We should look to bring in Volz as a replacement for Murty if he's going to be out for some time. We can't just have James as our only option at RB, especially considering it's not his natural position. So gutted for Murty. He's been first-class for us so far this season and we'll certainly miss him. We're much more balanced as a team when he plays and we're going to miss his experience too. Fingers crossed he's not out for as long as first feared, but it's not looking good.

As a number of people have said, it's more than likely that Reading and Watford are the two teams chasing Rasiak's signature. Not bothered by him leaving either. Don't get me wrong, a fit and motivated Rasiak would score goals for fun in this division, but he doesn't want to be here so there's no point in keeping him. Same goes for Saga, if a decent bid comes in, we should accept it and move on as we can't have players at the club who aren't committed to the cause.
-
Sounds like a bad one, not good news at all. Murty has been first-class since joining and we will feel his absence. James isn't good enough at RB for me and I think we need to get a replacement in, be it on loan or permanently.
-
Agreed, but it's going to take time, we'll get there in the end. We've just got to trust Pardew and be patient. He's had feck all time to work with the squad and he's slowly but surely building his own side. Keep the faith.

Pardew continues to impress me with what he says in his pre and post-match interviews. He always gives an honest and open account and it's very refreshing to hear.

What is the general consensus on here with regards to Rasiak and Saganowski? Do you want them to go as neither of them want to be here? Do you hope that nobody comes in for them so they remain at Saints? Or how about Pardew forcing them to stay by rejecting any bids that are forthcoming? Personally, I want both of them to go. Don't get me wrong, if they are fit and motivated, then they would run riot in this division, but it's not good having players at the club who see their long-term future elsewhere. I'd much rather we got rid sooner rather than later and replaced them with a couple of younger players who are committed to the cause and want to be here.

His agent seemed to think he was, but no-one else did!

If you think about it, this rumour could have some mileage. Brighton have just signed a winger from Wovles, and rumours on here suggest Holmes is on his way to Bristol Rovers. Time will tell on this one . . .

Interesting one from Pards. It suggests to me that AP hasn't been able to bring in one of his primary targets, and so has dipped into the loan market as a short-term solution to our defensive problems. If it works out well with Trotman and Preston are happy, we will no doubt extend his loan til the end of the season, but anything beyond that is unlikely as he's held in very high regard up in Lancashire. Wouldn't be too surprised to see us sign another defender on a permanent basis before the window shuts either, but time will tell. It's good to see that Pardew has signed a defender though. I hope Trotman goes some way to sorting us out at the back, especially when it comes to defending and attacking set-pieces. I expect he'll partner Thomas at the back on Saturday now, as I don't think AP is happy with Perry being first-choice.

Ok, I've just listened to the interview again and Pards said the following: "Some of the information for Swindon I wanted hasn’t come through yet, and I find that unacceptable if I’m honest." Take note of the word 'yet' in that sentence. Nothing to suggest he didn't get the information he wanted in the end, just that he didn't receive it as quickly as he would have liked.
-
I don't think Pardew actually said he didn't have any reports on Swindon, I think he mentioned that he was 'still waiting' for reports to come through at the time the interview on Saints Player was conducted. Will have another listen to it now though.

I'd like to see a midfield quartet like this: Lallana - Schneiderlin - Hammond - Holmes In an ideal world, Lallana would be playing in attack just off of Rickie Lambert, but until we sign a right-midfielder, he's the best we've got. Jake Thomson is decent but isn't quite ready yet, he's still more effective as an impact player coming off the bench in my opinion.
-
Hmm, it didn't sound as though we 'were on top' at any point last night, nor did it sound as though we created 'some good chances'. Concerning that Pards has come out with these comments, but then maybe he's just protecting the players and trying to improve their confidence. Still, in Pardew we trust.
-
I'm still completely behind Pardew, but some of his tactics and team selections are concerning. I appreciate that it's going to take time to turn things around, especially considering our players have been so used to losing, but to roll over and be totally outplayed by Huddersfield AND Swindon is just not good enough. Really hope we can kick-start our season with a win against Brentford on Saturday!
-
Lallana is one of the most gifted technical players at the club, to sell him would be ridiculous. Admittedly, one of his downfalls is that he doesn't have a set position, but fingers crossed Pards can find his best position and get him reproducing some of the performances that caught the eye of some Premiership sides.

