Saints 1 Hapoel Be'er Sheva 1 - Match & Meltdown Thread
saintpat replied to St Chalet's topic in The Saints
What, more embarrassing than the neanderthals fighting each other at the end? Or the bloke f'ing & blinding & complaining from pretty much the 1st minute until someone had a word! Don't get me wrong, that was a very difficult performance & result to take but grow up guys. -
Because it's Sunderland in the cup, they are so desperate for league points that they won't care about this. We can use a midfielder for the wing back role without having an effect on the defence.
-
McQueen looked out on his feet by the end of the game, he needs a rest or he could easily pick up an injury & that's the last thing we need with two other left backs struggling already. I wonder whether he may change to a back 3, given the lack of options.
-
And I wondered why I rarely came on this site anymore, I've remembered now I've read this thread!! What's more I'm sure I'll end up next to one of the whinging aresholes tonight as well! Who will go just so they can complain throughout the game. This is a chance to celebrate a loyal servant to the club, to say thank you to him & to a set of players & manager who gave their heart & soul to our club, who made me as proud as I have ever been of my club. Yes, perhaps they weren't all the most gifted bunch of footballers I've seen in a Saints shirt, but they worked as hard for us as any players I've seen. As a group they were a 'team', just remembering the outpouring of emotions from these players when we got promotion to the Premier League is enough to make my heart pump hard with pride for my team. Today I'm given the opportunity to say thank you to Kelvin & a set of players who helped make the club get to the level we're at today. Yet there are people on here who moan about pricing, quality & anything else they can think of! I'm proud of my team but not these pathetic losers who bring shame to my club.

Was ia classy performance? No. Did we play good, exciting, attractive football? No. Did we play a gritty, team performance, full of heart, passion & commitment? Hell yes! These last two games shows that the team are finally together as a group and will in to do whatever is necessary to get the win. Clasie was excellent but it was 'team' that won this game.

I don't really believe we can finish top 4 but then again I wouldn't have believed that we'd be 2nd in the table after 10 games at the start of the season. That prediction would have seemed just as fanciful as us finishing top 4 does now. I'm just enjoying the ride and making the most of it. I look at the league table at least twice a day!! What I find highly amusing is that most of those people who took the **** out of me before the season started because of selling players are now telling me how they hope we keep this run up and break up the domination of the top 4/5.

Anyone else think we could be on the verge of something special?
saintpat replied to washsaint's topic in The Saints
Phil Brown obviously thinks Saints could be on the verge of something special! Listened to talk sport earlier and he was very complimentary about how the club was run and suggested we could have a season similar to our runners up spot in 83/84!! -
Wow! What an evening, what a performance! That was real team play. Loved the fact Pelle ran back to challenge Wiltshire in the 92nd minute, OK he got booked but that type of commitment is superb.Fonte has spped another gear since grabbing the captains armband. Gardos was calmness himself. Targett was assured, Clyne was excellent. Schneiderlin was majestic. Tadic is high quality. I think Jay may really enjoy playing with Pelle, some of his link up play is first class. Mane looked like he could be good. Koeman deserves much praise for swapping wings for him. Looked far more dangerous on the left. Amazingly I didn't feel worried in that last 10 minutes, we were so composed I couldn't see Arsenal scoring. I could write loads more but it's late and I'm tired, although still bouncing about the performance and result. Oh and great effort from the fans!
-
Great result, looking forward to more comments from people who were there. It does seem that we might be lasting better in games, a little less helter skelter pressing has meant it looks like we don't tire in the last 15 like we did on occasions last year.

Due to where I live and working Saturdays I get to very few games now. After the 1st 45 minutes I was starting to wonder if I was actually watching Saints, it was quite dreadful. Cork made a huge difference but the formation made us play properly. Long was far better and looked more comfortable. The midfield actually played in the middle of the field! 1st half Wanyama was guite often isolated with the ball at his feet, the only players near him were Fonte and Yoshida, he had no outlet forwards or sideways. Tadic is clearly a massive find and I believe will prove more effective than Lallana. Pelle worked so hard and fully deserved the goal and the fans deserve great credit as without the support he received he could quite easily have let his head drop. Home fans take a massive note, getting on at players doesn't make them achieve more, supporting them does! Thought Targett looked quite assured defensively. Clyne looked rather reluctant to push on down the wing which was a little disappointing. Even with Gardos, we need another central defender desperately. As for another winger, I really wish we had a manager with belief in Gaston, he is a class player with some belief and playing time he is capable of being a star player in the team. Long looked far more comfortable in his role 2nd half and was far more effective, which makes me think we need another striker to offer competition to Pelle. Finally, I somehow always manage to have 2 people around me who complain the whole game and whinge about almost every player, I have no idea why they go to games. The 2 on Tuesday had no idea about football or tactics and clearly only go to make themselves miserable. I wish people like them would go forth and multiply in Portsmouth!
-
Blimey there's no pleasing people is there! Board cave in and they get stick, board try and be strong and they get stick! I feel rather sorry for Morgan and I think he'll probably regret that tweet tomorrow morning once some of his anger and frustration has subsided. Morgan, like Rickie doesn't owe us anything more, he's been outstanding for us and if a CL club came in for him with the right money he'd deserve his transfer. However if its Spurs they can f***off and he can stay. I'm amazed he'd want to go there, there is no chance they'll break into the top 4 and he should want to play CL football. Morgan is our best player and I will be devastated when he goes but if its Arsenal I won't be angry, if its Spurs I'll be very angry!! Of course in an ideal world he'll apologise in the morning and have a storming season with us.

