfielder as I don't have any funds to sign a new player. Any ideas? Cheers in advance.

Good points you put across in fairness, and I genuinely hope you're right! I'd love Davis to stay, but won't hold my breath. You do get the impression that Kelvin really enjoys playing for Southampton, and on the odd occasion I've spoken to him, he always mentions how he likes living down south. Maybe he would be willing to spend a season in League One (on a lower wage) trying to help us get back to 'where we belong' as it were. As club captain, he seems to have taken responsibility and thrived in his new role. Fingers crossed he does remain a Saint. Would give me a bit of belief going into next season too. The prospect of Forecast, Bialkowski and Poke fighting for the number 1 spot doesn't inspire me with confidence . . .

What are Saints players current transfer values
Bailey replied to The Fat Controller's topic in The Saints
I might be wrong, but I thought that Kelvin Davis, Stern John, Rudi Skacel and BWP were all out of contract at the end of the season, so we wouldn't get any fee for them should they leave. As for the rest of them, here's what I think . . . Rasiak - 500K Saganowski - 500K McGoldrick - 750K Lallana - £1m Surman - £1m James - 250K Schneiderlin - £1m Dyer - 500K You have to remember, clubs interested in any of our players know how bad our financial situation is, and so that works to their advantage. They would be able to offer less than normal, and we'd most probably be forced to accept their bid. McGoldrick may cause some interest after netting 13 goals so far this season. Having played a large majority of the season in midfield, that's not a bad achievement. Lallana clearly has potential, as does Surman, and so we might get near the million pound mark as there is bound to be more than one club interested. A potential mini-bidding war could push their price up somewhat. Same goes for Schneiderlin too. Whilst Lloyd James hasn't been our best player this season, he's done a decent job all things considered. This has been his first season in the first-team, and baring in mind he's naturally a midfielder, he's done pretty well at right-back. -
Would be a sound signing for us in League One, although I don't believe this rumour. With all the off-field uncertainity at the minute, there is no way we are in a position to look at potential signings. Would be more than happy if he did re-join us though! Whilst he's not the greatest footballer ever, he makes up for it in passion.

Forever the optimist. Any reason for your positivity? Genuine question.

The one and only candidate for our 'Player of the Season' award. He has been first class this season and but for his heroics in goal, we would be relegated already. I've not always been his biggest fan, but he's been superb for us on the whole. If we had 11 players out on the pitch every Saturday with his attitude, then we wouldn't be in the position we're in now. I hope he finds himself a decent club where he will be really appreciated next season.

Would have been a lot sooner had Poortvliet still been here IMO. We were struggling for a point, yet alone three under Jan.

Matthew Le Tissier: "I'd just like to see the club debt free and on an even keel. If that means we have to start in League One and build up again, then so be it, but so long as the club is again on a sound financial footing and the long term future of Southampton is secure, then that's best thing. "If that means that the football has to suffer for a little while then we have to take that. The fans have to understand that, back the football club and back us to get back to where we feel we belong." No truer words have ever been spoken IMO. Now that League One football is almost a certainty next season, as fans of Southampton Football Club, we need to turn our attention and focus on keeping OUR club alive. Almost everyone on here has accepted that we're down this season, so now is the time to just get together, attend the Burnley game and show how much this club means to us, and to any potential investors. If you had a choice of no Southampton at all, or starting life in League One on -10 with new owners, new players, new manager and a new found belief, then I know what I'd choose. We need to go through these low points and tough times in order to appreciate the good times more. Southampton FC will be back.

Gutted about this. He's made such an impact since he's been here!

Hmm, makes you wonder what our team will look like next season too. With so many first-team players out of contract, we could be back to square one with a bunch of kids. Just have to hope that the new owners, if there are any, have a bit of money to invest into the first-team. Possible line-up with no additional signings? ---------------------- Forecast/Bialkowski ----------------------- James/Hatch --- Perry/Lancashire --- Thomas/??? --- Mills/Molyneux McLaggon/Thomson -- Wotton/Gillett -- Pulis/Gobern -- Holmes/Smith ------------ Paterson/White ----- McGoldrick/??? ---------------- With McGoldrick bagging himself 13 goals this season, there may well be a bit of interest from Champ teams, possibly newly promoted? No guarantee that Perry and Wotton will stay, and to be honest, I wouldn't lose any sleep if the latter left. Thomas is no doubt on a relatively big wage, and so I wouldn't be surprised if he left, although he could be quite useful in League One.
-
He did say realistic. Peterborough are more than likely going to be promoted to The Championship.
-
By the way, at the start of the season, I predicted that Leicester would win League One, with Peterborough finishing in 2nd. Leeds were my bet to win the playoffs too! If only I'd put my money where my mouth was . . .
-
Well done to Nigel Pearson and his Leicester City side. How ironic that they will more than likely be taking our place in The Championship next season . . .
-
Well, on the bright side, at least Wotte won't be here next season, assuming there is a next season of course. Pretty much a brand new playing squad, a new manager, new owners, and a new division with a load of new away days. Clutching at straws?
-
I know hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I can't help but think what might have been had Pearson been in charge this season . . . He would almost certainly have got us playing with a lot more fight and passion that we've seen this season.
-
I don't think it's a case of the players not caring enough. Granted, they might not care as much as us fans, but then why would they unless they support the club? It's more down to the fact that the players aren't good enough, and that the formation we insist on playing doesn't work for us.
-
Game over. Season over. Best case scenario - Start life in League One on -10. Worst case scenario - No more Southampton FC.
