  1. £50,000 seems very, very cheap. When does his contract expire? In our position, I would expect we'd be able to get a little bit more. Signing Gillett for such a nominal fee will be a great bit of business for Donny.
  2. Bit early at the minute! If we're back in the top-flight within 5 years, then it'd certainly be a book worth reading!
  3. Great result, especially considering Walsall had only been beaten once at home all season prior to yesterday. I listened to it on the radio and apart from the opening 20 minutes, we were comfortable winners. We could, and probably should have scored a few more with the game at 3-0, but a lack of concentration at the back meant we had to be professional and see the game out. It sounded as though Connolly was a real livewire once again; great to see him slotting straight back into the side after a few games out. Another goal for Lambert, undoubtedly our best signing in years! Lallana sounded as though he was causing the opposition all sorts of problems with his runs too! All in all, a fantastic performance and a great 3 points. With Tranmere next up and confidence sky high, who knows where we'll be placed in the league after the busy Christmas period. Onwards and upwards!
  4. Waigo is here until the end of the season anyway, so no need to take any action with him just yet. I'd like to see us sign the following: - Michail Antonio - Neal Trotman - Jacob Mellis - Zak Whitbread - Simeon Jackson We've still got quite a large squad, especially for a League One side, so I'd ship out: - Marek Saganowski - Simon Gillett - Anthony Pulis - Lee Molyneux - Tommy Forecast - Lee Holmes Whilst I like Holmes, he clearly isn't in Pardew's plans so maybe it would be in his best interests to look for a move elsewhere. I'd also look to extend the loan deals of the youngsters currently out gaining first-team experience away from St. Mary's. - Olly Lancashire (Grimsby) - Kayne McLaggon (Eastbourne Borough) - Michael Poke (Torquay) - Jake Thomson (Torquay)
  5. Prem clubs including Hull sniffing around, and he wouldn't drop to League One. Whitbread is a great shout though. I mentioned him in the summer and would still love to see him here. Jackson from Gillingham would offer us something different up top, but we need a player similar to Lambert as back-up.
  6. Make no mistake about it, there will be another big turnover of players at Saints in January and the summer. Pardew has got targets lined up, and a number of current players have been told that their future lies elsewhere. I've been told that we can expect up to 6 new signings in January, with a number of the players out on loan leaving permanently. One thing is for sure, it's going to be an interesting transfer window!
  7. You have to take the rough with the smooth with Papa. He will do feck all for 89 minutes, get caught offside countless times, and yet with 1 minute left on the clock, he'll produce a sublime bit of skill that'll win you the game. He's just one of those luxury players and he's very much an unknown quantity. He actually fits into the 4-5-1 system very well. His pace always causes opposing defenders problems, and he has got a decent delivery on him too. Not to mention the fact that he's a useful finisher! The main problem is getting him to perform consistently. Still, Pardew knows what he's doing and in time I'm sure we'll see the best of Papa Waigo!
  8. First-class from Schneiderlin tonight. Hate to say I told you so, but I've always said the kid has talent, he's just struggled to impose himself in a number of matches and that's understandable considering he's a young lad who has come from abroad. However, Pardew and his management team seem to have got the best out of him and long may it continue. The only concern is whether or not he can produce on a regular basis, but full credit to him for tonight's performance. He was head and shoulders above anyone else on the pitch and a worthy MOTM in my opinion.
  9. I'm convinced Lambert is still not 100% in terms of fitness. He doesn't appear to be as mobile and lively as he has done previously. Still, I'm not complaining! If he's scoring when he's lacking fitness, imagine what he'll do when he's at the top of his game . . .
  10. Not the best game of football, but we fully deserved the 3 points and great to see us keeping a clean sheet too! Make no mistake about it, Wycombe were poor and on another day we could scored three or four, but it wasn't to be. However, if you shut the opposition out then one goal is enough, and that's exactly what we did tonight. I'm absolutely delighted to see us climb out of the relegation zone for the first time this season too. Hopefully it's onwards and upwards for us now! Special mention to Morgan Schneiderlin who had his best game in a long while in my humble opinion. He was everywhere tonight, got stuck in and put himself about. I've often thought of Schneiderlin as a 'fair weather' player, but he played through the terrible conditions this evening and put in a MOTM performance, full credit to him.
  11. Big fan of Murty. It's great to have a 'proper' right-back playing for us. Credit to Lloyd James though, he filled in well and did a good job for the team.
  12. Would be a top-draw signing for us, especially in this division, although if there are CCC teams interested then the odds of him coming here are very slim. As someone has mentioned, if he does go to Preston, then there's more chance that Trotman will either extend his loan spell here or sign for us permanently.
