Reluctantly I'd accept a bid of £1m for Surman. I know people criticise him on here, but IMO he's a decent player who has just struggled for form at times this season. He's one of our best players and I'm not surprised that he's being linked with the likes of Newcastle. If we get a buyer and are then in a position to keep Drew, then I'd be delighted as he'd be first-class in League One. However, that looks increasingly unlikely and so I'm resigned to the fact that Surman will leave at some point during the summer.

Sam Sodje has been released by Reading. HCDAJFU and has shown that he's a decent player in League One. David Connolly, Dwight Yorke and Darren Ward are three of seven players released by Sunderland too. All of them CDAJFU.

So, if we cannot afford to pay our players, doesn't that make them free agents?

I'd be a bit gutted if Strachan did go to P*mpey, but I wouldn't think any less of him. What he did here at Saints was nothing short of phenomenal and he'll go down in our club's history. The question I'd ask would be, would the P*mpey fans be happy with his appointment? Nope, pretty sure I remember Strachan saying something along those lines too.

Ridiculous money. Jones is a good player, but never in a million years is he worth £20m. Sunderland should have taken that money and signed a replacement in the summer!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/sheff_wed/8068325.stm As it says on the tin really. Could prove to be a good signing for another Championship team. We won't get much for him in terms of a transfer fee, but once again, it seems that wages are the problem. Makes you wonder what he's on and who would be willing to match his demands.

Euell and BWP should be good for us in League One and I hope they stay. Obviously these contracts will be on much reduced terms, and rightly so, but I hope that they both agree to them and make the effort to get us back into The Championship. After all, they do owe us for this season. Whilst Euell has divided the fan base ever since he's been here, I feel that we could do with someone like him in the heart of our midfield. He's committed, industrious and isn't afraid to get stuck in. He's experienced too and this season has proved that we need a few older heads around the first-team. As for BWP, I believe he has the potential to score plenty of goals in League One. If he is playing regularly in attack, and we get a manager who can get the best out of him, then he could play a pivotal role for us next season.

McGoldrick has potential and this season he's proved that he's good enough for The Championship. He's scored 14 odd goals and considering he played a lot of games in midfield, that's not bad going. Add to that the fact that he's been playing in a losing side and his goal tally looks very respectable. Whilst he isn't the most industrious of players, McGoldrick consistently scores goals and you can't argue with that. Yes, he can come across as arrogant and unbothered, but like him or not, he gets his name on the scoresheet and ultimately that's what he's paid to do. I am not at all surprised to see him being linked with Championship sides, and a move to Forest could be very tempting considering it's his home town club and I think I'm right in saying he's a fan too. If he does move, which is very likely IMO, then I'd put money on him bagging at least another 10 goals next season, providing he plays regularly and is given a chance to impress. You can guarantee that if he does go to another team and starts banging in the goals, that there will be somebody on here saying how yet ANOTHER ex-Saint got on the scoresheet today and how we should never have let him go!

Whilst Wotte is saying the right things and from what we know, doing the right things, talk is cheap and people seem to be forgetting that tactically he was very naive at times. The diamond formation worked at first, but Wotte refused to change his tactics when it wasn't going to plan. Whilst I respect Wotte for continuing to go with the 'business as usual' policy, I feel that if a takeover is forthcoming, then we need a clean sweep all round; new manager, new players, new impetus, new start. I wouldn't be too unhappy if he reverted to his role as Academy Manager, but I don't want to see him in charge of the first-team.

Lundekvam was a brilliant player for Southampton and a fantastic servant to the club. He was a first-class captain for us and we've never replaced either he or Svensson in the heart of our defence. However, the words 'legend' and 'role-model' are not appropriate IMO. It's been well publicised that he always enjoyed a drink during his playing days, and I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that, but this certainly isn't the type of 'role-model' I'd want my kids to look up to. Add to that the fact that he smokes too and it's hardly the habits you'd want a Premiership footballer to have! Anyway, there is no way that anybody can condone what Claus has done re: drink-driving offence. If guilty, he should hold his hands up and accept his punishment. There is no way his actions can be justified. Drink-driving is something that cannot and should not be tolerated at all. Whilst I'll always love and appreciate what Claus did on the pitch at Saints, his actions that have come to light today disappoint me greatly.

If Kelvin signed a new deal it would be a massive boost for us. He's been nothing short of superb this season and had it not been for his heroics we would have been relegated long before the close of the season. I really, really hope he stays. When you get to his age, it's not all about the money. His family are settled, he enjoys living in the area and he's arguably been playing the best football of his career. One things for sure, if he does stay at Saints then the fans will absolutely love him and he'll make himself a bit of a legend IMO. Here's hoping anyway. SUUUUUUPER, SUPER KELV! SUUUUUUPER, SUPER KELV! SUUUUUUPER, SUPER KELV! SUPER KELVIN DAVIS! :smt041

Hopefully Fry is too busy talking to potential investors to take time out to give quotes for an article to be uploaded to the OS.
-
Serious respect to all those involved. Hopefully these events prove to be great days/nights out and here's hoping it makes a few quid to keep the club going too. Fair play to everyone!
-
Nothing new on South Today. Was hoping they could shed some light but no luck.
-
The fact that it's gone so quiet suddenly suggests to me that a deal may still be possible, be it with the Pinnacle led consortium or some other group/individual. Maybe Fry announced that a sale is 'unlikely' in a bid to force potential investors into making a formal bid NOW before it's too late? Who knows, but I'm forever an optimist! Lets hope we hear something soon.

Would rather have Hoddle personally . . .

Matt Richards as has already been mentioned is a good shout, especially if Joseph Mills leaves on a free. Lewis Gobern has been released from Wolves too. HCDAJFU. His brother is our very own Oscar and so I'm sure he'd jump at the chance to join us. Has potential and could do a job for us in League One.
-
Horrible news, thoughts with his family. RIP Dean.
-
I've heard the Reading Youth Coach who's name escapes me and Coventry's Steve Kean are on their shortlist. Time will tell I guess.
-
Hardly. MB isn't saying that this press conference will definitely take place, just passing on what he's heard. As he's already stated, he has his doubts as to whether this rumour is true anyway! No reason why he should be slated for letting us fans in on a text he's had. Oh and I've reached 1,000 posts! Does that mean any rumours I post have more credibility now!?

Martinez likes to have his squad for the new season in place well before most other teams, add that to the fact that we desperately need money and it makes sense for Swansea to come in with a low offer. I'd expect Saints to do the same if we were in their position. No doubt Dyer will end up joining them on a permanent basis eventually, but it's just a question of who gives in first, Swansea or Saints. If we can get a fee of around 500-750K then I think we've got a relatively good deal, even if we do get taken over in the coming days.
-
http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/?page_id=11760 Fair play to Wotte for getting on with his job even though there's a good chance that he'll be out of the job soon enough. Whilst I don't believe he's the man to take us forward, he's been saying and doing all the right things of late so full credit to him.
-
I'd be gutted if we lost Gillett. He's one of the few players that I would really like us to keep and I can see him becoming a star player for us next season, providing he stays at St Mary's. Fingers crossed we reject any bids for him and that he remains a Saint for the foreseeable future!
-
Nope, me too! Not a bad job either IMO.
-
Or is he hinting at a former Spurs player leading the consortium? Ramon Vega anyone!?