Just trying to find a positive on a very negative day!!!
-
Thank god we've got Koeman! How could Saints have only finished 8th last season when we had so many exceptional players that the top 4 want to sign. I now see last season as a massive disappointment given our 1st class talent. We clearly should have been top 4. Spurs have clearly bought themselves a donkey of a coach!
-
This is exactly how I feel. Yes we have some quality midfield players but he is an outstanding talent. He would walk into almost every team and within weeks secure his place as an automatic starter. If we lose him, so be it but he is irreplaceable. And IMO is worth more than any of last year's team. Given Luke and Lallana have gone for their amounts, I believe he is worth way over 30m.
-
Whilst I was annoyed that we have lost the 3 so far, I have always felt that it was posible, and we could get good replacements for them. However, I think the board should move heaven and earth to keep Schneiderlin. He is in my opinion an outstanding talent and is under-rated by nearly everyone, we will miss him more than any other player in the squad.
-
Selling Lallana for this money is decent business. He's been really good for us but he wants to move. I believe he's making a massive mistake, he's going to be bench warming and will lose his place in the England squad within 12 months. Don't get me wrong, he's a good player but he won't be mollycoddled at Liverpool like at Saints. He's going to find it far tougher than Luke or Rickie. It's a shame but he clearly feels he's better than us, time for all of us to move on. It simply proves there is no loyalty in football anymore, but we knew that already and in truth if you were going to be paid twice what you were already earning, how loyal would you be?
-
I don't log on very often now, I can't bear all the ******** when we lose or the adulation when we win BUT............ Today we were simply superb!!!!!!!

Chanting for Nigel is not a protest. It is the only way the fans can publicly thank one of the best managers we have ever had. It would be a travesty if Saints fans did not sing for Nigel at points, before, during and after the game. It won't negatively affect the players, they will expect it and most would probably be disappointed if we didn't and would probably like to join in. Without doubt, the fans(and the players) need to move on from the latest shenanigans but tomorrow we need to show our support for Nigel- as well as the team. The team will want to win for the fans and the team but they will also want to win for Nigel tomorrow. After tomorrows game we need to move on, the players and the new manager will need all the help they can get. The game I am looking forward to most(whenever it may happen) is when Nigel returns as opposition manager, then Saints fans can give him the reception he fully deserves.
-
Can we change from 'protest' to 'outpouring of emotion, thanking one of the best managers this club has ever had'.
-
Singing 'Only 1 Nigel Adkins' and 'Nigel Adkins red and white army' through the game shouldn't have an adverse effect on the team. I think they will expect it and some(all) will welcome it. You can be sure they will be working even harder than normal to win the game for Nigel- 3 points will be a massive send off for Nigel. the best that the players can do for him. Singing for Nigel for this game will not have a negative effect. Booing/Jeering will not help. After this game we need to get on with it, however much we wanted Nigel to stay, however much it is the wrong decision, the players and new manager need our support. But for Monday, a carnival atmosphere, giving support to our very wronged manager is more than acceptable and the players will be expecting it.

He's not awful but I thought he looked out of his depth at times even last season and he looks quite panicky this season, that sliced clearance when he had plenty of time a clear example. He's not on the scrapheap by any means but he is struggling at the moment. There was no sentimentality shown by the management with regards to Hammond or Sharpe, we can't afford to show any to Fonte. I wonder if a fit Jack Cork would be getting the nod over him!
-
The referee bottled it. It was a clear yellow card as soon as he blew for the foul. Yes we should have converted our chances, yes Fonte shouldn't have committed such a ridiculous foul in that position. If the referee had made the correct decision and sent him off and we had still lost, then you can make complaints about the team performance, however the referee has to take responsibility for a truly shocking decision, a correct decision would have changed the dynamics of the game, the wrong decision also changed the dynamics of the game, anyone who thinks otherwise is deluded. Saints players felt cheated by the ref and without doubt it affected them(you could argue it shouldn't- but they are normal human beings- it will affect them). The referee can have no excuse for not sending him off- he needs to be reprimanded and suspended for a few games. Everyone knows it would have been a yellow card if he hadn't already got one. Saints players also need to hold their heads in shame- I CANNOT BEAR, players trying to get another player sent off- it was an awful display from our players. I never want to see Saints players act in that way again. Yes he should have been sent off but our players were disgraceful. It's still in our hands, we need to forget about this now and move on. The team have been very good at bouncing back after a bad result, I have no doubt they can do it again next Saturday. In the meantime, I'm going back to the voodoo doll and sticking a few more pins in before finding the lighter!
-
Possibly just the tip of a fairly large iceberg! And if Redcrapp was ever England manager I could not support them. Childish- yes perhaps, but my depth of feeling is such for that scumbag, that I would hope England lost every game. Of course there are too many skeletons in the cupboard for him to ever be made England manager.
-
Not seem many classier headers of the ball!! Yes, not pure power, just pure precision! Well, lately at least!