Pardew's team selections and tactics are starting to concern me. I appreciate that things won't improve overnight, which is why I feel slightly stupid for even questioning AP so soon into his reign, but he has made some baffling decisions. I can't understand why he insists on playing Wotton ahead of Gillett. Hopefully the arrival of Hammond will result in PW dropping to the bench, but even so, I feel sorry for Gillett. He must be scratching his head wondering what he's got to do to get into the team. I'd be interested to hear Pardew's opinion on him and why he doesn't select him. Same applies for Holmes too. Why can't he get in the side? He's our only natural left-midfielder and he'd do a far better job than Lallana. I rate Lallana, don't get me wrong, but he's not a wide player at all. Again, I would like to know why he hasn't even got near the first-team. Choosing Lancashire ahead of Perry was strange too, although maybe Pards decided to rest Perry as there are a lot of games to come and CP isn't getting any younger. Fingers crossed he'll be back in the side for the visit of Brentford though.

Message to club - Any DANGER of signing a CB or two
Bailey replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Saints
I forgot about Mills, but I'd happily have either he or Holmes at left-midfield. Can't understand why Holmes can't get near the team. If the rumours are true that he's on the verge of leaving, then I find it baffling to be honest. He's our only natural winger and arguably the best left-sided player at the club. -

Hate to say it, but Pards has got a bit to answer for tonight. His team selection was baffling to say the least. Why is Gillett not in the side? Why is Holmes nowhere to be seen? Why play Wotton when he clearly isn't up to it? Why wait til stoppage-time before bringing Rasiak on? For me, our best team would be this: Davis Murty - Perry - Thomas - Harding Lallana - Schneiderlin - Hammond - Holmes Lambert - Saganowski Subs: Bialkowski, Lancashire, James, Gillett, Gobern, Rasiak, Paterson -
Where have you heard the news about Holmes? I appreciate you can't name your source, but how reliable is it? Makes no sense whatsoever to sell Holmes as he's our only natural winger! I agree, but unfortunately I don't think we have anyone else. James isn't effective enough in that position IMO, and Thomson isn't ready just yet, he's more of an impact player.
-
I actually think it's more to do with the team selection. Lallana isn't a left-midfielder, Wotton isn't good enough and the team is unbalanced. Ideally, I'd like to see this quartet make up our midfield: Lallana - Schneiderlin - Gillett/Hammond - Mills/Holmes
-
We definitely need some new signings, even if Hammond's move does go through tomorrow. We're light in defence, and we need at least one centre-back as Perry isn't getting any younger, Thomas is injury prone and Lancashire isn't quite ready yet. A big, physical defender who's proven at this level is exactly what we need. I also think we need some strikers to replace Saganowski and Rasiak if they leave. Jackson from Gillingham and Sharp from Sheff Utd would be good, and they're realistic targets too IMO. Finally, we could do with a right-midfielder. Lallana isn't a winger and Thomson can't be relied on all season. Not sure who we could look to bring in, but it's a position that we do need to strengthen before the window shuts.
-
I don't think this one will happen, at least I hope not. Just because Exodus is massive and he has a long throw, doesn't mean he can cut it in League One. I'm convinced we can do a lot better, and fingers crossed we'll bring in someone of proven quality at this level.
-
Hammond sounds like a good player. I've just spoken to a Brighton supporting mate and he rates him. He said that he could definitely do a job in the CCC and at 400K we've got a real bargain. Hopefully Hammond's imminent arrival will result in Wotton being dropped to the bench, but I can't help but feel slightly sorry for Gillett. He must be scratching his head and wondering why he can't get in the team. He was a regular for us last season and was one of the few positives to take from an otherwise miserable campaign.

I'd like to see us line up as follows: - Davis - Murty - Perry - Thomas - Harding James - Schneiderlin - Gillett - Holmes Lambert - Lallana Subs: Bialkowski, Lancashire, Mellis, Gobern, Wotton, Paterson, Rasiak However, I expect us to line up like this: - Davis - Murty - Thomas - Perry - Harding James - Wotton - Schneiderlin - Lallana Lambert - Paterson Subs: Bialkowski, Lancashire, Mellis, Thomson, Gobern, Saganowski, Rasiak
