Not unbothered, but possibly less bothered than those you've mentioned because its become the norm now - and the move to Liverpool is a well-trodden path! Not knocking Sadio at all as I think he has potential to go right to the very top, but he wanted to go and we've got top dollar for him. It's good to get the deal done nice and early in the window so we can pursue our own targets. On to the next one! -
Agreed - including a very good Wanyama replacement...!

Out of the names Guan mentioned, Emery would give us the best possible chance of taking us to the next level. Would he want to come here, though...? Howe, while a very good manager, isn't the 'name' we need to settle and appease the players, and AVB is a risk too given how his stints went at Chelsea and Spurs. I like Moyes, but he's the wrong fit for us at this time. Would be viewed by many as a step backwards and I'd be inclined to agree.

Post-Match Reaction: SAINTS 3-0 Norwich City
Bailey replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
I can often be quick to criticise JWP, so credit where it's due - today was the best I've seen him play for some time. He was strong in the tackle and dictated play with some fine passing. Let's hope he keeps that kind of form up for the long-term! Romeu also very impressive, didn't put a foot wrong and will only get better with a consistent run of games. Interested to see how his partnership develops with Clasie. And a word for our forward players too - great to see Tadic, Mane, Rodriguez and Pelle all on the pitch. At times their link-up play was very good, and again this should only get better with time and as their understanding develops. Even if you ignore the results so far this season, there hadn't been too much to be positive about in terms of our performances either. However, there were a lot of positive signs out there today and with a new centre-back on the way and with Bertrand, Clasie and Wanyama all to return, there are a number of reasons to be optimistic about the season ahead. Granted, it will take time and we may not reach the heights of last year, but we'll do just fine. -
They may well of done, but I certainly didn't. Morgan was a far better player at JWP's age and IMO, Harrison Reed is the better prospect - he has far more chance of making a move to a big team in the future.
-
JWP will never reach the same level as Schneiderlin.

Our media boys should post an update on Walcott & Ramsey...

Any streams...?

Will make a good long-term replacement for Rodriguez...

Expecting to lose Rodriguez, Clyne & Schneiderlin this summer, irrespective of where we finish in the league.

Who is the real Ronald Koeman? - Sky Sports Article

Unusual for so many people to name their source on here... -
So how many of you are really washing your hands of saints?

I find myself losing interest & not caring as much these days - not just with regards to Southampton, but football in general... With the new FFP rules in place, the big teams will continue to improve at the expense of the so-called smaller teams, while the gap between 'them' & 'us' looks set to widen even further. I'm no glory fan either - I've supported us all my life & have paid for a season ticket for the last 15 years+ - but the mass exodus this summer has made me wonder if striving to improve & achieve in the game is worth it, given that the top teams can tear your team apart by luring your top talent away at the first signs of success/promise. I'm as disillusioned as I'll ever be with the game & I wonder; is football really worth my time & money anymore? -
Bialkowski is a good 'keeper with lots of potential, but his nerves always used to get the better of him at Saints. Not sure if it's common knowledge, but he asked to be dropped for THAT playoff semi-final at Pride Park because he couldn't handle the pressure. For that reason alone, I don't think he'll ever make it back to the Premier League.
-
With Redmond, we'd be buying potential. Granted, he hasn't set the world alight at Norwich but in the right environment & under a coach like Koeman, he could well flourish & fulfil his potential. Also worth noting that bar Rodriguez, we don't have anyone in our squad like Redmond. He has pace, power, is very direct & spends most of the game hugging the touchline. He'd suit Koeman's style & wouldn't cost a fortune either. In more ways than one, this move makes sense & wouldn't be at all surprising - especially as we were interested in him last summer...

Try not to get hung up on those quotes. I'm sure Adam meant every word at the time. Perhaps he didn't anticipate on reaching the heights he has of late? Maybe he didn't think the opportunity to move to a team like Liverpool would ever present itself? Put it this way - I like my job & I'm happy to stay for the foreseeable, but if someone offers to double my money at a bigger & better company with more benefits, I'd be off. Tell me you wouldn't do the same...!? After the loyalty Adam has shown us in the past, I find it very hard to begrudge him this move.
-
Very much this. Lallana is a modern day great - he has remained loyal when it would have been very easy to move on. Disappointed? Absolutely. But do I blame him? Not one bit. Good luck, Adam.
-
Because that would of been a lie...
-
Agents often work in the background when negotiations are ongoing - common practice in modern day football. Said it was up to you what you do with the information - just passing it on. Appreciate the wording could have been better. Perhaps I should have said the clubs are close to agreeing a fee & Saints are just looking to get as much out of United as possible - understandable. However, very much a matter of when, not if.
-
Thought I'd share what I heard last night from a well-respected journo - up to you whether you believe it or not! Shaw to United is virtually done - everything has been agreed in principal between club & player, the only sticking point is the fee. To date, United have only made one bid of £27m, but we're holding out for more (£30m should do it). Player & both clubs are confident that a deal will be reached before long.