  13. A solid and comfortable win, with the scoreline flattering Northampton. It's a bit of a concern that we're still leaking goals, but as Pards has said, it's 'job done' and now we wait to see who we get next! I thought Lallana, Wotton and Schneiderlin all had good games, with Lambert putting in a good shift as the lone striker. Perry and Bialkowski hardly inspire me with confidence, but neither have had much game time of late so they could just be a tad rusty. All in all, an entertaining game, a deserved win and a good day out.
  14. Should probably clarify with regards to question 1. By 'current player', I DO NOT mean a current Saints player. Admittedly, the wording is a bit mis-leading though! Apologies for that. However, the answer DOES have a link to Southampton FC.
  15. 1. Which current player played his first 3 Premier League games with 3 different clubs? AND 2. When was the last time Saints were NOT in the relegation zone? Bare in mind we spent almost all of last season in the bottom 3! The first question was one of 'Tyler's Teasers' on the Sky Sports website, so I would imagine a few of you have already seen the answer to that one, but the second one is a genuine question! Answers on a postcard please.
  16. Saw him at St. Mary's for the Norwich game, not sure what he's up to though. Maybe he's looking to sell up so he can move back to Sweden?
  17. If Adam wants to go, he will go, and for a hefty price too I'd imagine! We've never been in a position before where we can demand a big fee for one of our players, so I'd be interested to see how much the club value him at should a Premier League team come sniffing in January. Anyway, I'm under the impression that Lallana is very happy plying his trade at Saints, and it's clear for all to see that Pardew is getting the best out of him. He knows that, at this stage of his career, he's in the best possible place, and I don't worry about about him leaving during the next transfer window at all.
  18. Fair play to all those that made the long trip tonight. The journey home will seem a lot quicker safe in the knowledge that we're 3 points better off!
  19. No harm in taking a look at the guy. If he's up to it, I'm sure we can sort out some sort of loan deal to see if he can do anything here.
  20. With Boro on the verge of losing Adam Johnson, (rumoured to be heading to Sunderland in January) maybe Strachan was casting his eyes over the progress of Adam Lallana as a direct replacement. Admittedly they are slightly different players, but AL has proven that he can do a fantastic job on the left. Alternatively, WGS could have been attending a game which involved one of his former clubs, and considering he's not too far from Hartlepool, he wouldn't have had to go too far out of his way to get there.
  21. Losing Kelvin is a big, big blow. Hopefully Bialkowski steps up to the plate and takes his chance with both hands. He's clearly got ability; he was in our first-team the season we got to the play-offs, with a number of us fans venting our frustration when Burley opted to choose Davis ahead of him for the semi-final at Pride Park! I just hope BB can put in a number of consistent performances over the coming weeks, but only time will tell.
  22. Good result and from the sounds of it, a decent performance to match. Lallana really is impressing of late, seems as though he's enjoying his football these days! Still searching for that elusive clean sheet though, but hopefully that'll come in time. Onwards and upwards, COYR!
  23. Pardew is very well trained in terms of PR. He gives a very good interview and I've been impressed by what he's had to say from day one. Very different under his stewardship then some past managers anyway! Long may it continue!
  24. Have heard a few bits of interesting 'gossip' that I thought were worth sharing, so have a read and discuss! Alan Pardew has been looking into the possibility of replacing Marek Saganowski with Cardiff's Warren Feeney. MS is almost certain to leave when the window re-opens, be it on loan or permanently, and Feeney is becoming increasingly frustrated with a lack of first-team opportunities at Cardiff. Exeter are hoping to sign Saints' defender Olly Lancashire on a permanent deal. Grimsby remain keen, but the uncertainty surrounding their managerial position means a long-term transfer there is unlikely. Simon Gillett is almost certain to join Doncaster Rovers on a permanent basis after impressing Sean O'Driscoll during his loan stint in Yorkshire. And finally, Saints are working hard to extend Neal Trotman's loan deal until the end of the season, but Preston are proving to be difficult to deal with. As it stands, he is to return to Deepdale in January, but 'sources close to the club' are hopeful that a deal can be tied up. That's all folks! Read it, take it in, believe it, ignore it, do whatever you want with it, just don't shoot the messenger!
  25. Kelvin is still remaining as 'club captain' and so his responsibilties don't change dramatically. Hammond would be the leading candidate to become 'team captain' and it's a move that makes sense. It is tough for a keeper to command and direct orders from the back, and Hammond is always involved in the middle of the park. So long as Kelvin is OK with the decision, then I'm happy too. In Pards we trust!
