We are also not privvy to the payment structures of our player sales. Lavia, for example, has signed a 7 year contract at Chelsea, this could mean we get the initial £53m over 7 years, I hope not but I think that is how some of these deals work, especially to get around FFP rules. Hardly means we have a war chest. Yes it's also relative and we'll be doing similar structures but we don't want to be putting players on long contracts that we don't know will be able to perform in the Prem. We won't see us spending much over the next week compared to the inlay but I'd be surprised if we don't spend £15m - £20m combined on 2 to 3 players.

Really pleased for Jack coming back in to the team and stepping up. I was worried when he took the captains armband though that it would mean he would be a mainstay. I've never really rated him and seemed to always have a mistake in him. It'll be interesting how our defense performs without him in for a while.

I'll be surprised if Downes starts, Martin said he needs to build up again after his illness, or something to that affect.

I'm all for the signing of a couple of extra experienced defenders. The way we play produces excellent chances going forward so I have no worries on that department, even with Tella and Che off as we will have enough. Our problem is looking well shaky when we lose the ball and are hit on the counter, with our high possession stats we are still conceding sloppy goals. Let's hope Holgate and Woods can help shore that issue up.

The bed wetting on this forum at half time was classic Saints web. 😆 we still had another half to play and for people saying we're heading for midtable mediocrity all season. Wasn't pretty for most of the game but got the job done against a tough team that rarely lose at home. Solid performances from Charles, AA and Manning.

I watched that this morning, already dropped. A great watch, he's clearly level headed and intelligent. Doesn't want to take the big bucks from the Saudis, he has had offers. Treated shabbily by Capello when he was in his prime. If he gets his coaching badges then I'd like to see him at some capacity at Saints.

Brighton seem to be in the same boat as us a few years ago. Have decent seasons where we come top 6 with good players then they all leave for for bigger clubs. I give Brighton another season before they are in a relegation scrap.
