  3. Game is now a 10.30am Kick-Off on Monday morning. See you all there at 10 in Saints colours. Ole!
  4. We have a Southampton match on Copacabana beach planned for 10am Tuesday morning (Posto 4). The more Saints fans the merrier, so please spread the word to anyone you know in and around Rio. Veho will have their Brazilian Rep there and we're working on getting the great Guly Do Prado down. Cheers! Event info: Charles Miller Day in Rio!
  5. What would be worth more? The club with its current stars OR the sale of 5-6 players and a (most likely) subsequent relegation. Surely it's the former?
  6. I'm heading to Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay for 3 months and will be spreading the Southampton message along the way. Have 11 to take at the moment, but on the lookout for more. Fly out from Melbourne on the 7th of June to Rio. Not sure they would arrive in time though..
  7. Might be worth posting this on Facebook.com/SaintsFCCanada Over 500 on there and plenty that have been through what you're planning. I'm sure they'd be happy to help!
  8. Doesn't it indicate that our results dropped away so sharply because we didn't have the depth in defence? Meaning that if similar quality was available in reserve (entirely possible) the total would've more than likely been much higher. It's a hypothetical, but surely holds some weight.
  9. Anyone brave enough to do the stats for games where at least 2 of those 5 weren't playing?
  10. A: We briefly mentioned. We're not living in fantasy land and hoping that those 5 play all 38 games this season, no hope. Just that we need reasonable back up in a few positions. That wouldn't cost the world. It certainly would cost less than losing our stars, our team spirit and getting relegated..We're an optimistic bunch down under. B: That was factored in. Although Jay Rod's injury and Osvaldo being a c**t doesn't help things. 4 of those 8 wins were 1-0. Good enough for me. C: The idea here. Rather than sell the farm, keep them together and aim for the stars. They're all under contract as far as I'm aware.
  11. SOUTHAMPTON CAN'T FINISH IN THE TOP 4! Often heard around various watering holes. We're here to throw some sexy stats at those folk: Our record with our strongest back 5 this season (Boruc, Clyne, Fonte, Lovren and Shaw) was: P15 W8 D5 L2. That equates to a top 4 finish in 13 of the last 15 Premier League seasons. Top 3 finish in 5 of the last 15 and 2nd in 3 of the last 15. Our home record with those five is even more impressive: P7 W5 D2 L0 Scored 14 Conceded 4. We were also #1 for possession in the Premier League this season. #2 in the table including only England goals and #18 worldwide for World Cup reps in Brazil. From all of the above, we'd say that the European dream isn't impossible. It's entirely possible. Some quality depth to cover for injury and we're right in the mix. So f**k the rumours and keep that half-full glass close by. The Saints are coming.
  12. Thought now that the season has finished, it would be fine to have this on the main board. It will be useful for connecting Saints fans over in Brazil and helping to share tips on what to see/do/avoid etc. It would be great for Southampton fans to be out in big number to watch Adam/Rickie/Luke/Dejan/Maya/Gaston and maybe Morgan in action. It's also 120 years since Charles Miller arrived from Southampton to São Paulo, another thing for Saints fans to be proud of. Also opens up the chance of a mega sized kick-around in Rio during the second half of the tournament, so if you're going - pack your Saints kit/s. Personally I'll be following Australia around for the first 3 matches, including a stay at a footballing academy in Cuiaba. Thanks to the generosity of Saints fans in Oz and the U.K I have 15 Saints tops to take with me and present to the locals along the way. I'll be documenting all my efforts on various social networks. Just make sure to follow the #GlobalSFC hashtag If you're not a social media head, not to worry - all the #GlobalSFC posts/content is automatically collaborated here: #GlobalSFC Have also set up a group on Facebook specifically for Southampton fans heading to Brazil to help us stay connected and organise events. It can be found here - SOUTHAMPTON in BRAZIL
  13. Just set up the following group for Saints fans heading to the World Cup. Spread the word SOUTHAMPTON in BRAZIL
  14. Might be an idea to post this on the main board once the United game is finished? Being the 120th anniversary of Charlie Miller bringing football to Brazil, it would be great for a group of Saints fans to meet up at one point. I arrive on the 7th of June with 3 others, 2 of which are mad Saints fans. I know of at least 5 others from our Aussie Saints group that will also be over there.
  15. Was mainly looking at it just for next season. So no need for a completely separate XI just yet. It's more about lessening the drop off in quality (Fox/Hooiveld/GDP) when we do have a couple of injuries throughout the season. Obviously to finish Top 6 we require a good run with injuries, plus the 3 or 4 additions to the squad. It's not as impossible as most are predicting.
