Burnley 0-2 Saints, Ings & Adams. 👍

Think I’ve mentioned this on here before but I once spotted Jaidi & Schneiderlin in Oceana after a home defeat. Naturally I thought it was a good idea to tell them what went wrong and how they need to improve. Suffice to say the ‘conversation’ didn’t last long and I was quickly ushered away. 😂

Saints CEO Martin Semmens interview - 26th July 2020
Bailey replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
Good, open and honest communication. Refreshing and welcome. 👍🏻 -
Not sure if it’s been mentioned before but it’s Carnival this weekend in Rotterdam, so the city will be a lot busier than usual. Lots of road closures and disruption to public transport, so allow extra time when planning your journey to the stadium!
-
After today’s result, this actually made me laugh. Fair play!
-
Hasenhüttl said post-Burnley that Yoshida is due back on Wednesday - unlikely he’ll go straight into the starting XI on this basis, though expect him to feature on the bench.
-
Now VVD has (almost) gone what's your honest opinion of him as a player?
Bailey replied to Bad Wolf's topic in The Saints
One of, if not the best defender in the league. Wouldn’t look out of place at Barca, Real or Bayern. Intrigued to see how things pan out for him at Liverpool. -
Forster; Cedric, VVD, Hoedt, Bertrand; Romeu, Lemina; Tadic, Davis, Gabbiadini; Long.
-
This is a fake account.
-
Sell for £70m and replace with 3/4 proven internationals that immediately improve the first XI. I'm all for our transfer policy and back the club completely, but if we replace VVD with prospects, we'd be playing a dangerous game. Jonathan Tah and William Carvalho would be top of my list, but unclear how realistic these targets would be. That said, as us fans know more than most, money talks...!
-
I'm pretty sure that Murray Groves account is a fake...
-
Not strictly contract related, but for those that care, I'm told Romeu has taken the no.6 shirt and Gabbiadini is no.9 now that Jay-Rod has moved on. Should be confirmed within a few weeks.
-
Would be a good deal for all involved, good luck to him. Jay needs a move and, more importantly, regular game time to see if he can get back to his form pre-injury. £14m would represent good business for Saints and pretty much pays for Jay's replacement too...

Basically, nobody really knows what's going on with this one...!
-
Club can't really win, here. He was the obvious choice for captain once Fonte left; if VVD was overlooked, everyone would say 'that's him off in the summer then'.

Nothing wrong with the team selection today, we were as dominant as we've been so far this season, we created the most chances to date and it was far and away the most complete performance under Puel's reign. While I'd prefer to see Austin leading the line ahead of Redmond (who should have bagged a brace), there's no way the former can play 2 games in 3 days - he visibly tired just 20 minutes after his introduction today! Austin wasn't 'dropped', Puel was simply utilising the squad. And to call Cedric garbage is just ridiculous... Nice summaries and pretty much how I saw it. Felt like there were a lot of positives to take from today and as both have mentioned, 3-0 wouldn't have flattered us. If we can get 3 points at West Ham on Sunday (not overly concerned about the EFL Cup), then things will start to look even better.

Assuming you meant to put this in the Arsenal post-match thread, no...?

I'd love to be proven wrong as he's young, English and a product of our Academy but for me, Prowsey isn't good enough. At present he's a good squad player at this level but nothing more. Aside from his set-pieces and his 'great work ethic', he doesn't offer enough. Too often he's a passenger in midfield and the team suffers as a result. Watch him closely the next time he plays and you'll see that he does a lot of running without ever getting close enough to his man to win the ball back. We're often overrun in midfield when he plays and for me, he doesn't have a big enough impact - when have you seen JWP take the game by the scruff of the neck? A perfect example was Watford on the opening day. Granted, no-one was particularly good in the first 45 but I recall Hojbjerg coming on and putting in a crunching tackle within 10 minutes of his introduction. He regained possession, carried the ball forward and looked to make things happen. I'm not necessarily saying that Prowsey should or will ever be as good as Hojbjerg, but they're similar ages and this is the level he needs to get to to become a regular, Premier League starter. There's a reason why JWP is one of the only Academy graduates still at the club and it's not just down to loyalty...
-
If/when it does happen, I wouldn't be surprised to see a number of Premier League fans turn to their local, lower league teams instead - assuming there's no significant knock-on effect there...
-
Enjoyed reading that and sums up how a lot of fans are feeling IMO.

'Eventually it catches up with you' - The season the pundits are right?
Bailey replied to Saint Benali's topic in The Saints
On paper, we still have a very good squad that is capable of a top 10 finish, even with the player sales (and assuming the Boufal transfer goes through). Issue at the moment is the system and that the players visibly aren't/haven't yet taken to it. VVD's post-match interview was very telling in that regard. Good players should be able to adapt, but I'm intrigued to see how long Puel insists on playing a diamond if results don't pick up - and fast. It's still early days, but right now I'm not sure if I've seen enough positives to make me think that it will come together in the near future. Prove me wrong, Saints! -
Leicester looking to nip in at the last minute...?
-
Very odd link indeed. A loan move may be beneficial for Saints, Newcastle and Targett, but cannot see us selling him any time soon. Doesn't strike me as the type of player to force a move either. Would be very surprised if this were true!

Not the best by any stretch, but we'll do well to find a better alternative who's happy to sit behind Fraser...
