A real shame. He had obviously impressed Adkins in training to put himself into the first-team fold. Such a bad time to suffer ANOTHER long-term injury. As others have said, it's more than likely that we'll release him at the end of his current contract, but I hope this isn't the end for Holmes. When he's fit, he has a lot to offer. Maybe he'll get a new deal at a League One/Two club on a pay-as-you-play basis?

A chance to 'welcome' back Ormerod, Euell and Crainey! Relatively pleased with the draw in truth. Blackpool will be favourites, and rightly so, but I think we can give them a good game. They'll come here and attack, which could play into our hands. A potential upset on the cards? Who knows, but it all makes for a great cup contest.

Got a sneaky feeling it'll be something like the following: Davis Butterfield Martin Seaborne Dickson Lallana Hammond Gobern Holmes Connolly Guly

Any idea when people are likely to hear the outcome for this? Emailed early part of last week and just waiting on a response now. Cheers in advance. -
Well, a win is a win, but it wasn't the most entertaining of matches to say the least! At least we're in the hat for the next round though. For me, Guly was poor. He strolls around way too casually for my liking, and he just wasn't at the races. Connolly did more with two touches than Guly did in 85 minutes! Other than that, there's not much else to comment on. Rather just put this one to bed, move on and look forward to Carlisle. Still a lot of work to be done before we're 'firing on all cylinders' so to speak!

When fit, he's the best natural finisher at the club without a shadow of a doubt. The frustrating thing is, he'll probably be back in the treatment room before too long.

Lallana, every time. Whilst Surman was a very good player for us, Lallana has bags more potential and will play at a higher level than AS for a longer period of time.

Good to see that we're using the blog that 'georgeweahscousin' writes for 'Shoot' magazine. The articles are always worth a read and it'll help to keep the main page on this site up-to-date.

In terms of ability, Chamberlain is more than ready to start. Physically, he's still got quite some way to go. You only have to read Adkins' post-match comments tonight to appreciate that we have to protect AOC during the early stages of his career. He's a fine talent, and one for the future, but lets not over-do it.

Guly for me. No need to change a winning team. If, for whatever reason, it's not working at Huddersfield with Guly and Lambert, then Barnard is a fantastic option to have on the bench.
-
If anyone at the club is monitoring this, is it possible to put the new team photo up under the 'Team Profiles' section on the OS?

Back to his old self today, much improved. Lets hope he keeps it up!

Great performance. The best we've played this season, no question. Do Prado looked a class act. Maybe he's finally starting to find his feet? My MOTM today. Lallana was impressive as ever, great to see him nearing full fitness. Lambert looked a lot better today too. His body language was much improved and he seemed up for it. Tidy header to boot. Chaplow provided an attacking option in midfield, making some clever forward runs. A thoroughly enjoyable game, my favourite of the season. Was a real pleasure to watch and the only surprise was that we didn't score more! Roll on Huddersfield.

Deppo, I don't know whether you're being serious or just winding everyone up with all this 'new manager' talk, but either way, its made the last few days on here brilliant!

For some reason, I just have a feeling that we'll end up with Zola. He wouldn't be the worst appointment, but is he any better than Pardew? Having said that, we could certainly do a lot worse.
-
Leon Crouch was in there today. No idea if it's his though? Also saw Claus in a box just a few along from the Ted Bates one.

Have to admit, I'm slightly nervous about this one. Given the current circumstances, I can see us losing this unfortunately. In terms of the starting XI, I'd go with the following: --------------------- Davis -------------------- Butterfield ----- Martin ----- Fonte ----- Harding Puncheon --- Hammond --- Schneiderlin --- Dickson ------------- Lambert ---- Connolly -------------- Subs: Bialkowski, Jaidi, Mills, Wotton, Chamberlain, Guly, Garrod.
-
You clearly haven't watched S****horpe under Adkins then. To be fair, they play very good, attractive football. However, I would like to think we could aim higher than Adkins. If he were to get the job, I'd feel slightly underwhelmed. Is he better than Pardew? I think not.
-
If, and it's a big if, this is true, then it becomes a lot more understandable why Pardew was given the boot. Still, I doubt we'll ever really know the whole truth about this.
-
Able to shed any more on this? It's a pretty big accusation. There are so many rumours flying around at the minute, but in reality we'll never know the full reasons behind the decision.
-
I'd love to see Cortese come out and tell us his reasons for sacking Pardew, because at the minute I can't work out why he has decided to do it. There may be some very good reasons behind the move, and if that's the case, then I'm sure the majority of fans would understand the decision and come to accept it a lot easier if they knew. But the fans can only judge the decision based on what we know. So what DO we know exactly? In truth, very little, but we're all aware of the work Pardew has done, and how he has built a squad which should be more than capable of getting out of this division IMO. We know that Pardew provided us with our most enjoyable and successful season in a long while, and I don't think anyone can deny that we've been playing decent football of late and that the future has looked very bright. Now, with all that in mind, sacking AP 3 games into the season seems baffling. An explanation of sorts from Cortese would go a long way to reassuring the fans and it'd stick to the 'transparency' policy with the fans that was promised soon after Markus Liebherr completed his takeover.

Lambert and Lita. Now THAT would be one hell of a strike force in The Championship, let alone League One! Still, I can't see it happening either and in reality, Lita is too similar to Barnard and Connolly, albeit the former having a lot more pace than what we currently have! IF we do sign another striker, it'll be someone more in the mould of Lambert. A powerful, physical striker who is good in the air. Alan Lee, who has just joined Huddersfield, would have been ideal. Radio Solent seemed to be suggesting that if we get another player through the door before Saturday, then it'll be a wide player, which is another area we need to improve. If Lallana and/or Puncheon get injured, we're desperately short of cover. I'd like to see Antonio back, and although I don't believe he is the God that others have made him out to be on here, he would certainly provide us with something different. Pace, power, direct running, unpredictability. It's what we need. On that note, I wouldn't be surprised to see Matt Phillips sign from Wycombe. It's been well publicised that our scouts have been watching him, and he's not too disimilar to Antonio. He has raw potential and in the right environment, he could excel. Lets wait and see what happens, but I have faith in Pardew, Cortese and all those at the club to bring in some players that will considerably improve our squad.

Markus' family sat in box 20 today. During the minutes applause, they looked very emotional, with Markus' wife fighting back the tears. I do hope they saw today as a fitting tribute to our saviour, may he rest in peace. During the game, the family were getting animated and seemed to be enjoying the spectacle as much as they possibly could given the circumstances. I also noticed the appreciative grin that appeared on their faces when they realised the Northam were signing 'One Markus Liebherr'. A nice touch. Would love to see them return to St. Mary's throughout the season, and hopefully we can do them and Markus proud by winning promotion.

Definitely a player in box 20 today. I think it is Guilherme Do Prado, judging by the pictures on here. If not, it was someone who looked VERY similar! Don't know anything about him so hard to comment on his ability. On a side note, should also mention that Liebherr's family were in box 22 today. They looked very emotional during the minutes applause and they were all very animated throughout! I hope they saw today as a fitting tribute to Markus, it's just a shame we couldn't get the win for him too.