  16. Our THAI Saints have entered into the same discussion. Their version may make more sense... ฤดูกาลหน้า คิดว่าทีมเราควรเสริมนักเตะตำแหน่งไหนกันบ้างครับ Goalkeeper : Boruc + 1 new player Right Back : Chambers, Clyne Center Back : Lovren, Fonte, Yoshida + 1 new player Left Back : Shaw, Targett Defensive Midfielder : Wanyama, Cork, Schneiderlin Midfielder : Lallana, Ward-Prowse, Ramirez, Reed, Davis + 1 new player Striker : Lambert, Rodriguez, Gallagher + 1 new player
  17. After hearing almost every football 'expert' blindly following the leader, down a uniform line of 'Saints will have to sell up to bigger clubs' and assume their place in mid-table mediocrity, we thought it would be a good way to came at our situation from the other side. Yes, most of the other clubs above us have more revenue to invest, but, do they have our young talent? The strong team bond? And, more importantly, are we really that far off having a Top 6 Premiership squad? This is copied from a recent post on our Aussie Saints page. With one match remaining, albeit against a mid-table side, we thought it would be worth looking at the possibilities for next season. We've been on an incredible upward trajectory in the last 5 years. From bottom of the third division, to picking up our record points tally in the Premier League. We're one of the more optimistic sporting pages you'll find - so we're asking your help to plot a blueprint for a Top 6 finish next season..with a cup final thrown in. On our day, when fully fit, we look the match of any side in the PL, but at times our depth has been found out, so we think part of this chase for improvement is getting a squad of 22 Premier League quality players.. GK: Boruc + ??? LB: Shaw + ? (Targett) CB: Lovren/Fonte + Yoshida/? - STRONG RB: Clyne/Chambers - PERFECT MID: Morgan/Cork/Lallana/Davis + JWP/Wanyama/Ramirez/Reed - EXCELLENT FWD: Lambert/JayRod(Inj) + ??/ (Gallagher ?) From the above, it looks like we're only a Goalkeeper a Central Defender and 1 or 2 strikers short of having a VERY strong Premier League squad. Any ideas on who could fill these spots?
  18. Congrats mate! Hopefully it's the first of many Saints victories and more importantly a happy life! Would you be happy for me to add these pictures to the Global Saints page? https://www.facebook.com/GlobalSaintsFC and #GlobalSFC on Twitter? Completely up to you, but I reckon Saints fans around the world would love to see these guys!
  19. Basically covering all games that you didn't attended, but still managed to celebrate a Saints goal like a lunatic. Rickie's equalizer on Saturday was certainly well received at Melbourne's #1 football pub, The Imperial Hotel. As a side, we had 25-30 fans in attendance, while poor ol City only had 6. Here's the video of our SRL celebrations! Anyway, there's nothing like being there, but this is about those moments that you weren't there for. Perhaps you were on holiday, caught at work, or watching a match from the comfort of your home. Over to you lot..
  20. Great to read. Have three days in Istanbul on route to Southampton from South America.
  21. Anyone fancy putting together a video of SRL's 34/34 penalties for the club? Might help in the push to get Rickie off to Rio if Roy's still undecided.. Either way, I'd love to watch them all again. Over to you SaintsWeb..
  22. From one of our Swedish Saints who was at the West Brom match with his daughter. Hope it helps. Feel free to head to Global Saints with any other questions or to add photos from the day. "The plan was to get to the stadium early to meet the players when the arrived around 11o clock. We got to the stadium around 10.45 and a really nice employe from the showed showed us where to go. First us was MP and he stopped and signed our Swedish flag - a few fans where there already and he took the time to sign autographs and taking pics with all people waiting. After that the players starting to arrive in their nice cars. We stood there with about 30 other fans in the sunshine and I must say how impressed I was with the players. They glad took their time signing stuff and signing pictures and chatting with the fans outside. So after about 45mins they all gone in and Linn got her match jersey signed with the all players autographs and also our Swedish flag was signed with the players + MP´s signature. I must again give big credit to the players doing this and really taking their time to show the fans they care about them."
  23. I think the above is what we need to focus on promoting. There's some pretty scary figures out there for a current mid-range team to look at. Manchester United, for example, have more Facebook fans in Bangladesh than we have in the entire world. Competing with Liverpool, Man United, Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea on a global scale isn't realistic for at least a decade and to a lesser extent even Tottenham and Everton as well. In the short to medium term we need to aim at being the next best as far as global reach and support is concerned. Pushing our key selling points, as quoted above, is important to differentiate us from the rest of the pack. In short - a team that plays watchable football and promotes their own talent. Our proximity to London will also help with people making that step from overseas follower to supporter. I took over our Aussie Saints page early last year and set about connecting as many Southampton fans in Australia as possible. We've gone from 250 to 2,000 in that time period and often have heavily attended events around Oz, despite the 2am kick-offs. The flow on effect from this is that our fans are now converting their friends to the 'Southampton Way'. Either through bringing them to our events or repeatedly sharing our online content. Have managed to do similar, always in partnership with a Southampton supporting local/s, for our groups in other countries. The more we can get the Southampton word out there, the more likely we can reach that 'best of the rest' position. Out of sight, out of mind is very true when it comes to support of the Premier League overseas. The PL is incredibly popular, as you all know. Every Saints fans I speak to from all around the world mentions just that. Unfortunately in the same breath, they mention that almost everyone supports the 'Big 4' Anyway, for those that might be interested, perhaps even Mr. Krueger, here are some of our international groups already in place: THAILAND 4,800 KENYA 8,000 AUSTRALIA 2,000 ARGENTINA 1,300 POLAND 1,800 INDONESIA 1,800 BRASIL 1,100 AND for the North American flavour CANADA USA Have also recently opened a page that displays our best fan content from around the world GlobalSaintsFC which includes a list of Southampton friendly venues over the world. Trying to fight back against the big boys, little by little. COYR
  24. Hi LainPain, I helped a couple of local guys set up the 'SaintsFCHK' page and organise their first couple of events. They appear to be held monthly these days, although their pub will definitely have the match on tomorrow. I'm assuming there'll be at least a handful of Saints there for it. Details of the pub and other Southampton friendly venues around the world can be found here at Global SaintsFC
  25. I'm sure these guys will be able to help: LONDON SAINTS FACEBOOK:'London Saints' TWITTER: @londonsaints WEBSITE: londonsaints.com Completely agree that it's much better watching games with other Saints fans. We often get 20-30 turn up in the early hours of Sunday morning in Melbourne and it really is like a mini St Mary's at times.
